Last 5 years he's averaged ~60 games played, 20 homers, 40 rbis (but an immense 958 OPS, 161 OPS+ while playing)

Shoe in for HOF, and still getting paid for the next 6 years so his bank account isn't hurting, but I mean, just imagine if this guy did what he did on a good team earlier in his career and didn't break down in his late 20's so badly.

Was going to post something similar. I guess a 3time mvp has to get two to the hall, but his last 5 years have been a real bummer. This generation’s Mickey mantle

Agreed. I made this comparison yesterday on my Roto league’s text chain.
 
Another thing is that I am finding remarkable this year, the Milwaukee ****ing Brewers.
Ran away with the division last year. Their coach got sniped. Their Cy Young winning pitcher gets sniped. Their #2 starter is out all year with injury. Their all-star closer has pitched all of 3 innings this year. Their lineup is relatively unremarkable with basically two all-stars in Contreras (2x all star) and Yelich (3x) who is perenially injured.
Their payroll is 21st out of 30 teams and they are well on their way to running away with the division again this year.

Powered by speed! Turang took a while, but he's been fantastic for them. They have 6 guys with double digit steal totals. Team OBP of .333, 2nd only the the Yankees. Get on base, good things happen.

Somebody should tell the Mariners about getting on base and taking an occasional walk. Their offense SUCKS.

Yeah, I had many fantasy teams anchor thier chains to the allure of a healthy Sizemore. Easy guy to root for.

He's not exactly walking into a prime coaching opportunity here. The roster has been gutted, the team is demoralized, and the fan base is fed up with Jerry.

On the positive side, things can only go up from here....I think.

If Jackson Merrill doesn’t win ROY it’s a sham. Kid is such a stud and has been coming up clutch all year.

Imo, yes. Kid is playing a premium position everyday ( not every 5th day) and having a huge impact. Skenes is incredible too, and will likely win due to the pitching bias, but Jackson is having a greater impact on the team day in day out.

Tyler Fitzgerald should also be in the conversation. He’s been insanely hot since getting called up to the bigs.
 
I'm so jealous of all you fans of teams that actually have hope...ever. The pirates have the worst owner & worst manager in sports history and they will never have a prayer unless the owner sells, which he won't. And he'll let the clown managing the team keep them in the basement. MLB is a joke.

I will never understand why the MLBPA will not talk salary cap in the CBA along with a salary floor. The floor would cure so many problems. They say they are repping all of the players, but it seems like they only care about the top 1%

You’re talking to a life long Padres fan. Few franchises know suffering like we do. Zero WS Championships, zero. Hell we didn’t even have a no hitter until 3 yrs ago.
 
Well, I'm a Rangers' fan who finally got the monkey off the teams' back with the WS win last year but I've lived in Mariner territory for 28 years. Seattle has at least SOME legit claim to lifetime futility as a franchise. 21 year playoff drought, never been to a WS and squandered the best years of Felix Rodriguez, one of the best pitchers I've ever seen in person. Couldn't hang on to Griffey, ARod or Unit and still can't figure out that a team OBP of .300 isn't going to get you very far.
 
The Pete Rose documentary on HBO was interesting. It is tedious to re-litigate everything so why bother, but there was one quote from Pete that summed up his humility and self-awareness.

On the death of Bart Giamatti, Pete said: "that was the worse thing to happen to me."
 
Anything I see on Twitter I now take with a grain of salt, but MLB is considering requiring starting pitchers to pitch 6 innings (with some caveats, I think) ? What is the point of this? Seems like they have dealt with a lot of the time issues already.

Probably make things worse if/when guys just have awful command on any particular day.

I’ve liked the changes but this would be too much.

Think I saw the story on ESPN where there were exceptions for the rule, like when a pitcher reaches 100 pitches (some in this thread will love that), give up 4 ER, etc.
 
Addressing where the Brewers start a reliever for the first inning, then put in their intended starting pitcher?
