I have to say though, I was slightly underwhelmed by how the season ended. The build-up was better than the payoff. I can't say I'll be in a big hurry to start S3.

Reading back through this thread around the time of the end of S2, I am not surprised to see that many were pissed about Jimmy getting killed off, but I figured it was coming. I just can't figure out why Nucky essentially gave Eli a pass. It's not like Nucky took the "He's still my brother" approach considering the hate he had for his father.
Anyway, Van Alden is still to me the most intriguing character. Should be interesting to see where they go with him next.
And while I get the Margaret hate, she is basically the 2nd or 3rd main character, so I don't see her going anywhere.

I could live with him. He was fine the first two seasons. The story lines just flat out suck now.

Dexter kills off Rita, show plummets from there.
Boardwalk Empire kills off Jimmy, show plummets from there.
Have we learned yet, Hollywood?

Buscemi is a terrific actor, but I am not sure he has the "it" factor to carry a show as the lead.

Buscemi is plenty fine as the lead, and this show is still done quite well.
Writing probably needs some work, but this could have gone on for some time. I think killing Jimmy was the producers biggest mistake, although I'm not sure if it was their decision or his.

and Harrell the most interesting of all the characters in the show.I'm not nearly as critical as others of the past two seasons, but there have been some mistakes made that cost this show all-time awesome status.

It seems they were determined to tell the story that hasn't been told...but still seems like there was a ton of opportunity to do that with Lucky, Rothstein, Lansky, etc.

He was just so charismatic, the kind of actor that you just couldn't take your eyes off of. It made sense to kill him off, but it was detrimental in the long run. I didn't like where they took Owen's story, he was really mishandled. He was a heat character.Killing Jimmy probably ruined things but at that point in the story it was warranted IMO.

I like Buscemi and I'm glad he's been rewarded with a lead role after carving out a solid supporting career, but he's not a heat seeker like those three were.

Yeah Owen is another good example. Plenty of gangsters died in the 1920s, you could have killed off a bunch of people connected to AC that actually died. Boardwalk Empire producers have created great fictional characters, then killed them off too soon. Seems like that is shtick, because I'm not sure I can think of another show that has done this.

Game of Thrones cycles through a massive amount of characters. I guess that's different because the cast is so huge.

My friend appears mid-season. The part isn't huge but he kills Margaret and one of the children. Can't say anything more as it could give some plot points away.
