Front of the dudes shirt said “save Ukraine”. With a Superman ’S’ on it. Good luck brave one.

eta: respect to Iranian women on the back.

I am surprised Klappenburg does not think that it is a penalty. That looked like a clear PK to me. Hand was away from body and hand deflected the ball.

He's hitting all the hotbutton issues - LGTBQ, Ukraine and Iran. Guy should pick one and stick with it.
I applaud his multi tasking. If you’re gonna do that in Qatar, may as well go all out.

Does it come into consideration at all for the penalty that the ball was rolling into a guy that I'm pretty sure was offsides anyway? Or does that not matter?

Pretty tough break for the defender. Hand was in a natural position. Just unlucky that it landed on the ball.

Bruno was looing to get the ball back after the nutmeg, not pass it anyone else.

Tough call, would be pissed if it was against my team

I think the rule is about whether your hand/arm made your body bigger. In this case it absolutely did, as it was the only part of his body that could have touched the ball.

Whoops, I am completely wrong. This picture is taken right from the laws itself

Nice of the international broadcast t get that Pride Flag on screen twice there :)
Alternate angle

Per the internet:

"He is Mario “Falco” Ferri, an Italian “serial” pitch invader.

He is also known to bring attention to humanitarian problems. For example, he drove personally from Italy to Ukraine (and then to Italy again) to help people escape from the war and helped them by finding a stay in Italy."

Even if his intent was to pass it to himself, surely the other guy being right next to him in an offside position would have stopped the play for offsides though, right? I don't really see a scenario where the offsides player was not going to be close enough to be considered "involved in the play".

So finally we have Group H scenarios

Portugal has advanced

-------------

Ghana advance with a win OR
A draw and South Korea loss/draw
OR
A draw and South Korea win by exactly 1 goal and South Korea doesn't outscore Ghana by 4 or more goals

Ghana is eliminated with a loss

-------------

South Korea advance with...
A win by 2 or more goals and a GHA/URU draw
OR
A win by 1 and a GHA/URU draw and South Korea outscores Ghana by 4 or more goals
OR
A win and a Uruguay win and South Korea's margin of victory is at least the same as Uruguay's margin of victory
OR
A win and a Uruguay win and Uruguay's margin of victory is exactly 1 more than South Korea's margin of victory and Uruguay doesn't outscore South Korea by 2 or more
OR
A win and a Uruguay win and Uruguay's margin of victory is exactly 1 more than South Korea's margin of victory and Uruguay outscores South Korea by exactly 2 and South Korea has a better fair play record (currently South Korea -3, Uruguay -3)
OR
A win and a Uruguay win and Uruguay's margin of victory is exactly 1 more than South Korea's margin of victory and Uruguay outscores South Korea by exactly 2 and South Korea and Uruguay are tied on fair play record and South Korea's lucky ping pong ball is drawn

South Korea is eliminated with a tie or draw

-------------

Uruguay advances with a win AND....
A South Korea loss or draw
OR
A South Korea win and Uruguay's margin of victory is 2 or more goals greater than South Korea's margin of victory
OR
A South Korea win and Uruguay's margin of victory is 1 more goal than South Korea's margin of victory and Uruguay outscores South Korea by 3 or more goals
OR
A South Korea win and Uruguay's margin of victory is 1 more goal than South Korea's margin of victory and Uruguay outscores South Korea by exactly 2 goals and Uruguay has a better fair play record (currently South Korea -3, Uruguay -3)
OR
A South Korea win and Uruguay's margin of victory is 1 more goal than South Korea's margin of victory and Uruguay outscores South Korea by exactly 2 goals and Uruguay and South Korea are tied on fair play record and South Korea's lucky ping pong ball is drawn

Uruguay is eliminated with a tie or draw

So there you go.
Advanced so far: France, Brazil, Portugal
Eliminated so far: Qatar and Canada

Nice brace for Ronaldo

Hearing that Harry Kane has also claimed both goals.
Was hoping someone would post this.....

Handball came before the offside call could have been made so it would only matter if the handball was not given.

Again, gents - another day of work and I know nothing. Can probably watch 3 tonight. Which one to skip?

We won't know until Forbes compiles everything but it would not shock me if this is now the highest salaried athlete in the world.

Odds for both the US and Iran to qualify out of the group are 50/50 with actual oddsmakers -- both in England and in the US.

I am reading this wrong I think.

I don't think there is any scenario that sees "both" US and Iran advancing.

I am going to assume it is 50-50 for Iran or for US to advance, not both.

I assume the bookies must be favoring the US with these odds since Iran holds the draw trump card.

Right, not that both will/could advance but that it's about even odds for one of them to do so.

Thanks, gents! Doing Korea Ghana right now and it's crackling.

If you start with Korea Ghana, how are you avoiding the score of the Cam Serbia game that was played before this game? They usually mention or show the other scores on screen.
I haven't heard it, but I misremembered the order of the games. Whoops. I FF through halftimes, so maybe got lucky?

Oh, and now this game is absolutely bonkers. Great ****ing game.

Giants Stadium is gonna be such a pain in terms of price of tickets - every diaspora in the country is out here to gobble up tickets. Will be a far cry from the $50 it cost me for Saudi Arabia/Morocco in 1994 (downstairs no less). Maybe the Faroes can qualify and play there :)

Feel like the Vancouver and Seattle venues could be ones to target.
I'm going for Monterrey and Guadalajara.

I remember the 2010 Algeria match (or at least the circumstances surrounding it) SO well.

I had just started a new job like 3 weeks prior. 26 years old, wideeyed, new company.....had to be on my best behavior so that everyone knew I was a serious person and there to work. I'm DVR'ing the match and turned off my phone at kickoff so that nothing would be spoiled for me. Figured I could avoid hearing the results and watch it when I got home.

90 minutes later....I'm sitting at my desk plugging away at some training modules. I knew that about 10 guys were watching in the conference room (probably 100 feet away) watching the game but I hadn't heard a peep. Then all of a sudden......."GO!!!!!......NOOOOO!!!!!..........YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!" Didn't take a genius to figure out what happened.

Now I'm just taking PTO and I dont care who knows it.
One of my direct reports scheduled a meeting at 3:00 PM Eastern. I said, "Sorry, but I gotta see a man about a horse during that slot. Also, 3 other people besides me would appreciate it if you moved it away from Tuesday afternoon."

My buddies who were at that game talk about it ALL THE TIME. Amazing finish to a game that was gut wrenching before that run.

Ok, so the second Senegal goal, scoop and score, was just ridiculous. That's so incredibly hard to do right. As a former striker all I can say is

In contrast, viewership in Germany was only 9.23 million for their opening game on Wednesday, less than half the normal number for weekday games in prior World Cups. According to a German friend of mine, there is a high level of disgust with FIFA corruption and Qatar human rights issues in Germany that is putting people off the event. I saw the fan demonstrations at club games prior to the tournament but didn’t believe they were serious about it.

Germany seems like a country that really has its stuff together.

I still don’t trust them

You’d think it would take like 5 seconds for the world to win but no it was actually close

:lmao:
History buff?

Nice combination of stats

97% - Aurélien Tchouaméni has the highest pass completion rate among midfielders at the 2022 so far (min. 100 passes), while also making the most combined tackles and interceptions of any midfielder
