They have to jump significantly given their wins against top ranked nations this tournament, right?
It should jump nicely but the Spain "win" is not a win for the rankings. It goes in the books as a draw. The Belgium win should give them the most points since Belgium was ranked #2 at the time.

This is an eye opening statistical comparison of Messi and MBappe at the same age.

I still take Haaland over him.

I would too but that is comparing different positions to be fair.

It is going to be awful if Haaland never plays in a World Cup.
I don't think that's possible now with the 48 teams. Just Haaland and Odergaard should see them qualify

It is still very possible IMO.

Europe is only getting 3 extra spots in the 48 team WC.

Teams like Italy, Hungry, Scotland, Austria, Russia, Ukraine, Sweden etc are all ranked above them in UEFA and none of them made the WC.

If we change the name to Harland, any chance he can be cap tied to USMNT?

Can you imagine what we'd be like with a striker like that?
I think Haaland would make the US a legitimate top 10 team in the world. That's how good he is.

No doubt.

The crazy thing to me is he could've represented England as he was born there when his dad was playing in the EPL.

Imagine adding him to the young attacking talent they have there going forward? It'd have been insane.

No kidding. Kane would have had like 12 goals.

no one likes the idea of a 3rd place game but it is great to see it still have some meaning, even to a legend with a ton of trophies on his resume (especially when on the surface this is a massive accomplishment for 99% of the countries in the world)

Could be his last time playing for his country too - so doubly special for him.

Luka Modrić on next steps for future: “Retirement? I want to play the Nations League with Croatia again, and then we'll see”

===============================

This is smart. I bet they want to give him one last game in front of the home fans for a send off.

I was thinking Morocco would definitely care for FIFA rankings as well.

They have to jump significantly given their wins against top ranked nations this tournament, right?
Shouldn't they jump to fourth? They earned it.

That is not how it works.

It is a complicated formula based on ELO and takes into account many results beyond just the most recent.

Gareth Southgate is set to stay as manager of the English men's national team, according to
@JBurtTelegraph
I don't think I'd be ok with that if were a 3 Lions fan. There were rumors that Thomas Tuchel was interested in that position. I think England is one of the favorites to win the next WC if Tuchel is their coach.
Honestly can't see Tuchel staying anywhere for 4 years though. He's too grating of a personality. I agree he's a great coach but best choice with him would be to take over after the Euros.

I think that's why he'd work very well as a national coach. You get the guys for 2-3 weeks at a time at most. His grating personality doesn't have a chance to wear them down.

Tactically, he's one of the best in the world and in must win games his record is specatacular.

World Cup final starting 11s:

🇦🇷 Argentina: Emi Martínez; Molina, Romero, Otamendi, Tagliafico; De Paul, Enzo, Mac Allister; Messi, Álvarez, Di Maria

🇫🇷 France: Lloris; Koundé, Varane, Upamecano, Hernandez; Tchouaméni, Rabiot; Griezmann; Dembélé, Giroud, Mbappé

Summary of my WC Finals:
  • 1994 Final - Brazil 0-0 Italy (Brazil wins on PKs in unwatchable final, Baggio misses decisive PK)
  • 1998 Final - France 3-0 Brazil (the hosts shock the world, pregame mystery with OG Ronaldo)
  • 2002 Final - Brazil 2-0 Germany (legendary Brazilians soundly defeat average German team)
  • 2006 Final - Italy 1-1 France (Italy wins on PKs, Zidane headbutt)
  • 2010 Final - Spain 1-0 Netherlands (digraceful Netherlands should have finished with 9)
  • 2014 Final - Germany 1-0 Argentina (Messi's teammates let him down with woeful finishing)
  • 2018 Final - France 4-2 Croatia (midnight struck for Cinderella as France tore them apart)

Still wonder how Croatia would have done without France getting such a gift of free kick to setup the first goal

Adidas has confirmed that Lionel Messi's No. 10 Argentina jersey is sold out worldwide.

The company said it's "impossible to increase production overnight to replenish a product that it knew would do very well, but not this well."
