Went up to the game last night. Great crowd for a Tuesday. Had a sinking feeling when they were leaving guys all over the bases, but Kluber only needed one. Lotta great defense on the infield behind him.

Hopefully Clevinger doesn't have to work as hard this afternoon.

Not super crazy about the Kipnis in the outfield thing. I know everybody loves him, but he's having a really bad season and wasn't really good in the postseason last year. I just don't know if we need his bat bad enough to potentially get errors from a guy that hasn't played outfield in almost a decade.

ESPN's Cy Young race predictor just moved Kluber ahead of Sele after last night's game.
Sale has been pitching good too. He has a better k-bb ratio and could have one more start than Kluber going forward. When Sale pitches, he moves ahead of Kluber and when Kluber pitches, he moves back ahead of Sale (in the predictor).  Kluber should be ahead anyhow. Better win percentage, fewer losses.  lower ERA and 3 shutouts to zero for Sale. 3 fewer games that may be 4 at end of season. It would help if some team hits Sale good. Looks like he will have @ Tampa, @ Baltimore, Toronto and  Houston*. Kluber will have Kansas City, @ Seattle,  Chicago*.
Edge to Kluber.

*unless they are skipped to set-up postseasson rotation.

Going for the sweep vs Tigers and win #21....Tribe up 3-1 in 3rd.  Both sides feel the pitcher's aren't getting a fair shake with calls (being squeezed and missing edge calls).

McCann (Det C) starts arguing a ball that he thought was a strike.  Ump gets tired of it and tosses him.  Ausmus comes out and he's tossed.  Replacement catcher comes on and Farmer's next two pitches:

Inside fastball that almost drills the batter

Inside fastball that the catcher "is late to catch" that drills the ump in the shoulder just near the facemask

Ump collapses and game's stopped to check on him.

Looking at the replay, it looks as though that ball was catchable - only that the catcher moved his glove too late to catch it.  I'm surprised the Ump let Farmer or the new catcher stay in the game.  Seems pretty blatant to me, especially on replay.

The whole time this is going on, Miguel Cabrera is jawing with fans behind their dugout pointing, yelling, and telling them to "sit down".

It's a circus out there!!   :lmao:

Tribe now up 4-1 in the 5th.

Indians' 90th win of the season:
2017: Game 146
2016: Game 153
2013: Game 160
2007: Game 152
2001: Game 157
1999: Game 148
1995: Game 129

I'm actually rooting for them to continue this, although getting to 26 to match the record seems like a 5% chance.

Will root against them in the playoffs unless they are playing the Red Sux or Yankees, let's just get that straight now. :bye:

Great team though, I can appreciate the good in the things I hate.

144 game season that year due to the strike, but I get what you're saying.

Wouldn't have it any other way, GB. :bye:

On the Cubs broadcast yesterday they said if you put down $100 at the start of the streak and let it all ride every game you'd be at like 1.5 million right now.   :loco:

Was looking at the schedule to get an idea of how long this fun could last.  4 vs KC, 3 @ Angels, 3 @ Seattle, 3 vs Min, 3 vs Chi WS

So about 75% of the remaining games are vs those with Playoff aspirations (as of this post).  Obviously focus on the first team - KC:

Tomlin will be on the mound tonight.  JT has a 1.93 ERA vs Royals this year. He's up against Junis, a rookie who's done well this year.  However his only other start vs CLE he lasted just over 2 innings and gave up 4 runs.  538 has given CLE a 64% chance to win this matchup.

Bauer is up on Friday vs Vargas. In last two starts against CLE, Vargas has given up four runs each game, going no more than 5 innings. Bauer has been on a roll lately, and shut out the Royals for 6 innings in his last start vs them.  538 has given CLE a 67% chance to win this matchup.

Carrasco is up on Saturday vs Hammel, who is 3-1 against CLE this year with a 3.91 ERA. This should be a good pitching duel.  538 has given CLE a 68% chance to win this matchup.

Sunday = #KluberDay vs. Gaviglio, another rookie that I don't think CLE has played against yet.  But it's Kluber, so...yeah...538 has given CLE a 78% chance to win this matchup.

I'm liking the odds for this next series.  Win or Lose, it's been a fun ride and I'm looking forward to seeing how it ends.

