*** Official 2022 PGA Tour Thread - Memorial Tournament, LIV list leaked- It's all Paulina's Fault **** (3 Viewers)

He seems to have a knack of making runs on Sundays when he has no chance
He strikes the ball at a different level all around than everyone else…leading in driving and GIR this week…he just can’t keep his short game together, especially in early rounds.

When did they open the floodgates on commercials?  They have gone from this wonderfully peaceful, barely interrupted, often riveting telecast.....to a very annoying amount.

They are even ruining Barkley for me, who I love, with the Wendy's Reggie Willams March Madness Avalanche strategy.

It does feel pretty ramped up.  feel like in some years there wasn't even any for the entire back 9.

Remember, some AT&T dork would get his mug on TV and talk about how they are picking up the tab for us so that we can enjoy the telecast uninterrupted?  That's long gone.

I guess even Augusta does have a price.

You know why the Masters is the best tournament.....you don't hear any mash potatoes

Had Smith to win, and Smith and JT to finish top 5. Was feeling pretty good a couple hours ago.

My favorite part of the Masters this year was CBS' decision to put the crowd noise and music volume at 111 while putting the announcer volume at about 2

If Rafa can get healthy and do his thing at the French, today will have gone from great to AMAZING.

100%.  Trying to remember the last time my wife was that happy/proud of me...I'll have to get back to you on that.
lol ...I was thinking the same thing when she appeared on the screen.  Except I can say with certainty that I've never experienced that kind of support or pride.  :kicksrock:

Fun fact - this was Schefflers 11th? tournament with his new caddie...... Bubbas old caddie
I'd never heard he was as prolific a winner as he was in Juniors...some window he won 66% of tourneys played, noted yesterday.  Not a massive college career, post Speith and the Nat'l Champ at Texas. He's always been a success but didn't see the dominance coming...but man he's got it all as a player, outside of the flying feet.

Schefflers on quite a run.

Got me thinking during the Masters: what will it take to get the excitement/energy back in golf that was there during Tigers prime years? Will we not see that again? Maybe if Charlie turns out to have a similar game as his dad, but that would be like 10 years.

There are so many great young plays but the buzz just isn’t there with any of these guys long term. DeChambeau did for a bit last year, but he’s not very likable. DJ had his run, JT as well but no one is close to the Tiger years.

Schefflers been so hot. I would love to see him get another major this year along with some other tournament wins. Maybe that would ignite some energy?

The only thing I could see that would bring the energy back is someone with a chance at the Grand Slam and that is nearly impossible it seems.

I watch more golf now than I ever did when Tiger dominated.  The young talent in the field right now is incredible. So many absolute studs under the age of 30.  Who did Tiger have to battle against?  Phil and?  The marque names in the 90s were aging out and not too many of them took great care of their bodies the way they do today.  I don't want to take anything away from Tiger, he's one of if not the greatest golfer we've ever seen.  But the landscape is vastly different today.

But you're right, sports fans love a dynasty or a great champion and so do the TV networks. I don't think we ever see another Tiger but from where I sit, the sport of golf is at its zenith.  Ironically enough, it's probably because of Tiger that we have so many young guns in the sport.

Tiger was sort of the cause of and solution to all of the problems at the same time.  Tiger created a lot of the young talent today, but now you get someone like Spieth who catches fire and UA pays him 19M a year to miss 5 footers and wear a white belt and fade to oblivion.  The amount of money these guys make now to not win, is as much as tour guys in the 90s would make in an entire career.

Imagine someone like Freddy Couples today. Dude would own the planet with his appeal.

Golf's great but Americans go bonkers for heroes for whatever reason and there ain't gonna be one.  The treasure chest is massive, and the international pool of talent unlike any other time.  It's nuts and the margin for error too miniscule to separate the very best, like tennis, for example.

Add to that what it takes between the ears to maintain and sustain any sort of dominance?  No way.  Guys in their 20's are no longer afraid of Fuzzy ####### Zoeller or whatever 30-40 something getting in their head.  They're dead on.  And if they aren't one week, there's a line of them that will light it up instead.

No reason you can't enjoy it for what it is now, why not?  For me it's only the majors, but that's plenty.  I would rather have 4 big golf weekends over 162 3 1/2 hour snoozefests.  Ball, strike, foul, ball, strike, 11 fouls, ground out to 2nd.  Pitching change.

And the NBA exhibition league?  Neat.

Oh and REPLAY on top of all that.  Thank god there's no replay in golf, save for the occasional psycho golf rules nerd who tweets about a blade of grass he saw move.

I get what you're saying about "only the majors" and I'm sure you're not alone.  But this sport RARELY has a Sunday finish as anti-climactic as Sunday's (and that one was still exciting 'cause it's The Masters).  Most Sundays come down to the final hole.  There was a run last year where even the tourneys with very few marquee names were the best thing on tv each and every weekend.  No sport has delivered entertainment as consistently as golf since it came back from the covid pause in my opinion.
