I was really hoping they could get a W in Detroit before heading back to Chicago. Hopefully home ice will treat them better.
Can I get some input from TV viewers? I don't have Versus so I've had to listen to the games on homer WGN internet radio. The WGN broadcasters are hammering the officials as being pro Redwing. Are the officials as bad as WGN makes it sound or do I need to ignore the homer broadcasters? Also, it seems like the Blackhawks are really out of synch, missing passes, going to the wrong spot, unable to form a cohesive offensive attack, etc. Is this true and if so is it due to Detroit's defense or other factors?

I haven't been under the impression that the officials were pro-Red Wing. Just homerism, I think. And yes, they have been missing an inordinate number of passes, and not just due to great defense. They do seem out of sync.

the point play was brutal last night, both Campbell and Seabrook coughed up the puck that lead to Goals. The Wings forwards react extremely quickly and will pounce on anythign that is available. Osgood was outstanding for the Wings but Habbi had a good game too. It looks like the Hawks are a year or two away, really need to concentrate on getting some better offense at the blue line.
The only thing I saw with the officiating is that Buff shouldn't have been called for a penalty when Osgood took him down. There were a few offsides calls that were missed. The last penalty on the Hawks late in the 3rd should have been a no call.

The top 4 looks to be set in Chicago for a long time...and Barker/Campbell are both excellent on the PP while Keith/Seabrook are a quality shutdown pair who can also contribute offensively. I don't think this is really a concern. The Wings just tend to make other teams look bad better than anyone else.

Good season, team played every game with a ton of heart and they have a ton of talent both up front and on the blueline. Hope you don't make the playoffs next year, or ever again to be honest.

Great year for the Blackhawks. Fitting that it was Detroit to knock them out, but they have nothing to be ashamed of. Should be a great learning experience for all the young kids on the team...and Huet's performance tonight is also a positive sign. Kane's goal tonight was awesome too. He's been miserable for most of the series but he'll be better next time.

Great job Detroit and good luck in the finals. Pretty much showed the 'Hawks how a champion plays the game. Hope to see you next year, if you want to be the best you've got to beat the best. It may be wishful thinking, but I can't help thinking this situation is very reminiscent of the late 80's Bulls coming of age at the hands of the Pistons.

hopefully the Hawk brass ain't content with finishing runner - up in the West. Several changes need to be made before the contracts of these youngsters come up. Can't carry these 2 fat goalie contracts. Need a couple of bruisers for protection and someone besides buff to stand in front of the net. Pretty confident that a string of making the playoffs has begun now just need to get past them wings.

Right now, they have 11 players signed for next year at a cap hit of $36 million. Some of those RFAs will get significant pay raises and they still need to fill out the rest of the roster. Kane and Toews and Keith are also all entering the last year of their contracts and will be getting big contracts very soon. Seems unlikely that this team will be able to be a big player in free agency again this year so they'll need to try and trim some dead weight and keep this young core together.

As far as protection goes, Kyle Beech their first rounder could be on team next year, and could actually be on the same line with towes and kane. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kyle_BeachThey just signed him last week, article on blackhawks site was funny because it talked about his PIM more than anything.

You think they're content with Huet next year? Quenneville sure seemed to prefer Khabibulin this year when both were healthy. Any chance they find a way to jettison Huet and re-sign Khabi?
Huet will turn 34 years old in September and he's under contract for 3 more years at a cap hit of $5.625 million. I don't think there's any teams out there that would be very interested in taking on that contract without getting something else in value so unloading him in a trade would be tough. Buying him out or hoping someone claims him on re-entry waivers also don't seem like great options.as for Khabibulin, he's 36 years old (turned 37 in January) and hasn't played more than 50 regular season games the past two years. I don't think he'll be cheap and I'd be surprised if he was willing to sign a 1-year deal that would go off the books by the time the raises for Kane, Toews, and Keith are due. Not sure where he might wind up, but a team like Colorado could be a good fit.Huet pretty much has to be the guy next year. Tough to give a guy that type of contract and not give him a real shot to be the #1. He played well last night and his regular season numbers weren't bad.losing Havlat will hurt as well but it doesn't seem like there's any room under the cap to keep him unless they decide to trade a young player like Byfuglien who is making $3 million/year.

Agreed, Havlat and Bulin are gone...and that should leave more than enough cap space to re-up the key youngsters hitting FA this summer. Bolland/Versteeg will have quite a few teams sniffing around, but the NHL really hurts teams that sign RFA, so I think they are both pretty much a lock to stay.
