***official 2024/25 womens bball thread*** playoff bball wins return to seattle brohans (1 Viewer)

Looks like Paige will be going to Dallas.

Sparks would have been the dream scenario, but Arike, Paige, and Satou will be a lot of fun. If Satou stays, which I assume she will now.

Rest of the lottery was
2. Sparks
3. Sky
4. Mystics

A big win for the Sky too. Dallas had a pick swap, so that was about as good as the Sky could have hoped for.

#3 might be a little early to take Olivia Miles, but who knows with the way she's playing.

Big win for TCU over NC State, but I have no idea how TCU wasn't ranked already.

Team full of veteran transfers. Van Lith is a 3x3 Olympian. Sedona Prince is 6'7", can move and shoot. Not going to compete with South Carolina or anything, but they have the look of a Sweet 16 or maybe even Elite 8 team.

Unrivaled rosters have been selected.
Here is the Selection Show on You Tube
Not a fan of the reality style of that particular production (I'm not the target audience for sure), and of course, the decisions were made outside of this, but in theory, I dig the coaches collaborating to pick the teams then finding out which team would be theirs.

All the teams look good, but it's hard not to like the Mist and Lunar Owls. Wishing T-Spoon's Vinyl a lot of success, and hopefully she'll be tapped to fill one of the Aces' assistant coach vacancies.

Here are the rosters:

Vinyl
Arike Ogunbowale
Rhyne Howard
Aliyah Boston
Jordin Canada
Rae Burrell
Dearica Hamby

Rose
Chelsea Gray
Kahleah Copper
Angel Reese
Brittney Sykes
Lexie Hull
Azura Stevens

Mist
Jewell Loyd
Dijonai Carrington
Breanna Stewart
Courtney Vandersloot
Rickea Jackson
Aaliyah Edwards

Lunar Owls
Skylar Diggins-Smith
Allisha Gray
Napheesa Collier
Natasha Cloud
WILDCARD
Shakira Austin

Phantom
Jackie Young
Marina Mabrey
Satou Sabally
Tiffany Hayes
WILDCARD
Brittney Griner

Laces
Kelsey Plum
Kayla McBride
Alyssa Thomas
Courtney Williams
Kate Martin
Stefanie Dolson

Nice job by USC fighting back, but ND just plays such great defense. Hidalgo is just relentless. If KIng is going to be this good, ND is going to be a major problem.
Not a "better than South Carolina" problem, but maybe better than everybody else.

Should be a great 2nd half.

UCLA is really good but damn nobody saw this coming
Pauley packed for this one. It's been a ghost town for the men's games I've seen there this season.
The fans sure seemed to be having a good time.

Not a lot of ways to beat South Carolina, but 6'7" stud in Betts and Londynn Jones going bonkers from 3 goes a long way. She should never have to pay for a beer in LA ever again.
Just an awesome all-around team performance.

I'm sure USC losing at home 24 hours earlier made it even sweeter.

And FWIW, Pat Summit still has the longest winning streak for an SEC team.

It doesn't get much easier for South Carolina. They've got #8 Iowa State on Thanksgiving.

Tough loss for my Gamecocks. The pressure to run the table is now gone. I guess we'll see how they react. Definitely wouldn't count them out in the long run. Coach Staley is better than that.

Yeah, they are still definitely the favorite to win it all.

They shot 36%, and the Bruins were on fire.

It was hard not to notice the loss of Cardoso in this one, with Betts going off.

But Joyce is only a few games into her collegiate career. With her developing, that rotation of bigs is going to be dominant come March.

A little surprising, but UCLA jumps to #1.
I mean, when you outplay the Gamecocks from wire-to-wire, sure, it makes sense. I just would have thought UConn would have moved up to #1.

Congrats to my Lady Heels taking the Bad Boy Mowers Bahamas tourney. A sluggish start, but they dominated Indiana in the 2nd half.

Losing Deja Kelly sucked, but Apex girl Indya Nivar coming back to NC is nice. She's a gamer. I swear I think Ustby has W potential. Crisp getting hot off the bench is great. If the good young bigs can grow up in a hurry, UNC can do more damage in the ACC than people thought.

Pretty nice lineup of games today. On a day when a lot of people are off work, it should be a nice little showcase.

NCSU-LSU
Duke-Oklahoma
UConn-Ole Miss

Unfortunately, none of those games are on TV. The only way to watch is Flo Sports.
Continental Tire is sponsoring that one Bahamas tourney. I'm curious how they make the decision to sponsor a tournament that almost nobody can watch.

