Barack Obama's campaign sees McCain's AYERS bid, and raises them the KEATING FIVE

The campaign put together a documentary outlining the scandal, and tied it back to the current economic crisis we're having now. The documentary is linked in the link above, and it's about 13 minutes long. Interesting how Obama has instantly trumped the Ayers talk, now everyone's talking about Keating. Damaging...very much.

The video was just released at noon today, and just walking by several tv's on, they weren't talking about ayers, but were talking about keating. This documentary is pretty powerful...you watch it yet?The way they've tied it to the economy, and with the direct usage of old senate hearing testimony on video, makes it very compelling. Love McCain's old glasses. :kicksrock: .

Seems like the audio is off on some of it. (The shots of McCain listening while a guy at the podium is saying something, which you can't hear - only can hear the ominous music in the background).Edit: also, it seems a bit long. 13 minutes for an online video is like an eternity.

Wait a second..i'm not everyone? :hophead: .Just wait, it'll be dominating the news soon, overshadowing the Ayers stuff. Remeber, Obama's camp just launched this today at noon.

It's better if you download the video and watch it from hard drive.

CNN is covering it. Remember we did Ayers already. We haven't really done Keating yet. It is newer old news and will thus get the play for a bit.

And the way it's tied into the #1 issue of today, the economy, makes it even more relevant. It talks about McCain's past, then ties it to the present, with his "key advisor", and calls into question his ability to handle the current major crisis. It's a big deal. Ayers is not.

The video of Gramm saying what he did, about us being a nation of whiners, about it being a mental recession...coupled with hearing testimony, and the stock market going down HUGE today...this is incredibly harmful to McCain's campaign.

I find it funny that many conservatives feel that hitting McCain on the Keating 5 is dirty politics akin to McCain's mud slinging with the Ayers crap.

Apparently we're supposed to just take John's word for it with regard to experience, and we're not supposed to look into that experience.

And Obama probably doesn't "go there" if McCain doesn't try to drag Obama into the mud on the Ayers thing. You just know they were holding this one in reserve for when McCain eventually tried to play the character assassination card. The Obama campaign is always one step ahead.

Absolutely, because this way, it looks like they're doing it out of retaliation, which usually goes over better with the public than out and out aggression. The timing of this is absolutely terrible for McCain's campaign. As if it weren't bad enough that the economy pretty much sank their campaign, Palin goes after Obama on Ayers, hoping to change the conversation to scandalous associations, and Obama comes back with Keating and ties it into the economic crisis...neckpunch and a kick in the balls, at the same time.

 FWIW I never figured out why the other Republican nominees didn't hammer him on this back during the primaries. It was always his biggest weakness which is one reason I thought the whole Wright/Ayers thing coming out when it did was really a good thing. Palin (who the majority of Americans think is a joke anyway)/McCain/Right Wing Blogs can poniticate all they want, but its really old news to the majority of the public and its not coming from a messanger that most Americans trust.

I think Wright's DC press conference (which precipitated Obama publically ending his association with him and his church) was planned by Obama's campaign.

Obama offers best way out of economic disarray

From Hugh McColl Jr., former chairman and CEO of Bank of America

In 49 years of living in Charlotte, I've seldom offered my opinion in writing and never submitted a piece such as this. The condition of our country compels me.

The economic disarray threatening our community and nation poses critical challenges but also presents opportunity. We can observe the presidential candidates in the crucible of crisis.

Only one of them demonstrates the needed intellect, fortitude and temperament. That is why I have decided to publicly support Barack Obama.

What is needed in Washington is sound judgment and exceptional leadership. Through the years that I've been a businessman and before that an officer in the Marine Corps, I saw what qualities make effective leaders. I see them in Obama: a sharp intellect, stiff spine and steady hand.

Obama's economic plans will restore market confidence and provide a blueprint for a better future. His pragmatic, intelligent economic plan will stop our financial slide and restore the expansion and confidence we knew in the 1990s. Obama's tax relief plans for small businesses and the middle class should provide much-needed economic stimulus.

Obama also has an energy plan that makes sense. He will shift energy use from foreign oil toward alternative, domestic sources. This will create millions of “green collar” jobs and enable us to capitalize on alternative energy. These cleaner energy solutions will protect the planet for our children and grandchildren and free us from depending on hostile nations.

We could not have built Bank of America into the leader it has become without a highly educated workforce. Obama proposes to invest in education to ensure we remain the most productive and efficient in the world. We must take these steps to stay globally competitive.

