*** Official 2022 PGA Tour Thread - Memorial Tournament, LIV list leaked- It's all Paulina's Fault **** (2 Viewers)

What happened with a Marshall?
Wasn’t paying attention and Lowry hit him with a ball. Killed his distance, but probably saved him from ending up in a bush. Lowry was upset, but it was probably a good break for him.

Damn, driver on a par 3? What a miserable last couple days.

Lol. The expression on browns face after tossing his ball as a souvenir into the stands.

First modern golfer I’ve seen smoking 🚬 on course during a round

I like him

Not to be whiney woke dude but flicking the cigarette butts out on the course all day and littering is pretty crappy, though. Plus the dude basically has his own personal butler following him around. Can't even ask that guy to toss them in the trash for him?

💯

The few people I know who are still smokers have been properly shamed & trained - throw it in the trash, your pocket, or grind out the tobacco & take the filter with you until you’re near a receptacle. IDK anyone who litters on the course - cigarettes, food wrappers, anything.

We’re trying to live in a society here.

Don't get too attached.

Almost every major has a journeyman contending. Usually fade hard on the weekend and/or are never heard from again. Still a great story when a guy who has never accomplished much puts himself in that position.

One of my fondest Open Championship memories growing up was watching Mr Lu from Chinese Taipei finishing runner-up by 1 stroke to Lee Trevino in 1971. Never contended in a major again, never won anything significant outside of Asia. Was still the best story of the week by a good margin.

I'm always in awe of people that can remember stuff like that. I couldn't even tell you who won a major a year from now let alone some nobody that made a run.

Used to watch a lot of old highlight films on The Golf Channel when it first came out. We always watched the four majors in my house, my brother was a scratch golfer and mom played from the men's tees. But memory is a funny thing. It's questionable if I actually have fond memories of what was then called The British Open. Limited coverage in the States back then....more likely I have watched the 16mm film enough times that it's become a fond memory lol.

History of the British Open on U.S. tv

This was the coverage during my childhood:

1968 - Chris Schenkel worked alongside Nelson for the telecast which covered the final 4 holes.*

1969 - ABC increased to 3 hours of live coverage. This was the first time the Open was televised in color in the US.

1970 - After 4 consecutive years of live telecasts, ABC regressed to late afternoon tape delay coverage of the Saturday final round and would continue this throughout the 1970s. ABC also reduced its coverage to 1.5 hours. Dave Marr joined the ABC crew. On Sunday, ABC added tape delayed coverage of the 18-hole playoff.

1972- ABC expanded the tape delayed coverage to 2 hours and this would remain the case through 1979.

*all the oldest tournaments I remember only had coverage on holes 15-18. That was the norm week to week, they'd only show the final groups for an hour or two, playing the last 4 holes.

This is the film of the 1971 centennial Open I watched over and over. Pretty good drama.

1:39 snippet - the 72nd hole - Mr Lu beans a spectator on his way to birdieing the 72nd hole, which Trevino matched. He had won three national Opens - the US, Canadian and British - over a span of 4 weeks.

Tiger Woods matched the feat in 2000, albeit over 14 weeks. Then again, Tiger won a PGA in between the Open Championship and the Canadian Open. 3 majors and 9 wins, probably the greatest year he had.

Completely missed this and any/all action or highlights. Just went to ESPN homepage and note one link or mention of the Open above the fold. Just scrolled and still couldn't find anything.

Dechambeau's upcoming Breaking 50 partner is an interesting choice. Although I suppose it can't be discussed here.
Not sure if it will raise, or lower, his popularity.

I think everyone has already made up their mind about him one way or the other
Watched it. Really enjoyed it, wasn't sure what to expect. Looked like they both actually had a lot of fun. Definitely the most likable I've ever seen the former President.

The break 50 thing is so cool - it's incredible to watch him just absolutely smash these perfect monsters. Or to hit a shot I would barely even conceive of and be like "ohhh nooo it's pushed to the right!" and then it's like 9 feet from the hole 280 yards away LOL

Also incredible to see the praise for eagling a 210 yard par 4! :)

I watched some clips of it. The former president's putting stroke is.....something. ;)

I don’t know about that. Nobody has turned around an image in the game of golf like he has. The only player who is more popular in the States after going to LIV. Becoming a player for the people and infinitely more liked.

I took it as a question on Bryson’s popularity

Yeah. I was thinking Bryson. He went from a guy every thought was a bit of a douche to a guy everyone seemed to love (and my opinion had also changed). I was thinking this new pairing would bring him back down, but I guess it could go the other way too. Never really considered how it would affect DT. I guess people can now see that he is actually a decent golfer.

He (Trump) can get through the ball really well for an older guy in horrible shape. But by pretty much all accounts he consistently cheats (never has a bad lie) and rakes basically any putt inside 10 feet.

Guessing the Bryson video included some 2nd chance putts and an understanding that any terrible shot would be edited out

Agreed from all the video I've seen. Is DT a bad golfer? no. Is he as good as he says and everyone is lead to believe - absolutely not
