**Official 2024 Denver Bronco thread** (1 Viewer)

Evidently starting ILB Alex Singleton tore his ACL so opened up a spot

this sucks. He's become the heart of the DEF. Granted his personal foul against the HOU QB last year cost Denver the game, but you can't deny this guy goes 100% 100% of the time.
Huge loss. Not only was Singleton a captain but the VJ defense relies on constant communication and he was at the center of it all.

From a talent standpoint it is some consolation that Kwon Alexander and Zach Cunningham have been signed, but Singleton's leadership qualities will be missed greatly.

Now that I've found the official team thread, I'm here to say that after yesterday, I'm jumping on the bandwagon. I'll even say this: They'll go into Baltimore next week and beat the Ravens and then in two weeks, they go into Kansas City and hand the Chiefs their first loss of the season. When are people going to start talking about this team as a playoff contender?

So many teams, so little time. The national media is still coming to grips with how bad the Jets and Cowboys are. If DEN takes out BAL and KCC over the next two weeks there will be plenty of headlines to go around.

A little early for a bandwagon IMO.

But that defense is young and legit elite. It will only get better. Special teams are solid and well-coached.

Offense needs seasoning and playmakers. Payton's offense is too complex for Bo to fully digest in rookie year. But every week he makes visible strides.

They are ahead of schedule but 2024 was always going to be a rebuilding year.

Next year they have significant cap space and will make their move.

I'll take Things you won't read in the Anthony Richardson thread for $200 please.

I am so very impressed with how HC Sean Payton is rebuilding this team.

The latest move is risky, but if you evaluate BEFORE the LAC and CIN games, without hindsight, I think it's a brilliant move. The *suggestion* is... Denver might not beat LAC in LA, but let's do our best to make the playoffs and then see what happens.

By accepting the flex to TNF, he's putting Denver in a difficult spot against LAC, but we might have lost the game anyways on that Sunday, even with enough time to prepare. By "forcing" CIN to move from TNF to sunday, he takes away a few days of rest and preparation from CIN and gives them to his team. The CIN game might decide which of the two teams makes the playoffs.

and, on the unlikely chance that Nix has a good game and beats LAC on national TV, that helps his fight for OROY.

I wouldn't be surprised if K.C. rests their starters for Week 18, which would help them clinch the last playoff berth. I mean, the Chiefs have already locked up home field in the AFC, so there's no need for Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce to be playing. In fact, there's no need for Taylor Swift to even show up in Denver!

It's official: The Chiefs are resting their starters next week, so the Broncos should have an easy path to the playoffs.

Is Evan Engram going to fill the "joker" role? I'm not as smart as many of y'all, but I'm not seeing it. I feel like he'll be more of a standard receiving TE (and probably the 2nd most receptions behind Courtland Sutton) and Marvin Mims filling the joker role. IF I'm right, then I think Sean Payton's extended talk about "joker" is more of a smoke-screen/distraction.

Yeah...if he thinks he can use EE like the Raiders use Bowers, he's in for a huge surprise.

I'm wondering if he can be the next Jimmy Graham.

I agree that Engram is not going to fill the mystical "Joker" role

However, IMO where Payton going is not Joker = one player but more "Joker by Committee."

When you hear Payton talk the "J" word, it is more about player traits (mainly speed mismatches) and less about having those traits embodied in a single person. Those players are too rare.

Of course it would be great to get the next Alvin Kamara, but it's the media and fans trying to shoehorn into one unicorn-type player.

The way Payton used Mims last year was vintage Joker concepts. To a lesser extent Troy Franklin. Payton wanted to do similar things with Dulcich but that fell through and hopefully Engram can fill the void.

Now we just need either Jaleel/Blake Watson to step up or draft a strong pass-catching RB and the Broncos should have Joker traits at all three skill positions.

And therefore "Joker by Committee" IMHO

Surprised no one has mentioned the additions of Greenlaw and Hufanga. Those guys when healthy are impact players. Denver D was already good but they have a chance to be special this season.

if the first round CB pick turns out to be almost as good as PS2 and these guys can stay healthy, then, umm, wow.

I was upset at first, but i eventually came around to appreciating the fact they went BPA. I think RB RJ can contribute immediately. I think Pat Bryant could be our new Brandon Marshall. I acknowledge that i'm not very football smart, but Pat's highlights on how quickly he looks the ball in and then how QUICKLY he turns up field reminds me of Marshall. I think his football speed and agility is way better than his combine numbers.

What direction were you originally hoping they would go with their first?

omarion hampton? But maybe a dominant secondary and RB just is good is better? I was going for a good TE too.

What did you want in the first few rounds?

Because this draft is so deep at RB, I wanted defense. I love the Barron pick, he's a natural playmaker. As you said, if he is a hit then the starting CB pairing will be elite.

Hampton would have been really fun though.