I greatly respect all that John McCain has done for our nation. But it is Barack Obama whom we need now.
ArticleThat's a fairly large endorsement around here.

Obama expands lead

Barack Obama 50

John McCain 44

Bob Barr 2

It appears that sometime in the last week a lot of North Carolina Democrats who were undecided about Barack Obama decided he was their man.

For the first time in a PPP poll of North Carolina Obama is earning over 80% of the vote from self identified Democrats, and that's fueling a four point increase in his lead in the state compared to last week. He now has an 82-15 lead with voters in his own party. His share of the Democratic vote had been anywhere between 69 and 76% in PPP's previous five surveys of the state.

Republicans have won the Presidential race in North Carolina for decades by capturing anywhere from a fifth to a third of the Democratic vote. If John McCain does not continue that trend he will have a very difficult time winning the Tar Heel state, particularly since Obama is also up 46-40 with independents.

Obama is winning in every region of the state except the Triad, has upped his share of the white vote to 38%, and has a 60-34 lead among voters most concerned with the economy.
SiteMcCain losing NC would be huge.

McColl is huge in Charlotte. Of course, Obama was likely winning the Charlotte area anyway, but this certainly helps.

...NCC and I were discussing one of the stated goals of this [Dean's 50 state] strategy maybe 18 months ago and back then the hope was to be competitive in states like North Carolina and West Virginia which were mostly red but had pockets of blue counties. The hope was that one or maybe both could go for the DNC candidate in 2008 presidential election. So I don't think anyone really hoped for this level of success this quickly....
I'm not sure whether Obama is playing off of Dean's 50 state strategy play book, or not, but either way it seems to me that a combination of Dean's plowing money into red counties in 2004 and 2005, W's 2005 disaster of a year, the GOP's disaster of a decade, and Obama's campaigning for every vote is going to result in the democrats having a new foothold in many, many places around this country where just four years ago they conceded defeat without even trying.

The funny thing about the Ayers stuff is that Obama was only 8 years old.

So what was happening when McCain was 8? The Nazi's took Anne Frank.

Just sayin.

I think it's definitely a combination of those things. I loved the 50 state strategy from the get though.

I think it's pretty clear from the evidence you've presented here that McCain is friends with Nazis.Thank you.
John McCain was at the age that he wouldve called a Nazi that was a family friend "Uncle". Do we really want a president who called Nazis "Uncle"?

I wish Obama would just admit that they (he and ayers) were associates so we can stop talking about it already.

If Palin had been born a boy in Germany in 1920, she would have been a member of the Hitler Youth, you can be sure. Are we really ready for a Vice President who, under different circumstances, could have been a Nazi soldier?

GOP presidential nominee John McCain has past connections to a private group that supplied aid to guerrillas seeking to overthrow the leftist government of Nicaragua in the Iran-Contra affair.

The U.S. Council for World Freedom was part of an international organization linked to former Nazi collaborators and ultra-right-wing death squads in Central America. The group was dedicated to stamping out communism around the globe.

The council's founder, retired Army Maj. Gen. John Singlaub, said McCain became associated with the organization in the early 1980s as McCain was launching his political career in Arizona. Singlaub said McCain was a supporter but not an active member in the group.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20081007/ap_on_...UrNzF_bi6ph24cA

The Latin American affiliate was kicked out of the league. At the time, Singlaub told the columnist the Latin American affiliate had "knowingly promoted pro-Nazi groups" and was "virulently anti-Semitic."

John McCain has NAZI ties.

Furthermore, how would Israel feel if America elected a Nazi sympathizer?

Why does this format favor mccain? He does these townhalls a lot, but it's just a forum for him to give his stump speeches on a variety of topics like any other. I've been to one of these this year already. Nothing came out that hadn't come out in print from his stump speeches at any point to date. Only the current event questions could be interpreted as new, but those always get spun back to old material.

This is my least favorite debate of the season. The "fakeness" of the event just wears on me after awhile. Having "real" people there does nothing to change the message.

Will he actually look at BO tonight? How many times will he use naive?

What's the drinking game du jour?

All kidding aside, this guy is likely our next President.

This might be a good time to put together, oh say, 5 bullet points of things that are going to be cool about having Obama as President.

I'm not looking for big picture things, like how we're viewed as a nation or any of that crap.

Simply 5 things that will make the day to day lives of Americans better 4 years from today than they are now.

I'm being serious here. I won't respond to any of the bullet points. I just want to feel a little better about President Obama than I do now.

Thanks.

