*** Official 2024-25 NHL, Playoff talk... Nothing better *** (2 Viewers)

It was great to see Ovi get the OT winner last night. All those goals he's scored and that was his first playoff OT goal.
Let's hope we bottle the energy we had in the 1st period and at the start of OT and not the tummy ache we had at the end of the 3rd.

As I told my wife, I hate to love playoff hockey. The Caps simply cannot win a playoff game by multiple goals and let me enjoy it. It's constant heart-attack hockey. I'll take it as long as we keep winning.

Also - I just read Martin Fehérváry is out for the season, so there goes his chances of coming back. At least Alexeyev looked decent last night. Impressive for a guy who barely played all season.

Yep, felt like a typical Caps playoff disappointment in the third. After seeing TOR and CAR take care of business, I was hoping we'd do the same.

For a team that is supposed to be good defensively the Kings need to put a body on McDavid. Once he decided to take over the Kings had no chance. Lucky he didn't decide to do that until too late (barely)

Concerned Panthers fan here. Tampa is playing great hockey and match up well vs my Cats.

Critical games 1&2. Need at least a split or we could be in big trouble.

Go Bolts

One of the Florida teams have represented the East going back to 2019. This is the best Bolts team since 2021 imo.

Lou Lamoriello out as Islanders GM. He's likely going to milk his past Devils success across the league several more times.

We are a different team with a healthy Chucky. My oh my.....what a game 1 win.

Tomorrows game should be very interesting.

Ryan Leonard is going to be so good.

He looked like a different player last night. Much more situationally aware. The one shot he made where he pulled it in and went through the legs of the defender was :o.

He could've easily had a goal and a few assists instead of just the 1 A.

Beauvillier is playing like a man possessed so far. Loving the grit and speed he's brought.

Protas will be traveling with the team to Montreal. Not a guarantee he plays, but positive progress.

I've tried for days to find footage of the actual play in which he got cut, but I haven't been able to. Having not personally ever played full-gear ice hockey, I don't totally understand how your foot gets cut that bad while in a skate... any insight?

I haven't seen it either, but if the other player's skate is coming down from the top it could get in between the tongue of the skate and cut the top of the foot. Or if he was lying on the ice and someone lifted their leg skating past him and didn't get it high enough. Depending on how tight you tie the skates, there can be some space there as your foot flexes in the boot.

The Lightning made 3 straight Cup Finals and now will lose 3 straight first rounds. Guessing that’s never been done before.

Nothing drives me more crazy in hockey than the defense failing to get the puck out of the defensive zone. Two of Montreal’s three goals are because of defensive zone turnovers. All night, the Caps have failed to clear their zone. Especially when Suzuki’s line is out there, just make it boring and chip it out.

The Ovechkin goals scoring record made it interesting to watch your team.
Tom Wilson's crap makes it incredibly difficult to want any playoff success for your team.
Happy Josh Anderson stood up to him and didn't fall for his bs. Only fines, surprised there weren't suspensions.

Much better in game 4. I only noticed a couple times they didn't get the puck out when they had an easy opportunity to do so. They dominated the 5-on-5 play. PK was really the only problem, which is where MTL scored both their goals. Stats show 0-5 on the PP, but Dobes absolutely robbed Wilson on McMichael on a couple chances so I think they were actually decent when up a man. Hopefully they can close it out on Wednesday.

From the MN/LV game the other day I learned that it's okay to tackle and pin down an opposing player as long as it enables you to score a goal in the process.

I learned that refs swallow the whistle when it gets late in the 3rd and OT unless you touch McDavid and then it comes back out again.

With the amount of crap the Kings have gotten away with this series, I wouldn't be griping.
You're saying Gavrikov didn't trip him?

I think there were multiple penalties (from both teams) down the stretch that weren't called including a much more egregious trip late in regulation that wasn't called that led to another Oilers goal.

Granted if Byfield just chips the puck out Kings likely win in regulation. Just frustrating to have the game decided on a questionable call that had more egregious go as non calls. I thought the Gravikov penalty should have been no call. He didn't stick out his knee and McDavid tripped Gavrikov as much as he got tripped. Should have been a no call.

