The parents are probably the one throwing the party as they are over it by this point thinking that this pandemic is completely overblown. Not saying I agree - just explaining the logic from the conversations I have had with folks, including a neighbor who threw a bash for 30 last weekend - this is NE ohio FWIW.I get it. They’re young. They’ve been pent up. They probably feel put out. At that age, it’s generally hard to understand consequences, and you’re led by hormones. But man it is such irresponsible behavior. My kids are 4 and 9, but where are the parents in the equation? Isn’t anyone having a discussion about the community’s need to avoid spread for sake of others’ health and minimizing economic impact? This virus ticks up again and it’ll be urgent lockdowns again for all of us. #### them.
I'll look for the tweet again, but the S. Korea night club spreader had crazy spread, but they were able to contain it. Guess how many tests it took? 46,000. We're not capable of doing that.Yes, but taking the party I mentioned going on down the street. Let’s say it started to spread there, and that group starts to spread it in similar gatherings. It takes a week or two for the fire to start spreading, and two or three subsequent rounds of incubation and spread be fire there’s a sudden exponential rise.
Yup. I'm definitely starting to see fewer and fewer masks here. I think many people assume it's all good now that things are officially opening up.As offices open and more public spaces, I’m worried we’re starting at a base of far more virus milling around than two months ago. Worried we’re going to see a real problem once it arrives. People have clearly let their guard down in these parts. Not just the party, but you can see it driving and walking around the area. People closer, no masks, more businesses assuming normalcy, and a false sense of security because of the weather.
I agree, I think psychologically people think it's kind of over. Personally I think this is going to be a major problem. Virus still out there, no treatment, no vaccine.Yup. I'm definitely starting to see fewer and fewer masks here. I think many people assume it's all good now that things are officially opening up.
I'll add: no brains, no situational awareness, no perspective, no self-control, no self-sacrifice.I agree, I think psychologically people think it's kind of over. Personally I think this is going to be a major problem. Virus still out there, no treatment, no vaccine.
Is the same mindset happening in other countries or is it just us? I think I know the answer.I'll add: no brains, no situational awareness, no perspective, no self-control, no self-sacrifice.
We are among the most selfish generation(s) in modern history.
We use Harris. Meyer has been down there forever, so they're a good one. Not really familiar with the others.Ha, that's exactly where we are looking. Are there decent agencies to work with or should I just stick with VRBO/bnb?
Conversation overheard at work...We are among the most selfish generation(s) in modern history.
In my weekly sojourn into the city this morning & walking around at lunchtime it was still 100%. In Brooklyn the only ones without masks are a subset of young males, either solo runners or small groups of guys. Even then they often have bandannas or masks around their neck. You cannot enter any store without one.Yup. I'm definitely starting to see fewer and fewer masks here. They sound like great people.Conversation overheard at work...
Why are we even worrying about nursing home deaths? It's just a bunch of old people that aren't contributing members of society. The poor ones are just a drain, and the richer ones are giving their money to nursing homes instead of their next of kin. Nursing homes are where people go to die, so just get it over with already, to make room for the next batch of residents. This virus is actually doing a good job for the long term outlook for social security.
Well Asian countries were wearing masks with regularity BEFORE Covid. Czech republic took to mask wearing and social distancing quite well. Germany seems to have done just about everything right, but not sure how much of that is the citizenry vs. the leadership, testing, etc. I guess there's always Brazil if you are looking for a comp to make you feel better. Is the same mindset happening in other countries or is it just us? I think I know the answer.
Wow. It takes a certain callousness and egotism to think that. Not sure I even know how to describe the person who says it out loud. Ghandi said that "the true measure of any society is how it treats its most vulnerable members.Conversation overheard at work...

I’ll dole out my disgust elsewhere, thanks.Because they are spreading ideas that are dangerous. It should disgust you too.
Was listening to Dr Rhonda Patrick talk about Vit D and how that may be something of a deterrent for this virus. Made me feel good as that is one of the benefits of all of this. I am in the sun a lot, shirtless.
Also on tipping I've had friends who work in places where they share tips with co workers and the owner gets a % of it as well which is total BS. Waiters and Waitresses get minimum wage if that and make most of their money on tips which I think a lot of people don't realize. I tip wherever I go I might tip more for better service too.Yeah, been thinking about this. Maybe the solution to restaurants enticing workers back who are making more on unemployed and facing reduced tips due to lower capacity operations is to change the model: pay workers a living wage, increase prices, eliminate tipping. Seems that now might be the right time to make that shift if you are a restaurant owner trying to:
Anyway, just a thought.
- Entice workers back

