***OFFICIAL*** Combine Updates Thread (2 Viewers)

NFL Network is kind of sucking...they're showing the guys run their 40's but not showing us their times. What the heck is the point then?
asking everyone the same Q about the CBA has not yielded any insight, why keep asking. Ya got em' there ask different Qs, right?Like Cowher's on now, talk about Randel El?

Height and weight of the top three WR's:

Chad Jackson - 6-0, 213

Santonio Holmes - 5-10 1/2, 198

Sinorice Moss - 5-8, 185

Calhoun only ran a 4.6 ????
I read yesterday that he wasn't going to work out?eta: If this is true, he's going to fall. Speed is supposed to separate him from some others. Burning it up at OSU isn't impressive because their track is notoriously fast.

According to Gil Brandt on NFL.com

Joseph Addai of LSU was fast at 4.37 in the 40; Maurice Drew of UCLA ran 4.43; Andre Hall of South Florida ran 4.43. Even Matt Bernstein of Wisconsin at 260 pounds ran his 40 in 4.89.

Calhoun only ran a 4.6 ????
He falsed on his first try on the first run, and I didn't really think that he got a great start in the 2nd try. But yeah,a 4.65. They didn't show 2nd run.

Addai and Drew were definitely most impressive.

Addai was 4.41 and 4.37 in his 2.

Drew was 4.45 and 4.41 in his 2.

Don't they average the two for their official time? So Addai would be 4.39 and Drew would be 4.43.Livewire has Addai at 4.37/4.37 and Drew at 4.43/4.47.

Either way, it should boost the stock of both considerably.

Calhoun is being reported to have run a 4.51 in the 2nd, so it does appear the false start impacted his 1st run. Still not super fast, but better than 4.65.

Jerome Harrison-- 4.50. Not bad considering the complaint that he's too slow. Today he ran faster than Calhoun. Calhouns second run was much better-- 4.51.

Unofficial RB times from today

Joseph Addai - 4.41/4.37

Mike Bell - 4.62

Matt Bernstein - 4.89

Brian Calhoun - 4.65

P.J. Daniels - 4.64

Maurice Drew - 4.45/4.41

Quinten Ganther - 4.61

Andre Hall - 4.48

Gilbert Harris - 4.79

Jerome Harrison - 4.50

Taurean Henderson - 4.58

Cedric Humes - 4.71

David Kirtman - 4.71

Addai just made himself a lot of money. At 5'11" 1/4 and 214, that 40 time is blazing.

He was already in the 2nd in good portion of mocks, and this should make him a lock for the 2nd with high 2nd round possibilities.

Apparantly DeAngelo has grown in the last month, and is now a full 5'9" even. He also added 7 pounds and is up to 214. That can't hurt his stock too much.

Maroney bulking up to 217 is going to be huge if he can maintain that 4.4ish type speed he showed at their pro day last year. Much bigger than his listed weight.

Will be interesting to see what Norwood does tomorrow - I assume he's running. I see he got his weight up to 210, and after a great Senior Bowl week he could rise quite a bit with a good workout.

This RB class is starting to look on par with last year or better. Going to be some nice late 1st/early 2nd pickups in dynasties.

Is that site 100% accurate? I could swear that the NFL Network was claiming 24 strength reps for Calhoun. How did they dock him 6?

They're now reporting an official 4.40 for Addai on NFL Network.

4.39 for Drew.

Addai topped the broad jump at 10'5" and jumped out of the building with a 38 1/2 inch vert, #1 in that area as well. If scouts weren't evaluating him as a top athlete before, they are now.

Drew had the #2 vert at 36" and was in the top 5 in the 60 yard shuttle.

Calhoun was in the top 5 in 3 cone, 20 yard, and broad jump. He's showing some athletic ability despite a disappointing 40 time.

Harrison looks very athletic as well and is in the top 5 in just about every category.

