After tonight they go to Toronto for 4 games, the last of which will be their 81st game - exactly half of the regular season. And a good thing is they will have 46 home games left and only 35 away games.

Hopefully there's enough Indians Fever going around now that they'll actually draw at home the rest of the way.

Last time a team won 12 straight without a starter giving up more than 3 ER was 100 years ago (New York Giants).

Also, the Indians 5 starters make less than half of what Justin Verlander makes alone.

Looks great, doesn't it?  :towelwave: :pickle:

Napoli would be putting up Triple Crown numbers if he played every game against the Tigers. The guy has been a Tiger killer for years.

Yan Gomes in July: 1-for-24, 0 BB, 10 K

This season: .169 average, .202 on-base percentage -- @ZackMeisel

WTF happened to this guy? Between him and Mesoraco, one would think that Ohio is where promising young catchers go to die

And then he gets hurt after the team went and had a Boston Market chicken sacrifice to Jobu for him. :hot:

Thoughts on what piece(s) you want to see acquired at the trading deadline? I like the idea of adding Lecroy, but considering that Gomes was a -0.8 WAR and the other two catchers are at replacement, is the investment worth it? I'm not really in favor of trading a Bradley or Frazier for a rental on Chapman (his DV suspension doesn't bother me as he's paid his price). I'd like to see some relief help like Will Smith to help bolster the bully.

Definitely need an arm, or two, for the pen.  We need to replace Almonte on the roster also.

I'm not opposed to trading one of Zimmer/Frazier, but I'd want a bat back as well.  So that's where a Lucroy+Smith for one of Zimmer/Frazier and some other goodies seems ok.  I do worry about how bringing in a catcher mid season would handle not knowing our staff, but that's just because I don't know alot about Lucroy (is he a jerk, easy to get along with, quick study, etc).

I wonder what would be cheaper, Miller+Beltran vs Lucroy+1RP (Smith or Jeffress or Thornburg).

Makes no sense to trade Naquin.  He's helping now and Brantley is done this year (imo, at least from making a big impact).

Chapman seems headed to the Cubs and reports are iffy that they'll even deal Miller.  What other big name RPs might be available?  Street, Davis, ??

If we can get an RP and a bat in separate deals without giving up all our top prospects maybe that's a route to go.  Guys like Bruce, Upton, Markakis, Pearce...

The Mets made no headway in their pursuit of Jonathan Lucroy today, and signs are pointing increasingly toward Cleveland as the destination for the veteran catcher. Lucroy has to sign off on a deal to the Indians because they're one of eight teams on his no-trade list. But Cleveland needs a catcher, and Lucroy would provide a major upgrade.

From former GM of the Reds and Nationals:

The Indians have a legitimate chance of getting back to the World Series with the leagues best starting pitching. With a strong farm system their can be no excuses if they don't land Jonathan Lucroy and Will Smith at the trade deadline. These windows to win don't come often. Just my opinion.

Gotta give up one of Zimmer / Frazier and then a prospect further away.  No issues tossing in Clevinger either.  Sure would be nice to have that bat in the lineup.  Get Smith too.  Hell, get Braun.

Sounding more and more in Milwaukee like a Lucroy trade may be a done deal (Cleveland, Mets or a 3rd mystery team). Most likely CLE from what I am hearing and reading. Lucroy held out of tonight's game because trade talks were progressing and late in the game the Brewer players all left the dugout into the clubhouse, theory being most likely to say goodbye to Lucroy.

Wouldn't think Smith is part of the deal. He pitched an inning tonight.

Every deal GM Sterns has made he has gotten at least one young pitcher back in the deal.
