*** Official 2024-25 NHL, Playoff talk... Nothing better *** (10 Viewers)

Man, you turn your head for a moment and the Blues have surged since March 1st. They're 10-3 since then, with one of those an OTL. Utah got left in the dust (my nephew cheers for the former Arizona franchise because he still likes the players from when they were in AZ). But that was awfully quick. I blinked and the Blues took off. The Blues have played at least two more games than the teams chasing them (CGY 3, VAN 2, UT 2), but they're in pole position.

I'd like to see them lose a bit (their schedule stiffens comparatively compared to what it had been recently) so we have some meaningful Utah hockey out here in the Inland Empire of California (dawg, it's hot out already in this godforsaken land) for the rest of March and April.
Binnington decided halfway through the 4 Nations tournament that he is in fact one of the elite goalies in the NHL and basically hasn't lost since.

I said over in that thread that you "Can't win with Binnington." I think Zergras got it and laughed. Remember that old saw? I'm not a hanger-outer too much in the hockey threads, but I remember every Blues goalie was maligned until they finally won a Cup.

Beat Boston in seven on the road. And did it convincingly. Bad Marchand change/backcheck cost them the second goal of that game and made it 2-0, I think.

Damn it.

That Boston team only (only!) got one Cup. That's sort of surprising.

I wanted to like your post, but it's a bit too soon. That's okay. If only we could fast forward to 2029. I mean, actually really. Can we fast forward to the 2030 Olympics?

Pretty psyched about my Habs right now. If nothing else, they are fun to watch, and Hutson is worth the price of admission on his own. What an incredible steal. The city is already starting to go nuts. Should be a fun stretch drive.
As a Caps fan, hoping his brother Cole is just as good in the NHL...
If Hutson, Leonard, and Ilya Protas can all develop as hoped and join the group they have now, the future looks pretty good. I'm looking forward to seeing Leonard in the playoffs this year.

Yeah. Just a few years ago, our prospect pipeline was bottom 5 in the league, and now it's probably top 5 or at least in the top 10.
Huston with 1-3 yesterday. Leonard plays today at 2:00.

Cornell pulling off the come from behind update on Michigan State last night was incredible. Keeping it rolling for Coach Schafer.

My son played against Charlie Major growing up. Kid is a player and a winner. Huge goal and a beautiful pass on the game winner with 10 seconds left. Can't wait to see what he does the rest of his career there.

Gophers executed the game plan of "get a lead, sit on a lead, lose the lead and game" to perfection last night.

Although they did get royally screwed by the refs in the 3rd and OT. There's swallowing your whistle and then there's egregious cross checks and trips that lead directly to goals. It was bad.

Reports are that Ryan Leonard is likely to sign today and could make his debut tomorrow in Boston.

Super excited to watch his debut tonight. I would generally be cautious about messing with a good thing, but after losing 3 straight, and having a stagnant power play, I'm hoping the buzz around his debut can help us snap out of this funk. Hoping he slots into the 3rd line in place of Raddysh. I've been impressed with Beauvillier thus far, so I hope he keeps his spot.

Yeah, I've been assuming either Raddysh or Duhaime. They've each played every game this season, so it's going to be a tough situation for whichever one it is..

Blues score with 28 seconds left to tie it up 1-1 and then win in OT to make it 10 in a row. What a run of games....

Needing two to tie and three to take the lead, I feel like record watch officially starts tonight. Cheapest ticket right now for tonight's home game is about $150 with fees on Stub Hub. Caps then have a road game against the Islanders and home next Thursday against Carolina, which is running $300 for the cheapest seat. It will be interesting to see how high those go if he's tied going into that game.

Well, the way he’s going, it’s hard to imagine he doesn’t get it Sunday on Long Island. But I wish it would happen at home.

That is such a big deal. A lot bigger than Lebron scoring 40,000 or whatever. Not sure why there isn’t more hype for this moment.
I think both are equally huge. Nobody’s ever hit 50,000 points before.
Maybe it’s the Jordan fan in me that made me type that. It is so hard to score a goal in the NHL though.
It is, but if you average 25 points a game x 80 games it would take you 25 years to reach 50k.

I never thought this record would be broken
Not only that I didn't think anyone would come close.
i would’ve liked to have seen the number mike bossy would’ve posted in the clubhouse. as a nyr fan, i hated this guy and those islander teams, but man, guy was maybe the greatest goal scorer ever…until his back gave up. he never scored less than 50 goals in a season until that final year when he scored 37 in 65 games. he had 573 after 10 years. it’s the nature of sports to speculate.

oh and the nyr passed on bossy 2x in the draft to take deblois and duguay.

It's funnier that Ovechkin ties an incredible record, and the reaction of some is still showing off how in their heads a guy from another sport is.

These Habs sure are fun to watch. Season sweep of the Panthers!
I've had the pleasure of seeing a couple of games in the old Forum and some in the Bell Centre (or whatever they call it now) and the atmosphere is amazing. When Suzuki scored the OT winner the other night the place exploded. It will be a real shame if the Habs miss the playoffs.
Vegas is supposed to have such a great atmosphere, but when they were down 3-1 to the Oilers the other night it was quiet as a church. The excitement ramped up a bit when they made it 3-2, but dwindled rapidly after that.

Wow, Bossy had 573 goals in 752 career games! Mario has 690 in 915 games. All the other top goal scorers have well over a 1,000 career games.
Amazing to think what both could have done if not for injuries, etc.

I never thought this record would be broken
Ovechkin had the best shot, but his goal scoring pace slowed down for two seasons and people underestimated his ability to bounce back. Gretzky's point scoring record will never be touched.
Growing up in Edmonton and watching that era of Oilers was amazing , I really thought no one would get close to his goal record.
The game changed over the last couple of decades with speed, skill and rule changes and still didn't consider it breakable.
Ovechkin proved me wrong

Once Ovechkin breaks the record,I can't see anybody breaking it again. Ovechkin is 39 and, if he hadn't been injured, he would have hit 50 goals this season.
With salaries exploding in the league I can't see many guys playing to 39+ in the future.

Bolts make the playoffs for the 11th time in 12 years. The one time they didn’t, they missed it by one point. Best sports run I’ll ever experience.

Was good to hear Sam Rosen and John Davidson together again on the TNT broadcast of the Rangers/Flyers games last night. My mom was a big Rangers fan, so grew up listening to them. Forgot how much I liked JD on color.

They sounded like they haven't missed a beat in 20 years. Really going to miss Sam. This year's version of the team on the other hand....