- Obama would be a strong favorite in a world leader 3-pointer shoot-out. Well, maybe second to Kim Jong Ill.

One, and this isn't a reason I'm voting for him, but I love the idea that a black man, even half black, could be elected to a country with such a bad history of slavery. It's really a sign of the progress we've made as a country, an affirmation that we're moving in the right direction, and it could be an inspiring thing for many black americans who still are suffering from the remnants of slavery and Jim Crow laws.

1) More Americans will have affordable health insurance2) Our troops won't be involved in Middle East wars.3) America will be undergoing a strategic policy in alternative forms of energy so that we aren't sending our dollars to Middle Eastern (or Venezuelan) fanatics.4) Our federal agencies will be led by people with the education and experience to do the job properly (which is probably the thing I'm looking forward to most).5) When the NBA Champions visit the White House, our President will ask them for a pickup game on the newly installed outdoor court next to the rose garden.

1) His approach to education is miles ahead of anyone we've had a chance to vote for in quite some time. One of the biggest problems in day to day life for the U.S. is our downward spiral in terms of educational accomplishment. He's going to get minimize, if not get rid of, standards based testing which is an absolute failure in terms of establishing educational achievement. He's going to make sure that resources go to teachers and students rather than getting wrapped up in middle management. An educated workforce and general populace is key to our economic and political well being.2) I like his approach to encouraging job creation and retention in this country through the use of tax incentives for job creators and closing of loopholes for those who ship too many jobs over seas. This must be done to keep wealth generation happening in the U.S. and to realize some of the currently unaccounted for cost of shipping jobs overseas in terms of worker conditions and environmental costs that we all end up bearing.3) He will end the Iraq military action soon, eliminating the outrageous cost of an action who achieved its only clearly defined success criteria years ago.4) His approach to energy independence is much more realistic and effective. The goal has to be ending oil dependence period - not just foreign oil, but all oil. Oil is a dead end and finding new places to drill is a side track that delays the necessary and inevitable switch to renewable energy sources - including nuclear.5) He IS directing tax breaks to exactly the people who need them, the middle and lower class. We've tried the trickle down thing and it just doesn't work. The middle class down are the ones who form the foundations of our economy, Obama reduces their (our) tax burden to a greater extent than McCain - especially when one considers McCain's awful approach to health care.

Obama Dramatically Outspending McCainSen. Barack Obama is outspending Sen. John McCain "at nearly a three-to-one clip on television time in the final weeks of the presidential election, according to ad buy information obtained by The Fix, a financial edge that is almost certainly contributing to the momentum for the Illinois senator in key battleground states.""The spending edge enjoyed by Obama has been used almost exclusively to hammer McCain as both a clone of the current president and someone who is out of touch on key domestic issues -- most notably the economy."

Drink to words and phrases for McCain:"What Obama doesn't understand is...""My Friends,""liberal""Maverick""warshington"
Are you trying to turn us into a nation of alcoholics? My Obama ones are"Look" (*only if he starts a sentence with it. "Look, I came here to talk about the issues")"Crisis" (down full beer if "Economic Crisis")"Middle Class""George Bush""Small Business"
"Let me be perfectly clear"

All kidding aside, this guy is likely our next President. This might be a good time to put together, oh say, 5 bullet points of things that are going to be cool about having Obama as President.I'm not looking for big picture things, like how we're viewed as a nation or any of that crap.Simply 5 things that will make the day to day lives of Americans better 4 years from today than they are now.I'm being serious here. I won't respond to any of the bullet points. I just want to feel a little better about President Obama than I do now.Thanks.
It is cool that the Larry Craig party will no longer be in power.

Gotta do a shot for that one.

Here are mine:1. A Black man will be President. Will that end all racism in this country? The answer is no. Leon Blum became the first Jewish Prime Minister of France in 1936, but this only led to greater anti-Semitism, not less. Still, it will be a triumph as to how far this country has come from Jim Crow. 2. Obama may make us popular around the world again. He seems to be revered like no political figure since John Kennedy. I say "may" because a lot depends on how much Obama carries out his protectionist promises to the unions. I suspect he won't, because his economic advisors will tell him how important free trade is.3. We will get out of the disastrous Iraq war. I shudder to think what's going to happen over there, but we can't improve it anymore anyhow. Better to save the 10 billion a month.4. Since I share Barack Obama's views on abortion and other social issues, I will most likely approve of his selection of Supreme Court Justices, who will do more to preserve individual liberty than Bush's choices has.5. If Obama is elected, there is no chance that Sarah Palin will be our president.