At this point, I'd pretty much consider KC to be toast. They're eliminated from the division title and have to climb over Minnesota, LAA and Seattle just to get to the second WC spot. Seattle is kinda meh to me. Minnesota is the only one I'd consider as a true playoff team right now. As long as they can play good enough to stay ahead of the other three, they'll be in.

Right now, the Indians could end up at 100 wins if they continue to play .616 baseball. Even if they play .500 baseball the rest of the year, they'll be 98-64. Not a bad season at all.

What a game!!!!  Lindor to drive in Naquin with his last strike and two outs in the 9th!!!!

Then Ramirez with the aggressive double in  the 10th and Bruce to drive him in for the win!

Big team effort for this win! Everyone participated and helped get the win. Amazing game for #22!!

Congrats Tribe!   :excited: :headbang:

The game tonight may have been what they needed to get the "momentum" to win another five or six in a row. They've not been pushed much in the streak as far as tight games. Amazing game, Amazing streak, Amazing team!

Best part is they keep getting love from Heidi Watney  and Quick Pitch.

:D

I was wringing my hands like it was the world series.  Scared the dog both times yelling on that Lindor hit and Ramirez turning that into 2.  That was a really fun game to watch.  Gomes with the heads up play catching the lead runner at third earlier in the game was another great play that kept things tight.

I was doing the same!  I jumped off the couch with Lindor's hit and started clapping - waking up my 11yr old baseball playin'/lovin' son in the process.  With everyone else asleep, we sat and watched the 10th inning, both of us jumping and clapping with the Ramirez immaculate double and Bruuuuuuucceeee's walk-off shot.  Amazing game and felt so much like a Post Season victory!  So much fun!!

So it's only taken a 22 game WIN streak for the 4-letter network to actual recognize the Tribe's efforts and give them some props.  Front page of their website - very top article and graphic.  I guess you have to make history to gain recognition over there, unless you're in NY, Boston, Chicago, or LA.  But whatever.  I think the intro to their article was the best part.

CLEVELAND -- Less than an hour after his team broke the record for most consecutive wins in baseball history, Indians rookie Greg Allen left the team's clubhouse and headed down the hall to get some food to take back to his hotel. Cleveland had won, again, this time in extra innings, 3-2 over the Royals, in a wild regular-season game that felt like the playoffs. Allen's entire major league career is shorter than the Indians' 22-game winning streak; he still has never lost a game. Along with a teammate, he walked through the empty left-field concourse, past a Cleveland cop and a cleaning crew, headed out the same gate as many of the fans. A security guard, seeming to mistake him for a lingering fan, thanked him for coming and hoped he'd be back tomorrow.

Allen smiled.  "We'll be here," he said.

What an amazing team to watch, they be fun to watch in the playoffs.  I am proud of my Twins fighting for a wc, but comparing them to Indians requires a big helping of humble pie on my part.  Really looks like the stars have aligned for Cleveland, lookout houston, Boston, theirs a new player in town.

Well, I was wrong about the momentum but not all the amazings!

Tito is probably glad it's over. He can now tinker with his lineup and the pitching rotation/bullpen.

With Carrasco winning yesterday, he joins Kluber and Bauer as 16-game winners. They're the first Tribe trio to do that since 1956 (Lemon/Score/Wynn who each had 20+ wins each).

Kluber with another excellent game cements his place atop the Cy Young race. Sale got hit good a couple nights ago, dropping him back.

Yep, I was starting to get the Golden State Warriors feeling when they were chasing 73 wins and I was just sitting back with a smirk on my face.  Time to get the championship goal back into crystal clear focus.

Fun game last night.  I saw Bruce's single, double, and triple.  Tried to stay up for his next at bat, but couldn't make it.  Sunshine pitched great, and no glove controversy from the Angels.  Cleveland needs to stay in front of Houston and Boston in order to force them to play each other in the ALDS.  I'd rather have MIN or NYY instead.

The nice thing is that the Tribe holds the tie-breaker over the Astros, so the pressure is on them to outright beat us. If we go 6-5 the rest of the way, Houston has to go 9-3. Given we have 2 more against the Angels, 3 against the fading Mariners, 3 against the White Sox and Minnesota, I'd say going 6-5 is very doable.

