They were talking about how Uruguay was smartly resting players and stuff - should have been pressing the whole time.

Coulda got like 10 or 15 to 1 on Korea advancing this morning

Would take two upsets but imagine Japan vs South Korea in the round of 8  - heck add it two more upsets and have those two with USA and Australia ;)

Uruguay was a bunch of d-bags all game long. Flopping and flailing and whining the whole time then a bunch of them came after the referees after the game was over.

Okay Group G scenarios - thanks for making this much more complicated Brazil :hot:

Brazil advance

----

Switzerland advances with a win OR...
a draw and a Cameroon loss or draw
OR
a draw and a Cameroon win by exactly 1 goal and Switzerland outscores Cameroon by 2 or more goals

Switzerland is out with a loss

----

Cameroon advance with a win AND....
Switzerland draws and Cameroon's win is by 2 or more goals
OR
Switzerland draws and Cameroon's win is by exactly 1 goal and Switzerland does not outscore Cameroon by 2 or more goals
OR
Serbia wins and Cameroon's win margin is the same or greater than Serbia's win margin
OR
Serbia wins and Cameroon's win margin is exactly 1 less than Serbia's win margin and Cameroon outscores Serbia
OR
Serbia wins and Cameroon's win margin is exactly 1 less than Serbia's win margin and Cameroon scores the same number of goals as Serbia and Cameroon has a better fair play record (currently Cameroon -3, Serbia -5)
OR
Serbia wins and Cameroon's win margin is exactly 1 less than Serbia's win margin and Cameroon scores the same number of goals as Serbia and Cameroon has the same fair play record as Serbia and Cameroon draws the lucky ping pong ball

Cameroon is out with a loss or draw

----

Serbia advances with a win AND.....
a Cameroon loss or draw
OR
a Cameroon win and Serbia's win margin is 2 or more goals greater than Cameroon's win margin
OR
a Cameroon win and Serbia's win margin is exactly 1 better than Cameroon's win margin and Serbia outscores Cameroon
OR
a Cameroon win and Serbia's win margin is exactly 1 better than Cameroon's win margin and Serbia scores the same number of goals as Cameroon and Serbia has a better fair play record (currently Cameroon -3, Serbia -5)
OR
a Cameroon win and Serbia's win margin is exactly 1 better than Cameroon's win margin and Serbia scores the same number of goals as Cameroon and Serbia has the same fair play record as Cameroon and Serbia draws the lucky ping pong ball

Serbia is out with a loss or draw

So there you go

Nutty amazing WC so far. I don't remember the 3rd round of group play ever being this consistently entertaining with so much on the line..
Feels like a lot of teams usually know their spot and it's a handful tryong to play their way in. This year, almost everybody was int it until the end.

Didn't get to watch much this morning - two questions:

1. I see somebody posted that Uruguay rested guys (Nunez and Suarez were on the bench) - did they take off with South Korea behind of tied? They had to know a goal put them out - isn't that a colossal mistake or were the subs late on?
2. I didn't see much talk in here but the players went after the refs about a call and Deuce said he thought it was a PK on Cavani - surely he wasn't talking about that dive near the end. Was there a penalty shout earlier that I didn't see? Thoughts on if it should have been a PK?

For 1 I am guessing they didn't expect Portugal to lose.
For 2 I think there was one early in the game. Was watching Portugal so I do not know if it was the Cavani one.

1) Suarez is 35 and Cavani is their all-time leading scorer. I'm guessing that sub happens even if they already know they're chasing a goal. I think the goal is probably to get a combined 90 out of those guys.

2) Not sure which one they showed on the highlights. There was one that went to VAR back before the South Korea score, where all of the announcers and the "rules expert" they always bring on all thought it was a clear penalty and would be ruled as such by VAR.

That's really bad if they just assumed - Portugal had no incentive to play hard as they didn't need to and I'm assuming rested some guys themselves.

had to be for the non call on nunez, which was a penalty and i’m still not sure how after VAR the ref didn’t call it one. the commentators said that it could be a pride thing, since he didn’t call it in real team he didn’t want to call it after review

Suarez I would expect but Nunez and the dude who had already score twice were on the bench too - needing goals that surprises me.

Just saw the replay - yeah, I think I would give that as a penalty. I couldn't even see the slight touch they said happened - even if he toe grazed the ball I'd give a penalty.

All this drama makes me think the 3rd group stage games are the ones to target for tickets as a neutral in WC26.

I would wait for the format first but if they come to their senses, yes 3rd game as a neutral certainly sounds fun.

And while no one loves the idea of a subset of 3rd place teams advancing, it will create an enormous amount of chaos and scenarios. I actually feel for poor @QuizGuy66 in 2026 :)

This is the first game I have tuned into from the start... and I really want to watch Brazil. But holy flippin' crap the announces for this game are awful.