- Explain to your patrons a new pricing policy that makes lower capacity somewhat feasible (ie break even in the near term)

The thing with PS5 is it's something I'm gonna use anyway if I'm working or not . I can get most of the streaming services such as HBO, Amazon, Netflix on it already so even when I'm not playing a game it's going to get used no matter what. Plus given we don't know how long this will last and I've made some extra money over the past few months it's something I was gonna save up for anywayLots of us. I just said to my wife this morning "you know, I now realize we used to buy a lot of useless junk". It's just the two of us, and we both work, so we always had a modest disposable income, and we'd have amazon packages at our house every other day, my wife would go to Home Goods on Saturday and buy whatever silly decoration caught her eye, etc. That's ended, and neither of us miss it one bit - we spent money almost out of habit and boredom. I'm surprised at how much we've been able to save.
We're not going back to that. That said, the PS5 you're contemplating is not a bad "we're staying home more" purchase. I won't bat an eye at buying the new Xbox when it drops.
Don't know if they even knew I was there. They were a couple of twenty-somethings. Great quote, BTW. Both my parents have been gone for years, but my mom's sister is pushing 85, and it sucks that I can't visit her. I mean, I could, but I won't. She lives in senior housing and is willing to have us come over, but no way I am risking being asymptomatic.Wow. It takes a certain callousness and egotism to think that. Not sure I even know how to describe the person who says it out loud. Ghandi said that "the true measure of any society is how it treats its most vulnerable members.
This is common knowledge. I'm pretty sure that literally everyone, or at least the vast, vast majority realize it.Also on tipping I've had friends who work in places where they share tips with co workers and the owner gets a % of it as well which is total BS. Waiters and Waitresses get minimum wage if that and make most of their money on tips which I think a lot of people don't realize. I tip wherever I go I might tip more for better service too.
I absolutely promote mask wearing. Yes, the part of his story where they don’t wear PPE in the hospital is weird. But I can see the overall perspective though with case numbers like that in a county. But don't you think, of all places, a hospital/OR facility should be wearing masks and not trying to shake hands during this pandemic? Set an example.
I mean, even you think it's not warranted, it's still the recommended practice.
What's next...."I'm gonna use my pocket knife for this surgery....that's how we do it round here, boy."
I can’t blame these people. They’ve had their senior year of high school ruined, their graduation, their prom (it matters to a lot of people), and likely their first year of college all screwed up. It sucks they are being irresponsible now but most did their part and paid an emotional price.I get it. They’re young. They’ve been pent up. They probably feel put out. At that age, it’s generally hard to understand consequences, and you’re led by hormones. But man it is such irresponsible behavior. My kids are 4 and 9, but where are the parents in the equation? While some are being irresponsible, we have to remember, these are kids around 17 years old. Ham mentioned his 4 & 9 year olds, but at those ages, kids still listen (for the most part). How many 17 year olds are gonna stay in the house for months when their parents tell them to? Especially when they consider themselves invincible. I don't know the exact number of teenage deaths in the US, but in my state (CT), we have the 3rd highest death rate (behind only NY & NJ), and no recorded teenage deaths. It's like trying to lecture your son on abstinence when he is dating a supermodel, or wearing a helmet while driving... in a car. Remember also, these kids very likely don't know a single teenager who has even gotten seriously ill with this virus. Let's say your kid goes hang with their friends, and promises to social distance and keep their mask on. How long will that last when they are out of your sight?I can’t blame these people. They’ve had their senior year of high school ruined, their graduation, their prom (it matters to a lot of people), and likely their first year of college all screwed up. It sucks they are being irresponsible now but most did their part and paid an emotional price.
This was your evidence of almost 100% of people being fed up with Cuomo? The nut jobs who were attacking the hyper partisan fake news shoved down their throats from News 12 NJ?https://nypost.com/2020/05/16/angry-new-york-business-owners-demand-end-to-coronavirus-lockdown/
I promise I wasn't there lol
It's difficult listening to 2 people with such poor verbal skills. I made it about 2 minutes.
Yep. My son is really struggling right now so I mostly took the shackles off him.I can’t blame these people. They’ve had their senior year of high school ruined, their graduation, their prom (it matters to a lot of people), and likely their first year of college all screwed up. You really believe a lot of people don’t realize this?Waiters and Waitresses get minimum wage if that and make most of their money on tips which I think a lot of people don't realize.
Judy Mikovits, eh? The Plandemic fraudster?
We aren’t in any more trouble than we were a month ago, at least if you are taking necessary precautions. I could give a #### all what people do because I’m not taking those risks and am staying home. I understand I am fortunate to work from home but hopefully those who can’t can space themselves out and wear a mask. If people who are ignoring this catch it, well I am long past the point of sympathy and am almost at the point of Darwinism now.Taking any emotion out, we’re in trouble. Starting with a higher base of cases than March, with people emboldened by nice weather and pent up desire to let their guard down.
So far, does look like sunshine and warm weather slow it down marginally, but cases are still growing here in Texas. Because we don’t have a consensus understanding of how science works in this country, my budding optimism is being replaced by realization that because of the way this has been managed, we are looking at another shutdown in July.
Talk to someone in HR. They should know what is going on.I have a meeting at work next week regarding new protocols and I am being told we are aiming for a June 1st opening at 50% of what we used to do.
I work in Ambulatory surgery in the Arizona desert.
* I do have some concern that the "meeting" next week will just screw up my unemployment.![]()
It is amazing how many people like to play Russian roulette. This group includes my own mother, who refuses to stay home and continues to see visitors everyday.Taking any emotion out, we’re in trouble. Starting with a higher base of cases than March, with people emboldened by nice weather and pent up desire to let their guard down.

