NEW: CA has 24,424 confirmed positive cases of #COVID19. 3,171 of those cases are in our hospitals. 1,175 of those are in the ICU. CA is flattening the curve -- but we MUST continue to take this seriously. Stay home. Practice physical distancing.

How they survived while Circuit City (basically the same store, no?) died always befuddled me.  I'd be surprised if Best Buy makes it through.
In store experience sucks but I order a lot from them online. Never understood having 50 sales associates wandering the floor doing pretty much nothing.

Anyone else get "Payment Status Not Available" when checking on their stimulus payment?

https://www.irs.gov/coronavirus/get-my-payment
Yep - here's what the IRS website says:

If you verified your identity and received “Payment Status Not Available,” this means we cannot determine your eligibility for a payment at this time. This may occur for a variety of reasons, for example, if you didn’t file either a 2018 or 2019 tax return or you recently filed and the return has not been fully processed.
This doesn't apply to me at all, though. Filed both years, and my '19 return has already been processed.

Only place I could order a 50' Cat6 cable to work from home and receive it in three days.   All Amazon finds were over 10 days.

STILL not working from home.

(Apparently there are a few things that this company doesn't get done "absolutely, positively overnight!" )

Best Buy's suppliers were actively preparing for its bankruptcy back in the 2010-13 range.  The stock subsequently caught fire, but they just announced furloughs and I suspect they'll be in trouble again.

Didn't Best Buy have (or still have) an online price-matching guarantee? IOW, you saw something for sale online that was cheaper than Best Buy's in-store price ... they would match it if you went into a physical Best Buy location?

Plus Geek Squad service seems to have a significant presence around here.

I guess a good thing is that toilet paper is plentiful in Canada https://www.theglobeandmail.com/business/article-plenty-of-toilet-paper-to-go-around-canadas-biggest-producer-kruger/, there was a mini run at first butt I've had no issues since - got a 12 pack today in my latest online order from our local grocery store.

At some point I see some being traded for the N95 masks Trump stops at the border from coming up here... (yes he did that and I'm only half joking about seeing TP as leverage if this goes on much longer)

Any meetings of 100+ require on site medical staff, a medical plan, and self quarantine at any sign of symptoms.
From where you sit, does this make sense internally, or does it seem like overkill to your colleagues?

In any meeting of 100+ people ... your business is such that one can assume at least one from that group has been to China in recent weeks? Or been exposed to someone who's been to China in recent weeks?

For a group of 100 people who have only been in the U.S. in recent months ... shouldn't be any coronavirus risk at all, should there?
I think this is yout first post @Doug B

Regarding stimulus check. We received our $2,900. I'm still working and business is going great (mortgage) so I've done the following:

 - $500 to my sister who does hair

- $250 to the foundation for one of our hospitals that goes towards childcare, ppe, etc for hospital staff

- $500 to a local non profit that helps homeless teens

- roughly $500 for food, toiletries, etc for a local non profit that is helping the general homeless population in our area during all of this

- $250 to a non profit that helps injured or abandoned wildlife that depends on visitors to their center for a large portion of their funding.

Have the rest and some more earmarked for all of my younger siblings should they need it.

Worst day for deaths up here in Canada  as well. 123 when previous high was about 75.  :(
Over 100 again today. Now eclipsed 1000.  51 of those in my province (Ontario).  We're not trending in the right direction.   :sadbanana:

And just for reference, our entire Country's population is comparable to that of California so they appear small in comparison to the USA numbers. I know most of you know that but just throwing it out there.

I have no idea what the modeling says for WI, but the numbers sure look like they are trending in the right direction. Third day in a row with fewer hospitalizations. ICU cases is basically flat for the last 7 days and total ICU available keeps going up. I assume since there are fewer accidents happening.

Ahh never mind. Stimulus will now go towards a new HVAC unit.

Lovely needing now to have people in our home to replace.
Lemme know if you need any help. I'm in the biz.
Ha....we have to replace one too!!  It's from 2002..original to the house, but on it's last leg.  Replacing a 5 ton unit 13 seer.  Probably doing a carrier (seems like their biggest issues are drain maint from what I can tell)....going to boost it to 16 seer (I think).  Anything else I should consider in purchasing?