Going further, the Astros have 2 against the White Sox, 3 against the Angels, 3 against Texas and 4 against Boston. The schedule definitely favors us.

I really like that Hou has to close the season against Bos.  It will make it that much sweeter to watch these two play each other 9 games in a row.   :lmao:

Only 2 behind the Dodgers for best overall record now.  They would have tiebreaker if we end up with the same record. Indians would have it over all the other NL teams.

Houston lost last night, so now they're 2.5 games back for AL's best record.

If the Indians go 4-5 (100-62), then the Astros have to go 8-2 against the Angels, Texas and Boston. Probably not happening.

I know I shouldn't, but I can't help it.....Looking ahead at ALDS matchups.

Hou vs Boston will be fun to watch (having no interest in either team).  Indians have rented space in Sale's head all season, and showed they can beat them on the road or at home.  Houston's pitching is on the decline with all of the injuries, and the Tribe has whipped up on the Astros this year (5-1 in 2017).  Even with the addition of Verlander (see: Sale, Chris), this isn't much of a team to be too concerned with in the ALCS.  Common sense says to cheer for the Astros due to the better matchup on paper (and the fact that I don't particularly care for the Red Sox  :D )

Wildcards:

NYY has one slot on lockdown.  Twins, Rangers, and Angels (with Royals limping in behind them) all have a chance at the last spot.  As the Tribe plays the Twins next week, I could see their October dreams turning into nightmares.  The Rangers or Angels would mostly sneak in - maybe the Royals (but even they will have an uphill battle to get there).

For some reason, I'm more concerned with a possible ALDS vs NYY than I am any of the other teams listed above.  Cleveland owns a 5-2 record vs NYY this year, posting 2-2 at home and 3-0 away.  Yet some of those games didn't include Judge, who is starting to find the ball again within the strikezone.  Gray has tormented the Indians this year, and Severino is looking good as well (vs teams not from Minn).  I'm not sure, but I just feel like this will be a tough matchup in October.  I don't see how we avoid that matchup in the ALDS.

Dre Knott reports that The Flow has been moved to the bullpen for the remainder of the Indians season. Tito envisions using him as a "weapon" - able to come into the game at any time of the game - even the 9th. He made the move now to get Clevinger mentally prepared for the coming post-season.

I was listening to Hammy during the game yesterday and he said it wasn't automatic that Kluber would start an ALDS game 1. If he had to pitch a game 5, it would be with an extra day's rest. If he pitched game 2, game 5 would be on normal rest. Now, this could be him speculating, or someone like Tito told him this on background.

I guess we'll see.

I can see Tito playing a game of chess in the ALDS.  The schedule would be H,H, Rest, A, A, Rest H.  Given that scenario and our pitcher's tendancies, I can see the following rotation:

Game 1 (Home) - Bauer

Game 2 (Home) - Kluber

Game 3 (Away) - Cookie

Game 4 (Away) - Either Bauer or Winner of Salazar/Tomlin (with BP Help I'm sure) - You could substitute Bauer for Game 4 as well.  I think it depends on how Salazar and Tomlin fight for that 4th starter spot.

Game 5 - Kluber

Clev will be good out of the bullpen.  But then that doesn't leave much else in the cupboard, if you think about it.

Starting Rotation: Kluber, Cookie, Bauer, plus 1 of Tomlin/Salazar

BP: Clevinger, JSmith, Olsen, Miller, Shaw, Allen

That's 10 right there.  I don't see Tito going with a 12 man Pitching staff.  That would leave guys out of the ALDS: Goody, Otero, McAllister, loser of Tomlin/Salazar, Merritt.

We could get away with a 3 man Starting Rotation in the ALDS.  Odds are the Tribe will face the NYY at this point.  That last WC spot will go to the team who doesn't lose the most games over the next week.

I thought I heard/read somewhere that Tito could go with 12 pitchers. Perhaps that's changed. I can't see Merritt making the squad unless it's an emergency like last year. I don't particularly feel comfortable with McAllister. Salazar could be good out of the bully if you let him pitch a sim inning first. To me, if Tito's handing out an 11th pitching spot, it's Goody vs. Otero for me. YMMV.

On second thought...

Strangely, this was written after it came out that Clevinger was going to the bully for the playoffs.