Wow, that's a very Kingscentric view there. The Oilers were eating LA's lunch in the 3rd period and OT. Gavrikov was gassed because Hiller insists on running the hell out of his top 4 D and top 3 lines.
It was definitely a trip. Gavrikov was out of gas and couldn't keep with McDavid, so he tripped him.

Hiller going into prevent in game 4 (and game 1 and game 3 to some extent) coupled with too short of a bench has really turned this series around. Makes no sense to play a certain way for 50 minutes where you dominate and then go to prevent and let the best player in the league have space to build up speed and take over.

Now Edmonton has taken over with Co fidence and its likely series over. So dumb. Dumb Hiller.

Don't expect to hear any more griping about the Refs from Kings' fans after Byfield closed his hand on the puck in the crease (Oilers didn't get a penalty shot) and Clarke buried Kane into the back of the net with a crosscheck.

I have said that calls have been missed on both sides except for McDavid able to do what he wants. He held Gavrikovs stick yesterday and got away with it. There were trips on Kings players not called. It's mostly even.

Byfield's play seems like he covered the puck with his hand but I didn't see anything conclusive and the puck ended up nowhere near him. He could have batted it without closing over it. It was close and I wouldn't have argued if it was called. I just didn't see anything conclusive.

(Although I would much rather give a penalty shot with the way Kuemper is playing over a power play.)

Even though it would be nice to go Friday and potentially watch the Panthers close it out at home…..just win tonight and get some rest and await the winner of Leafs/Senators.

Tampa makes me nervous.

McDavid gets to do whatever he wants??? What games are you watching??? He gets routinely dumped, cross checked, interfered with, etc.

Did you see the play at the end of the 2nd period where Gavrikov dumped McDavid on the ice and then gave him some cross checks while Connor laid on the ice? Didn't stop until Kane came in and challenged him, then he wanted no part of it.

I guess you didn't notice that the cross checks were happening because McDavid was holding Gavrikov's stick and they stopped once McDavid stopped holding the stick.

McDavid does get held a lot. He is hard to officiate for sure. He also holds sticks and cheap shots people a lot. As with most sports he is officiated differently as a star.

Kings fans are funny. When Gretzky was an Oiler they would complain about all the calls he "got". Then he's with the Kings and every penalty he draws are all justified.
Gavrikov dumped McDavid at the end of the period, so McDavid held his stick. Gavrikov starts cross checking him and doesn't stop until Kane steps in. McDavid cheap shots people now?
Wow....enjoy the playoffs.

McDavid cheap shots people now?
I was not referencing that play specifically as a cheap shot. Just pointing out he was holding the stick.

It was a generic statement about McDavid and cheap shots. This is not something new. I have seen various compilations of McDavid with questionable cheap shots. I was surprised by it when I first stumbled upon it. I think he is a great player and was surprised by the videos.

An example

I watched game 4 and they played the entire third without applying any forecheck. It was absolutely brutal to watch and I am glad they lost. Hopefully others won't try it - at least not for the entire GD period. Especially dumb against a team like Edmonton with McJesus ability to carry the puck through the neutral zone.

Proud of my Habs. They put up a good battle against the #1 seed on the East. Future looks bright.

Now I can cheer for whoever is playing the Leafs.

As a Caps fan, I definitely had many moments of worry. An OT win, two wins with ENGs, and then last night was the most comfortable win. And, of course, MTL dominated in game 3.

You guys are going to be monsters in a few years. Be proud of that team. Gritty team of young, super talented guys. I have MASSIVE respect for Josh Anderson after this series. I was literally unaware of him, but he's amazing.

I echo @dgreen - I was worried...I was worried starting in the 3rd period of the 1st game honestly, and almost in full on panic mode when LT went down in game 3. We are a different team when he's not in net, and I honestly don't know why. Lindgren is good, but for some reason hasn't been showing it.

For the Caps - so good to get Protas back. He's a difference maker on both ends of the ice. Leonard looked great last night. Shocked he hasn't gotten one in yet, but he keeps people on their toes. I feel like we're rounding back into form in time for the Canes series...it's going to be a brutal one.
