Agreed on MSU's defense. All I can say is no one in the SEC runs the triple option. LSU had what.....5 starters out for the year on defense before the season started. I'm surprised they made a bowl game honestly.

I have my conference calculator open so we can make fun of people's conference by the end of the day.

As usual, the same guys that constantly talk about how stupid it is to care about conferences and constantly complain about how conversations get brought up about the SEC are the same ones who just can't wait to bring up conference talk when the SEC has a bad day. Politicians would laugh at the hypocrisy here.

Regardless, there's a lot of games still to play and people are once again ignoring how the matchups work out to generally be heavily weighted against the SEC (in large part due to their perception as the best conference). Ole Miss finished FIFTH in the sec and they were playing the team that was tied for FIRST in the Big 12. Auburn, who finished in a 3-way tie for SIXTH in the sec is currently playing the Big 10 #3.

It's not like the SEC gets parallel matchups where the SEC #1 plays someone else's #1, their #2 plays someone else's #2, and so on down the list. So even if they're not finishing at the top every bowl season, it's pretty remarkable that they finish near the top every year in spite of that while other conferences typically have the advantage of playing up against them. Imagine if those matchups were reversed and the Big 12's #5 (Texas) was playing Alabama and the Big 10 #6 (Maryland) was playing Mississippi State. What would the games look like then?

When a collection of the 7 greatest teams to ever walk the earth is playing anyone other than themselves, how do the matchups matter?

 
Not sure what freebagel is referring too. During the games we were discussing yesterday we watched the #6 team in the country pummel the #9 team in the country, then the #12 team man handle the #7 team. Are you upset that everyone was bagging on ESPN's hype of the SEC West or something? It's tough to continue that train of thought with the above, especially if you throw on top of that #23 lost to unranked ND.

If you want to straw-man this out into "best 7 teams ever to walk the earth" then that's your own prerogative. The statement that started this whole mess, once again from the people that always complain about having these conversations in the first place, had to do with whether or not the SECW is the best division in football. I agree that they're not on some other level of unbeatable teams or anything, but here's what they did OOC this year.

SECW #5 (LSU) defeats B10W #1 (Wisconsin)

SECW #4 (Auburn) defeats #3 in the ENTIRE B12 (KSU)

SECW #1 (Alabama) defeats #6 in the entire B12 (WVU)

SECW #7 (Arkansas) defeats #5 in the entire B12 (Texas)

SECW #7 (Arkansas) defeats #8 in entire B12 (TTU)

SECW #3 (Ole Miss) defeats Boise State

SECW #4 (Auburn) currently leads B10W #1 (Wisconsin)

SECW #3 (Ole Miss) loses badly to #2 in entire B12 (TCU)

SECW #5 (LSU) loses to Notre Dame

SECW #2 (MSU) loses to ACCC #1 (GT)

So yea, maybe they're not on some other level but they still have BY FAR the best resume of any division in college football, despite playing almost every game against a team better in their own division than the SECW team was in theirs. Again, reverse these matchups and image how they would go. Texas was the #5 team in the B12 and they played their bowl game against the number THIRTEEN team in the SEC and got crushed. Imagine that the SEC #5 (Ole Miss) got to play Iowa State instead of TCU (tied for 1st in the Big 12) and imagine how these bowl records would finish.

Yeah but you didn't factor in the entire Home SOS vs. the entire Road SOS and the entire injury rate for players born in Iate June of 1994. So your entire reasoning is way off BY FAR.
