While I do really like the Chalky character, I don't know that his scenes this season have been the best use of their time. Breaking out of prison is a worthwhile plot point, but the rest of it doesn't seem to be doing much for the overall story. Maybe it comes back into play in the next 5 episodes, but I'd still consider it a waste. Get to him going through the process of reestablishing himself or being brought low conclusively, don't waste our time on being the good guy in a petty heist. I think we can take it as given that the depression was a lousy time for everyone, don't need tons of exposition on that.

I've been standing behind this show to some degree...but that was a really, really bad episode.
Some stuff happened with Nucky and Chalky. None of it advanced the story. The only two story lines that moved forward were on it's face stupid. The NYC boys are starting a war with the most powerful man in Harlem when they cant even control Brooklin, and Margaret reappears after 8 years for absolutely no good reason at all.

It aint Sons of Anarchy

Have to figure Chalky is going to go after Narcisse. I really hope they explain what has happened to him, and his family in the last 8 years.

One would think, but they are...

  1. spending a lot of time on Chalky with little to no direction and seemingly a world apart
  2. focused on the Dr being an obstacle for the "young" NYC mob
Don't see Chalky and the Dr coming together the way it's going so far, but you never know.

I could do without Narcisse altogether. Was kinda bummed to see him show up in this last episode. The only silver lining is that its involving Luciano and Siegel. Every second wasted on the doctor is time they could have spent on Van Alden and Capone.

I thought Margaret looked kinda good, actually.

Maybe just because I realized she was the jailbait club girl from Trainspotting, and how hot she used to be.

I love Mueller/Van Alden going for broke with his speech to Capone. brilliant. you can't walk into Capone's house and tell him what to do.

I fell asleep the last 15 minutes or so

Anything good happen?

I saw the part about the wife ####### and the attempted hit on Nucky
Nucky threatened Torrio, Lucky, and Lansky. Very menacing.

Looks like the young Nucky scenes are leading up to him delivering pubescent Gretchen Mol to the Commodore. Thinking the sheriff may refuse to do it and Nucky seizes the opportunity. Probably juxtapose that scene with one of Mol getting a lobotomy.

Yeah. That was pretty freaking great.

Didn't expect that to be Gillian at the end. I guess I always assumed the Commodore hand-picked her from some weird early 1900's young girl beauty pageant.

Awesome episode. Wow. Can't wait for the last two.
Where the hell was this the past 3 seasons? I mean it's all a bit rushed but for the most part this has been really good. I think Chalky deserved "more" then 4 episodes of nothing to do with anything and a half cocked run in with the Dr. That said it was a nice send off. It was also nice to see Van Alden get written off in a huge historical moment and for Eli to get his bus ticket home. Michael Shannon was such a great coup or this show it's too bad he was nothing more then a side show other then season 1. The back story scenes with all the young-ins have been fantastic.