Anyway, if anybody is desperately trying to catch the rest of the Duke-Oklahoma game, or the UConn-Ole Miss game later, Flo Sports is $20 a month. And the Fire TV app for it kind of sucks.

Flo Sports is garbage. Every other year or so, I have to use it for college hockey. It's like listening to an audition to be on D-III campus radio.
Haha. Yeah it's terrible.

I'll cancel tomorrow, but it was worth it for this Duke-Oklahoma game. It's been so much fun.
Right on. Like in my little world, the game means enough to make the deal.

I'll be back in December to see if Paige can win one. Gotta pull for the Minnesota kid.

If anybody outside of South Carolina can do it, UConn has as good a chance as anybody else. Hard to believe UConn hasn't won a title since Obama was President.

Speaking of South Carolina, with the obvious beating that the Lions were going to give to the Bears, I was really hoping Iowa State could make a game of this.

But, nope.
Poor Cyclones. It was bound to get ugly with the Gamecocks coming off a loss.

Another fun match-up with ND and TCU tonight. Hidalgo/Miles vs. Van Lith/Prince

Would be a great showcase on a holiday weekend.

But, of course, almost nobody will be able to watch it because it's only on stupid Flo Sports.

Notre Dame dropping another one to Utah. Back to back losses after the big win at USC.
Brutal early schedule for ND that won't get any easier. Texas and UConn coming up in the next 3 games.

Nice for Utah, who just got their coach stolen after the start of the season (Lynne Roberts is the new Sparks coach).

Michigan moves to 7-1, with their only loss a close one to South Carolina. Not much competition yet, but those 3 freshman look legit. Swords is so good.
Oklahoma, USC, and UCLA coming up will be telling.

Juju vs Swords will be must see TV.

Some bangers Thursday in the ACC-SEC challenge (all on ESPN1/2)

Kentucky at UNC (5:00)
Texas at ND (7:00)
Ole Miss at NC State (7:00)
Duke at South Carolina (9:00)
Stanford at LSU (9:00)
Alabama at Cal (9:00)

Outside of my Heels, it'll be fun to see Texas play a great team, to see how ND bounces back after the losses, and how Duke stacks up with South Carolina. I'm enjoying watching this Duke team more than I'd like to admit.

And then, of course, Friday night, the Golden State Valkyries will be be having the expansion draft on ESPN.

Her Hoop Stats has a pretty solid breakdown of the options and predictions on who will be protected and picked.

Kentucky comes in as the leading shot blocking team in the nation with a lot of size.

Gakdeng, Ustby, and Toomey out playing that front line so far.

I'm biased but I think all three could be big contributors in the WNBA.

I might be out of my damn mind and I know this won't age well, the 30 years ago Ivory Latta brought an unexpected title home.

I don't know how they could do it, but this UNC team is special. They are going to do something that nobody expected.

Deja left us. That big for Kentucky that got her *** whipped tonight left us too.

Get in line boys and girls.

Heels are humming. If you didn't want to be a part of it you're going to get your *** whipped too.

That foul on Notre Dame with :01 is atrocious. Texas player initiated all contact and flopped. How can a ref be that bad?
That call sucked, but what a game.

So much fun to watch ND when they are cooking.

Hidalgo is amazing, and I think Miles might end up going #2 in the draft. Kiki has been assumed by everyone, but this version of Miles is exactly what the Sparks and Sky both need.
Citron might get over looked with Hidalgo and Miles both now healthy, but she's going end up being a great pick by somebody. Feels like she'll go to the LIberty or Lynx as another great 3 and D wing. When they beat USC, it was Citron that was shutting down Juju.

Texas is a lot of fun too. Seeing Booker dominate as a long wing in a Texas #35 takes me back to 2007.

I know there's not much going on in the sports world today, so it's nice that the ladies give us some good ones.

Long-time Big Ten rivals USC and Oregon facing off now.

But I think Tennessee at Iowa later will be the game of the day.
Both programs in transition that are reloading faster than people thought.

Tennessee still a little under the radar, but currently leading the nation in scoring, offensive rebounding, and steals.
Iowa should be getting Olsen back for this one.

Tennessee-Iowa delivered.

You wont' see many games where one team turns the ball over 30 times, and it's a tie game with 3 minutes left. This game was a wonderful clash of styles. UT's relentless chaos vs. Iowa's execution.
Could have gone either way, but Cooper took over in the 4th.

Time to pay attention the Vols.
There's a reason they lead the country in steals. It's Arkansas 40 minutes of hell. Swarming full court defense, aggressive trapping and weak side help. They play 10 players at least 15 minutes a game, so they are always fresh. They rotate out like hockey lineups.

Iowa handled it as well as all but about 15-20 teams in the country probably would. And still turned it over 30 times.