I was really looking forward to seeing Maroney's time in the 40 but just came across the following blurb at draftshowcase.com:

Laurence Maroney - RB - MinnesotaMaroney came in at 5-11, 217 lbs. Due to a strained hamstring, he will not workout as he said he is at about 75%. He has interviewed with the Rams, Vikings and Colts. The Vikes and Colts are definitely two places he could end up.
Can anyone confirm or deny this report?

NFL Network showing Drew @ 4.39. Mike Mayock (their NFL draft expert) compared him to Sproles. I don't see it other than they're the same height. Drew has what 20+ pounds on him with a huge lower half. I don't think he's a 20+ carry back, but that's not to say he can't be another Westbrook. I certainly don't believe he's a special teams player only down the line.

Quite funny right before Calhoun ran, Mayock said he should have a great time. He gets a 4.65 and then Mayock starts making excuses for him. Calhoun isn't big enough to run a 4.65. Whatever personal opinion I or anyone else has on the 40, I think he really hurt himself today.

Damn... Jackson's second time was an unofficial 4.29... I am guessing this combine is going to help his stock.

WR Chad Jackson OFFICIAL - 4.32 :excited: (he's now WR#1 in the draft)

RB Jerius Norwood - 4.40 (solid.. ties Addai... only Drew faster)

RB Leon Washington - 4.42 (solid, but this track is fast, and I thought he'd be a little better)

WR Marques Colston - 4.43 (excellent for a big WR... awesome really.. he's 6-4 and 5/8ths and weighs about 220... interesing prospect)

WR Derek Hagan - 4.45 (he needed a time like this... maybe he rebounds a little here)

If pickin' the #1 WR was this easy, they wouldn't need a combine, just a track & a stop watch.Impressive? yes. But there's a lot more to it than running fast.

Yeah, but he spent the season running possession routes after spending the previous season as a deep threat. He's also very physical and strong. He dominated the skills competition and had by far... by FAR the best hands there. He's WR1 or it's a mistake. I agree it isn't all about 40s. Others could run faster and I'd still say this 4.32 makes Chad the #1 prospect.

I wasn't too impressed with the drills of any of these guys. Colston and Hagan had some drops. Colston especially. Hagan looked a bit better as he went on.Jackson kept looking like he was "cheating" to avoid drops, but maybe I was just being influenced by Maylock's obvious dislike for him.

I don't like this entire class of WRs. I wouldn't take any one of them in the first round... not even with the Steelers 32nd pick.

Croyle will be a first day pick? I think I heard the announcer say that. Where do you think he'll go then? Haven't heard him mentioned in all the recent QB talk.

I was impressed with WR1, he had some arms to him and didn't struggle being first which isn't easy. Chad Jackson's arms were big. Hass was impressive, looks like a posession WR in drills but that doesn't mean much.

Monmouth NJ guy Wayne Chrebet II?

What was with the QBs throwing the lobs right to em'. Either get rid of the drill or take points off their rating or...I don't know do something. That was annoying as I thought that would be a cool drill to see.

There were a ton of "toothpicks" today. How come, as the game evolves, stronger WRs hasn't hit the college game yet? Geesh it's scary what a Harrison or Woodson hit could do to one of those "toothpicks".

Did you hear that NFLE comment about a QB? I think it was the Oregon one. That's an ouch on a day like today IMO

About 100 players will be chosen on the first day. Most of these gurus are calling about 130 players 1st day, while disagreeing about 20 or so. That means about 150 of them think for sure they are first day, and some of them will be late round 5. The Draft Advisory Board told dozens of these guys they were first day who have very little chance of being first day. I don't think many of the gurus have really tried to do first day mocks. This draft has about 15 major round one talents (a little shallow at the elite level), about 60 typical round two talents (very very deep in this regard), and another 60 typical first day guys. Those estimates take us up to 135 guys. That's one full round of extra depth. There will be some real gems in rounds 5-7 and several UFAs that will make it in the NFL. More than usual.

eta because my response had nothing to do with Croyle, who needs to be QB4 to be certain to go first day. I think Jacobs and Whitehurst may be graded a little higher right now, and someone could get in the mix-- like Gradkowski who is having a nice combine so far.

