Mods, feel free to delete this if necessary.

However, the reason I feel I should post this is that it seems there has been a pretty dramatic increase in disrespectful, inconsiderate posts lately and by many of the same folks. Yes, they can be ignored and they can be reported, but it's getting to the point where it seems some quality posters may decide to go elsewhere because of it and THAT negatively impacts how good this board is. I know there are MANY posters on here, many good, some not so much, but most have a good amount to contribute and this place is great for discussion. Would hate to see it go in another direction.

Not to say how to run the boards, but maybe some longer "vacations" are in order for some posters and the guidelines for what is acceptable may need to be changed slightly to make a point, at least in the short-term.

I know there's a sticky up top that details what's allowed and what isn't, but perhaps it can be reemphasized or bolded in some form so that there is no confusion. We're all here because we enjoy football and discussion about it, not because we're above other people and feel this is a great arena to belittle others.

Ok, rant over.

:o I liked it better when there was free sharing of thoughts and news about football.Flame wars, and thread bashers just seem to take away from the good info hidden between the posts.I stand with you on this and hope that some people can come back to actually accepting someone's opinion without trying to boost their message-board egos.

See you next week if you want to come back. I don't really care.Tool factor has raised more than the normal August bump. It takes about 1 second to remove people from the board. I don't mind if we cut the board traffic down by 50% if that's what it takes to lower the tool factor. Please be cooler if you want to post here.Thanks.J

:bs: Been a long-time reader of these boards and just recently decided to open an account on these boards due to the perceived classiness and maturity factor not seen on just about any other FFL or football board for that matter. There is an abundance of good info and conversation on this board and your work is appreciated.

Piss off.

Kidding. I don't think this thread should have been necessary but it's sadly come to that. I'm sick of looking at threads for information on a lower tiered player and wading through a half a page or more of people telling me I shouldn't be interested in that player.

Here's a hint - if the player in the thread title isn't someone you care about, DON'T COME INTO THE THREAD!!!

I also think part of what makes this site so great is when people post rumors that happen to come true. When somebody posts something saying they met player x and they said blank, those can be rather helpful.

When the board jerks come storming in and start ridiculing the OP I think it prevents others from posting similar information in the future...

Here's hoping things get a bit better.

I don't care what some may express about free speech or whatever.

I appreciate a site where there are standards of politeness and courtesy, and give a great  to Joe and the rest of his moderators. They work hard, and have created a first class site.

That's a good word, AB.Basically, we want people to passionately express opinions. Just do it without being a tool. The board lives on disagreement. State why you disagree and then state what YOU think. Leave ridicule of mocking of the other poster out of it. Another thing you guys can do is use the report button. When you see stuff going bad, let us know.On the flip side, most of us are grownups. This isn't church and there will be some terse exchanges. So we can't control everything. But most know when they're being a jerk. Don't be that guy.J

 Amen.

If you see a post that you think is inappropriate, report it. At the bottom left of every post, there is a report button. The mods can't possibly know everything that happens in a board this size. Reporting it allows them to know there is a potential problem and then they can, if necessary, take the appropriate action.

Also realize that we get a ton of new people every year. Some come from other places and other boards where this stuff is tolerated and they probably don't realize that it's not tolerated here. For the most part, once they realize how it is here, they fit right in and talk football.

It's always best to report these kind of posts instead of engaging them in the thread.

One of my favorite things in FF is trying to find sleepers that can come out of nowhere and make an impact; the kinds of guys that are either being drafted very late or not at all. I'm in a bunch of dynasty leagues and have learned that one of the best ways to improve a roster over time is to find these guys when "worthless," watch them grow in value, then either hold or trade them for other value.

Posting about sleepers and undervalued players is probably what I enjoy more than anything here. I don't post and argue in the Favre threads or the Patriots threads. Sleepers is my thing. I've tried to share with other FBGs over the last few years my ideas on some of these guys. Of course since these players are fringe types at the time, few agree with their upside and I expect that. And of course since they are fringe type players many don't ever pan out. I expect that too. Also, folks arguing in a reasonable manner why a player won't pan out is absolutely understandable and expected, and sometimes they change my mind about the player.

But just this offseason I've been called guppy and geek and idiot and moron and out of my mind and various other insults for trying to share these ideas. When I say something to the poster about his negativity, I'm a "whiner." It's been a rough last couple of months with some family things going on, and today I pretty much had reached my limit and decided "why bother, I don't need to waste my time doing this anymore." I realized that if I just go back to anonymously reading and not posting there would be a lot less aggravation, and I'd still enjoy doing my FF news reading and finding my sleepers for myself.

So that's what I'm going to do. Read but not post. If it looks like other guys who post minority views continue to get slammed, I'll just stay gone. If things improve, I'll start posting again. But the angst caused by obnoxious and disrespectful people ruin my enjoyment (I know I am too sensitive about that but it's how I'm wired) and I not longer like posting here.

