Slowly coming to the realization that I wont be "dining-in" at any restaurant, going into any store without a mask, or traveling to any crowded destinations until there is a vaccine. :( And I think most Americans agree. The rules and regulations are just window-dressing to appease/regulate the vocal minority.

I still feel like the people that are at most risk aren't being directly informed on that. And I can't really wrap my mind around why not.
Nursing homes seem to be getting the message, but those not in homes and outside their lifespan do not seem to. In fact, anecdotally, the older the person the less likely I tend to see them doing anything at all to avoid risk.
A world with a plateaued and constant case count, and declining death count can exist. If we are smart about it.

I really don't want to post in this thread, but I have said it was worse than the flu and that I got it in early February late January. Tested positive for antibodies 2x. I got death threats in this very thread. People in here are not kind. This is killing less than than the flu, which I've always maintained and it is true the media is lying and certain people have been fear mongoring in this thread from the start. I'll probably get another month long vacation. But people need to wake up. I really don't understand how any FBG isn't tested by now cause you can get antibody tested.

so my wife bought a 1080P projector and a 120" cloth screen the other day. I rigged up a frame from PVC and a suspension system to hang it up on my back porch. I think we are going to start hosting movie night once a week or so for my kids and their friends. Everything is outdoors, and the kids can bring their own lawn chairs if so inclined.
Especially now that new releases are going straight to rental, this will work out fine.

yup. honestly it suits me as I don't like crowds. football may be my only exception (Broncos coming to Carolina and Atlanta this year!); we'll see how that plays out. may be a case where we wear M95's and go thru a full bottle of sanitizer in 3 hours.

Well I think that is very local. I took the family out for sit down dinner at a nice Italian place. We had our own booth. Capacity was limited. Could not sit/stand at bar area. Closest table was 6+ feet away. No masks.

Can you link the death threats? I've never seen anything like that here - this is a genteel place and if that did happen I hope a big hammer came out.
Also, not everywhere has antibody testing readily available. As far as I know I can't get one.

Yea. Because they have the lowest number of cases and deaths in the state. No ####. No one lives up there.
Wait for the numbers to go up dramatically in the state in a couple weeks.

Any temperature checks upon entering? Maybe some kind of look-over by a host or something.
I am curious what happens if someone comes in with an obvious common-cold type illness -- sniffly, plenty of coughing. Would a proprietor or restaurant manager intervene?
EDIT: I did want to point out that the scenario (in red) you laid out sounds reasonably safe IF the "no masks" part described diners only. I wouldn't feel comfortable yet with unmasked service staff. From my own personal experience -- which, yes, is anecdotal -- it's definitely a thing in the service industry not to let "mere" common-cold symptoms cause a missed shift.

I posted in the supporting restaurant thread about my experiences. No temp checks at all.
I also do not believe most American's will be going out without masks. I totally appreciate anyone that wants to go out with one all the time. And even more so the people that are not sure what to do with young children. I totally get that. But, from what I'm seeing the masks are going away sooner rather than later.
Also, there is nfw there is going to be another full scale lockdown with law enforcement.
I hope there is a vaccine soon, I really do, because I just am not seeing a mass change in thought overnight catching on. Oh, and I know it's not cool to post political stuff in this thread, but this thing is completely political.

When a person claims that the coronavirus is the flu and that more people die from car crashes every day (link), I don't think it's unreasonable to interpret those statements as lies.
Also, when a person claims that they are "out of this thread for good" -- only to come back and post in the thread a month later (link) -- doesn't that make them a liar?

I've posted a few times in various threads here about how rarely (pretty much never) I've heard public coughing/sneezing over the last two months or so. Maybe one of the side effects of the lockdowns is to tamp down infections of garden-variety rhinoviruses and such.
But anyway -- perhaps that will be kind of an unsung frontier: How will the "publicly sick" be treated in the short and medium terms? Used to be, in most jobs, "just a cold" was nowhere near sufficient cover to take a day and leave coworkers and/or bosses in a lurch. So, generally, "just a cold" people were generally out and about not just at jobs, but in retail, groceries, drugstores (natch), school events, recreation, etc.
Is that general "just a cold" ethic going to come back at some point?

Review: On the table, poster 'bucksoh' has stated that he received death threats from other posters on this website. That needs to be addressed. Full stop. I've been posting here since 2001 and I haven't seen a death threat. If that's happened to you or anybody, it needs to be fleshed out now.

Did they at least keep their distance when speaking? See, this kind of stuff is one of the reasons I want to know a lot more about "mysterious" breath transmissions across a room. And servers generally have to lean over you a bit to lay down plates and pour drinks and stuff. To me, I'd MUCH rather them wear masks and ditch the gloves -- I'm not going to inhale stuff they've touched like plates, glasses and silverware ... but I am going to breath their exhalations when they've been in close quarters serving me. :(

I don't think you should be conflicted at all. I mean, what is this guy guilty of? Faith in God? Wow, what a terrible guy. I mean, the story states that even though he was a doubter, he was abiding by the rules. So, wtf?
Conversely, should we feel compelled to dunk on everyone who was erring on the side of caution who doesn't catch this virus or really get sick in any way?

I understand the concerns and if I lived near a hotspot like NOLA I would be likewise leery. Duval County (roughly a milliion people) is basically averaging 20 new cases a day. Folks around here are ready to bust out. I'm trying to slowly reopen. I went to Mass for the first time in roughly 2 months Sunday morning. Outdoors, people spread out. No communal wine, no Sign of Peace, no collection plate passed around(large baskets as you exit). I felt much more comfortable outside than their socially distanced indoor options.

2. I'll argue against that...some. Not all states were aggressive and the list of "essential service" providers was pretty suspect in most places.
I get what you are saying, think there will be a spike up as well but also think we can manage it. Hope you're wrong and I'm right, not trying to argue just differing opinion.

Been thinking abouy #2.
Here in DK we shut down hard in March and brought the R0 back down under 1, actually to 0.7 per the estimates (this week estimating last week, always). After about a month we start to open up a few things, right around that time we learn that the R0 has crept back up to 0.9, why? No one had an explanation. Anyway, the bits that should open up opened, (kindergarten and school up to 5th grade). The government had chosen the stuff they were advised had the least risk. All trends, cases, hospitalizations, ICU beds, ventilators, deaths keep dropping and there is more thought put into what's more dangerous and what's dangerous. Political negotiations ensue, a second batch of stuff is opened (social distancing is maintained through it all). In the mean time, the R0 has dropped back down to 0.7, despite the kids going back to school.
So, what I think is going on is that we are still learning where and how this disease spreads. And that we are using what we learn to hypothesize on steps forward, and learning from that.
Hopefully, with all the different approaches to closing down and opening back up we'll learn how to live with covid-19 until we have a vaccine, well knowing that this may take awhile, and likely that there will be setbacks.
I don't think this will be a sprint, this will be at least a 5K if not more, and that YMMV, what works in Denmark may not work in India or the US or Brazil but that doesn't mean we can't learn from each other because knowledge and science will get us through this better than conjecture and feelings.

Agree with the highlighted 100%. I just hope that is the case here. We have a whole lot of "my freedom" folks that "suffered" through a shutdown and won't tolerate another, at least not well. I contend we know a lot more now than we did 3/1/2020. Let's use that knowledge to open up responsibly. I think we can do this and do it right if we just don't trip over ourselves out of the gate.