Only this time, more will defy and many will die because of it. Going to be some hard months.
Oh that's right, I forgot that we are America and thus incapable of learning from other countries. Hell, given your comment on this specific topic and others' comments on related topics I'm beginning to think we Americans aren't just incapable of learning from other countries, but that we don't even know those other countries exist. After all, no way we could've seen this virus coming after it: decimated Wuhan THEN brought China to it's knees THEN sent off alarm bells throughout Asia THEN ravaged Europe THEN...we were fine, no biggie for US because we are different and what happens elsewhere has no impact on the US. Yeah, I like your world better too. Unfortunately it isn't the one we live in.Hey customers i am now charging more money because my workers are unhappy about coming back due to them missing out on the extra 600 bucks of unemployment they were getting in addition to the state unemployment.
Terribly sorry for the inconvenience.
I don't know. I just know what the Dr. said on the podcast that he'd become infected. Also - exactly what is funny about that @jobarules ?This is the guy that tested negative 4 times, yes?
Just a note that you can't always take these kind of things at face value. It portrays air travel as more dangerous than it likely is.I don't know. I just know what the Dr. said on the podcast that he'd become infected. Also - exactly what is funny about that @jobarules ?
why though? It's a negative use of time and energy and won't change anyone's behavior.Because they are spreading ideas that are dangerous. It should disgust you too.
I don't think one guy contracting the virus says too much about the safety of air travel.Just a note that you can't always take these kind of things at face value. It portrays air travel as more dangerous than it likely is.
Sure. It was just part of the interview that I gave cliff notes for. I'm just relaying what he said.Just a note that you can't always take these kind of things at face value. It portrays air travel as more dangerous than it likely is.
not trying to be a jerk, man, but that Mikovits lady is a quack who got fired for lying about her work. Read up on her, I'd take anything she says with a shaker full of salt.
This is a silly rant.Oh that's right, I forgot that we are America and thus incapable of learning from other countries. At risk of getting political, the problem with conservatives is that they can't imagine the world any other way than the way it is now. The problem with progressives is that they are far too idealistic when imagining that new world. I don't think that last statement is unfair for this forum as it isn't "political" in the sense of parties and I think most everyone can agree with it even as they draw the lines in different places. Anyway, happy to delete it if it deemed inappropriate, but did feel it was worth adding.
Yup. Yesterday was my first day back at work since our official opening for curbside with limited capacity for people to enter our shop for dropoffs and pickups only. I probably had to give out 5-6 surgical masks to people who tried to enter without face coverings. Many people are confusing the re-opening of some of our economy as marking the "beginning of the end" of covid. This could not be farther from the truth. The only reason our economy is starting to re-open is because of the economic dire we faced because our entire government (I'm not making this political--anybody and everybody in charge could have done better or more regardless of what party they are with) failed to take this thing seriously enough to pay proper attention to it early. People were taking the virus more seriously and were being more careful when they were locked down at home than they are now--which is extremely dangerous.Taking any emotion out, we’re in trouble. Starting with a higher base of cases than March, with people emboldened by nice weather and pent up desire to let their guard down.

I am in the Orlando airport even as we speak. It’s a ghost town and there is a high degree of compliance on the mask wearing front. The plane is going to be about half full. Will wear a mask the whole time and I have liberal amounts of hand sanitizer at my disposal. So I have a flight to Florida end of July, wondering if I should drive
The struggle is real my friend.Oh no! He did your kids react when they found out Disney World was closed?