@the moops, PM me how you found that quickly. If, instead, it was a two-hour slog ... never mind.

And thanks
Actually just picked page 15 and CTRL-F your name. Saw some "likes" but no posts. Went back a couple pages and you were radio silence. Went forward a couple and wala

Since I've first heard of this virus last month ... I had been thinking that living in the U.S. alone kept me about 99.999999999% safe from ever even as much as knowing someone who catches the coronavirus. Just seems like SARS all over again from a superficial perspective. Guess we'll see.
(OLD POST QUOTED ABOVE)

Oof. That was my second post in this thread, back on page 18     I guess "just like SARS" is better than "just the flu!"  That post was on Thursday, February 6th -- I remember going out to dinner on Valentines Day, eight days later, still not thinking this would really affect anything much in America. Even in mid-February I thought the absolute worst thing that would happen in the U.S. was going to be a heavy contact-tracing effort that would be largely successful. Picking off a lot of onesies and twosies ... maybe a very few 'isolate-able' spreading events at a nursing home or an office. But no sustained community spread.

Man ... did we just get THAT lucky with SARS in 2003-04?

Yes. This is what saved them.

I wonder if anyone ever set up fake web pages to 'publish' a stupidly low price on something, just to see if BB would match it ...

"Hey, look ... Amazoon.com has this same awesome gaming laptop on clearance for $3.99! Can you match that?"

It just depends on a lot of factors really.

1. How long you are going to live there

2. Type of house (two-story, ranch, split, etc)

3. Part of the country you live in

4. Where you set your thermostats

You can send me a PM if you'd like and I can give you some ideas. Also, you can always shoot me your bids and I'll let you know if you are getting ripped off.

Well, crap. I didn't e-file, no direct deposit, and I haven't filed this year for personal, only business. I assumed I was just getting a check in the mail and was going to wait it out, but I'm getting the same message after checking following this series of posts.

Kinda thinking I might have it.

On Sunday, I had some minor chest pressure and body aches. I had a coughing fit that night but I have allergies and Claritin got rid of it quickly. We did walk around our local park that day. Had what felt like a minor fever that night.

Only some body aches on Monday and possibly minor fever

Yesterday was more of the same with another coughing fit last night. Went away with Claratin. Woke up sweating ( I'd say a 4 on a scale of 1-10) moved to the couch and slept some more.

Today has been off and on, mostly feeling a little run down but at times fine, like in waves. Some flush feeling in my face at times and a little chest tightness again right now.

No regular coughing, headaches or any other symptoms.  No shortness of breath or difficulty breathing. Taste and smell still fine.

:6 foot get well hug:

Minnesota with the lowest per capita infection rate.

Probably due to winter weather sticking around, but also perhaps the incredible  park systems that allow for social distancing

My daughter had very similar to this, went through the drive thru testing in Meridian, and got the results back three days later.  Negative.   Get tested GB!

IMHO you need a plateau of hospitalizations, and that plateau has to be lower than your capacity by a certain margin so you won't be swamped if you open up too much. This is the way I see the European countries go about it. What you open is also interesting and here the European countries differ a lot
Been thinking about this.

I'm wondering what mindset most authorities have.  My mindset in posting about a plateau of active cases has to do with eradicating the disease by not opening things up until active cases are at such a low level that the risk of getting it is super low again, and contact tracing/quick testing can stop the spread from ever happening again.

Your post has a bit of a different mindset.  If I'm reading into it right, the goal is not necessarily to stop the disease from spreading completely, but to keep the hospitals from being overrun again.

Not sure anyone knows what the right thing to do is. Wait too long to re-open, you might devastate the economy while you eradicate the disease.  Open too soon and the economy survives this round, but so does the virus.

Thanks bud. I'll let it play out for another couple of days and see where it goes. Not bad right now.Glad to hear about your daughter.

Hope you feel better soon and get through whatever it is.  I have two friends that just beat Covid.  In a weird way, they are now positioned better than the rest of us.  They are soon going to be able to live their life with no concerns, (assuming what we think we know about covid and immunity holds up).

Get well soon!

This was pretty much my wife, but she had a persistent cough to go with everything.  She slept about every afternoon, but the symptoms themselves were controllable with OTC stuff.