I've talked to lots of guys I know who have something of value to add but choose not to post for this reason. I believe there are a lot of these people out there. I hope the powers that be really do follow through and toss some of the tools that make things unpleasant, because if they don't the tools will take over and the place will eventually become worthless to go to.

Unfortunate, if true.

This reply is so true, but also very bad news for the board. When guys like CP who provide quality information decide to take a sabbatical, the board value goes down. It is already difficult to wade through the muck, but without the quality posts, it becomes much less worth the effort.CP please reconsider and all the insult posters, please stop!

Nice JB, well said, to the point, shows that ownership here is interested and looking out for the people that are here all year and not just in Aug. Good OP GM, thanks.

 :lmao: CLASSIC!
Rene is a good example. He and I disagree (I think) on some of the Favre stuff. He said something I don't agree with. Instead of ripping him, the right thing in my opinion is to ask him to show me some quotes or backup as to why he thinks what he thinks. Let him show me. I may learn something. It's a much better way to have a discussion than to try and see who can "win" an argument.J

And just for the record, my friend here that I compete against in several leagues has taken bad teams and turned them into playoff teams in 1-2 years sometimes even less. CP is so far removed from being a guppy or geek that I have to really hold back when I see folks try and attack him. But CP is very well educated in football and certainly can defend himself.Sorry to embarass the heck out of you CP, but I think you're a great owner.

Joe's right...it's really not that hard to disagree without getting personnel. I rant sometimes, but (as far as I know) I've never made a personal attack. And sometimes when I listen, I find out.....I find I'm just plain wrong :) (but we still disagree on Favre ;) )

 I am hoping everyone reads this thread and follows it.
Everybody?

From this point forward, ok? I have dropped my mission against Marshall, he fell to me in the 5th round in my big, big money league. Let's all get along from this moment on.

:lmao: That is Karma for ya. Good value pick Chachi. I was guilty of calling you and moderated by the opposite names in posts earlier today. Sorry about that. I did it because you two had similar views in the Marshall thread. I won't do stuff like that anymore. I am all in with the be good to each other mantra. I usually am, but I kinda got caught up in it all with all the other bashing going on. It's kinda hard not to sometimes when a lot of others are doing it. I'll try not to get caught up in that stuff anymore. For others like me who aren't usually bashers but can get caught up in the heat of it sometimes, I suggest this: Just take a few seconds to think before you click on the add reply or submit post button. Take a sec to reread what you wrote and be sure it's really what you want to say.

:lmao: I can deny I am moderated, anytime the mods feel like doing an IP check on me and moderated you have my blessing to check and post the truth. Let's hope the goodwill on these boards lasts until the season begins then it takes care of itself.

 gianmarco!Amazing. This very same thought occurred to me yesterday as well, specifically after some of what I read here-

Not real sure if it's an absolute violation, but inappropriate nonetheless.

I know that there is at least one poster in that thread that has been complained about before.

Aw, if I can't poke fun at you for being a blind Cowboys homer, I don't know what I'll do! I'd suggest you figure out the difference between a little ribbing and outright name-calling, because if you ban both you're going to have a tremendously bland, boring board that reads more like an insurance seminar than multiple discussions between football fans. I make no apologies for having a sense of humor, and I'd point out that I joke about everyone here, including myself.

Tatum, I took your's in good humor. No problem there. It was another poster, but I appreciate your candor.

No apologies necessary. I got a laugh out of it actually.

Ok, good. I'm relieved actually. I know my needling can get misconstrued, and that I can go overboard at times. :headbang:

Here, here. I really get tired of seeing what I call Quote Wars™ take over a thread. You know, that situation where two guys argue incessantly over semantics or who-said-what or who-interprets-this-or-that-the-wrong-way. Meanwhile, thoughtful posts pertaining to the actual thread topic are lost among the deluge of quote windows. As soon as I notice a seemingly docile thread get hot, I know it's a Quote War.

More info and thoughtful opinions, less pointless Quote Wars!!

I always enjoy going to other boards and seeing posters there complain that they were banned from FBGs for X, Y and Z and how unjust and out of touch Joe and Co. are. Then I come back here to spend my free time glad those guys aren't around.

:goodposting: No kidding! I'm all for that!!

:nerd:

Ok, I admit I have had a problem with this in the past. When I read something that I disagree with and makes me  I tend to resort to childish tactics (name calling etc.) I'm working on it. Despite the way it may come across in some of my posts, I really enjoy all the different views of this board and appreciate the amount of work and thought many of you put into your posts.

PS.

I'm really just a big teddy bear. And don't hate me b/c of my avatar.

But just this offseason I've been called guppy and geek and idiot and moron and out of my mind and various other insults for trying to share these ideas. When I say something to the poster about his negativity, I'm a "whiner."
I've seen some of those comments directed at you Bruce. It's the biggest negative change on the boards in the last half year --- the rise in direct personal attacks. This is a pretty cool place once those are cut back. It sounds like they will be.