Jackson - #1 in the post-combine rookie 100 for sure. Does this make the eagles consider him at 14? Norwood - expected him to be this fast, my view on him is still the same.

Washington - He's got good straight line speed for sure, still see him as a super 3rd down back, but not more.

Colston - very intrigued with this guy all week at the shrine game, and this just cinches. I dont think any of the other big WR targets (Stovall, Nance, Baskett) will approach his time. Upside to spare coming from Hofstra...

Hagan- agreed that this helps rehabilitate his draft stock after rough week in mobile.

i still like bilbo as a deep sleeper. since he's a QB to WR convert, i dont think speed is as important for him as others. Carter is a speed guy, this time will really hurt him. Green is stuck as the poor man's Moss, doubt he goes first day now. Not worried about Hass's time, this was expected. He's a gameplay over measureables guy all the way.

rotoworld is reporting unofficial 4.5 for me and CC's boy Brandon Marshall. If this behemoth of a WR really ran 4.5, he'll go no later than the 2nd, I guarantee it.

The top of this rookie class is getting better and better with addai, drew, jackson, and now marshall's good days at the combine.

they are also reporting 4.41 for greg jennings - which could vault him into the first day. I love Jennings as a 3rd round rookie pick.

Jackson to the Eagles? Could be I guess, but they would be grading him over a better player at another position, imo. I really really wish I had seen Norwood play this year (I've seen highlights and a piece of one game). I have a feeling he's the real sleeper in this bunch.

I mentioned Willie Reid in a PM. His time will be very important to Skyler Green. Green got high praise from Tye Hill. He called him the best route runner and hardest WR to cover at the Senior Bowl. You're right though-- 2nd day. I agree about Bilbo. That is pretty slow though.

Chad Jackson is the real deal. I hope he slips to the Hawks but it doesn't look like it will happen now. He is going mid first round.
this guy is troy williamson part 2which is a good thing, they both will have good/great careers in the nfl,imo

Some big discrepancies between these time and other reported. These are from: http://www.atlantafalcons.com/team/article.jsp?id=6921

Wide Receivers

1. Chad Jackson, Florida - 4.32

2. Devin Aromashodu, Auburn - 4.35

3. Derek Hagan, Arizona State - 4.42

4. Skyler Green, Louisiana State - 4.44

5. Will Blackmon, Boston College - 4.46

Brandt (NFL.com):

The wide receivers were speedy. Florida's Chad Jackson was the fastest at 4.36; then Will Blackmon (Boston College) ran 4.45; and Derrick Hagan (Arizona State) ran 4.47

....

The fastest quarterback of the day was Reggie McNeil (Texas A&M), who ran 4.37. Brad Smith (Missouri) ran 4.53.

Sinorice Moss (Miami, Fla.) ran 4.43 for the wideouts; Ben Obomano (Auburn) ran 4.46; Willie Reid (Florida State) ran 4.37; Jeff Webb (San Diego State) ran 4.41.

.

Norwood is just tearing it up.

Height: 5'11"

Weight: 210

40 yard: 4.40

Vert: 36 1/2"

Broad: 10'2"

20 yard shuttle: 4.25

60 yard shuttle: 11.52

3 cone: 6.81

Marcus Vick with a 4.42 40. Enough to get him drafted by some idiot team in the late rounds? Maybe...

Harvey Fialkov, of the Sun-Sentinel, reports University of Miami WR Sinorice Moss came in at 4.34 seconds for his 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine.

That is almost a tenth of a second faster than the time reported on NFL.com. Anyone know what his official time was?

No. And these conflicting reports are bizarre to me.