Catching up on the VT-Duke game. It disgusts me how much I like watching Duke.

Disgusts me even more how good Toby Fournier is, and that Duke landed her. She just absolutely dismantled the Hokies in her 11th game.

She's going to be a superstar.

If Tennessee could shoot a lick, they'd be top 5 in the country. That was brick after brick after brick but their size and athleticism was too much.

It'll be interesting to see how it works against elite teams with great PGs.

If you can beat the press and traps, there's wide open shooters everywhere.

It would have been fun to see Clark play them. She would have dominated them I'm sure just like she did Ohio State.

They've got UConn coming up, I think. I'd love to see them play against Notre Dame in the tournament.

Tennessee also has the top recruiting class in the country coming in, which is extremely impressive.

It's got to be hard to recruit top talent by telling them no matter how good they are they won't get more than 20 minutes a game.

It's one thing if you are Dawn Stailey, but Caldwell's in her first season at UT.

Tonight's the night. UConn at Notre Dame!

Fudd will be out, which sucks, but if she were there (and shows teams a good, long healthy stretch this season), we could be looking at 4 of the top 5 picks in the upcoming WNBA draft.

I think Miles is a lock for #3. I don't even think #2 is completely out of the question. Unlikely, of course, but like the Sky, she's exactly what the Sparks need.

Citron would be perfect for the Mystics. She's perfect for pretty much any team. She's so good. 3 and D wing that does everything well. I don't actually think she'll go to the Mystics because that seems like too smart of a pick for them (this franchise still doesn't have a GM or coach).

She seems like the sort of player to get overlooked and slip to the Liberty, Fever, or Storm and then make an immediate impact on a contender.

Of course Hidalgo and Strong too.
If somebody wants to call Hidalgo the best player in college basketball, I wouldn't argue.
Strong has been getting some lofty comps, like Nneka with a 3, and Phee. She's the reason Geno signed an extension.

This one is going to be so much fun.

iowa pulled that one out against iowa state last night and man they both had a big in the middle that was truly a big and it was fun to watch take that to the bank brohans

Hidalgo popping off like she did in this game last year. Hopefully Miles' ankle can hold. Another big injury for her would be disastrous on a lot of levels.

Strong seems to be meeting the moment as a freshman.

Miles is obviously not right.

Even at 5'6", Hidalgo is the alpha on any court she's on.

Paige fighting, but she's got Citron guarding her. Juju had a slow game with Citron guarding her too.

UConn should introduce themselves to each other and perhaps practice an offense. Any offense really. Seems like UConn tried to play Paige + [insert hot hand] and no one stepped up.
Not sure who Hidalgo taunts when she puts her socks on in the morning but I'm sure they are sick of it.
ND decided early on that there would be no plays from UConn bigs in the paint and were never challenged.
Chen must love reviewing her turnovers during the week.
ND's student attendance record was set tonight...at 780 some odd students. Does the arena only hold 1,000 people?

Crazy to think Paige, Chet Holmgren and Jalen Suggs were all either juniors or seniors at the same time in high school in MN and all will go in the top 5 of their respective pro drafts.

This was a tough spot for UConn. Notre Dame plays some great defense. Particularly Citron and Hidalgo. And King seems like the perfect veteran big to unlock a new level for them.

You're right, somebody else just had to step up and just didn't. Fudd would have made a huge difference in this game.

The shots Paige was making were really impressive. There weren't many (any?) easy looks for her all game.

This lady seems not very bright.

"Why couldn't they have put the whole WNBA on that cover and said the WNBA is the league of the year?" Uh, because no one in their right mind would say a league that still lost money despite Clark was the league of the year.

"Because when we just keep singling out one player it creates hard feelings." OH, NO! She basically just called the WNBA soft.

"And so now you're starting to hear stories of racism within the WNBA and I don't want to hear that." That sounds like code for, "I don't want to hear about the racism that obviously exists in our league against Clark and other players of her skin color."

Racism of any kind is wrong, and the geniuses at the WNBA still haven't figured that out.

She's a moron. This was obviously an incredibly stupid thing to say or think.

She's one idiotic owner that does not speak for the WNBA. Just like Jerry Jones doesn't represent everything the NFL is about or believes. Or any other moron owner in any league.

She's a terrible owner.
She became an owner because she was married to Robert Johnson. The former Charlotte Bobcats owner that named the team after himself.

She divorced Bob in 2002, took $700 million from the divorce, married the judge that presided over the divorce, and used some of that money to buy the Washington Mystics.

People can hate on the W all they want for whatever reason, but please don't base it on what this idiot said.
