Ran into my first "non masker" and it made me more angry than someone who doesn't want to wear a mask.  Here it's been pretty close to 100% compliance whenever I do go out.  All stores have no mask no service etc.

So I'm in Wawa to get my daughter a snack after practice.

There's some 20ish year old girl that has a mask on but she pulled it down so she could sip on her drink and talk on the phone (speaker no less) while waiting for her order.

I almost wanted to rage
Lol thats not an anti masker

Ok not sure I'd rage over someone taking their mask down to drink and talk on the phone but whatever. Pretty sure Fauci did the same thing.
Not in the middle of a small store with people standing around. It was just typical selfish behavior

You couldn't wait the 2 minutes to go outside to talk and drink

And you guys apparently don't read

"I almost wanted to rage"

I haven’t gone in a store yet and not seen someone not wearing a mask. And masks are “mandatory” in my state

Its disgusting

How much exposure do you think there is from 2 minutes of talking on her phone. Stop acting like this is the plague.

Well my wife's friend brother is in rough shape dealing with covid.   You know how he caught it.

His friends went out for wings and he declined. So his 5  friends bought him wings and dropped by the house.   They were in the  house for approximately 5 minutes.

One of those 5 tested positive and this guys caught.

So excuse me for caring about my safety
maybe he got it somewhere else.   You don't know

Is your daughter practicing with a mask? Is she social distancing during practice? Its amazing how you don't care about your safety in that occasion because its something you care about.

Well I wear a mask at practice.

She social distance at practice

She uses hand sanitizer after every inning

So don't lecture me on caring

Does she wear a mask at practice? Were you wearing a mask at the store?
She wears a mask if in the dugout and can't be more than 6 ft away but typically she will stay 10ft away

Yes and I would if it wasn't mandatory

Hitting she doesn't anymore. That's the closest riak

And I made her stay in the car

bottom line im pretty sure the chances of you getting sick because your daughter brings it home from all the practice and sports she's been playing is MUCH higher than the two minutes the not hot chick was talking in her phone. I just think its hypocritical to complain about one and be ok with the other.

so if you wore a mask at the store and at practice the risk is very low

@shadyridr

Listen I get my chances are very low and I'm not concerned.

My whole point was my first "mask encounter " with some selfish 20 year old.

I'm not actually worried about catching it.

I was more just relating that freaking people suck. And it was the first time during this whole 6 months that I saw it first hand

The fact this ####### couldn't wait 2 minutes to walk outside while people are around was all I was saying.

Yep people suck. Ive seen it quite a bit and just roll my eyes. Not worth almost flying into a rage about IMO. I dont even think what she did was so bad. Ive seen people blatantly walk into stores without a mask.

I’m with everyone being overly cautious and even going to excessive lengths especially to protect their family, I do some crazy things myself. But we all have the realize that we can take steps to reduce our risk but will never eliminate it. One idiot will increase your risk above zero but extremely unlikely to make a measurable difference.

In the example mentioned of the girl taking her mask off to take a drink and talk on her phone, there’s several hurdles to clear:

-She needs to have COVID

-She needs be at a point of the infection when she’s is contagious.

-She has be producing significant droplets while her mask is off.

-Those droplets need to be aerosolized and reach you.

-If it reaches you, the droplets need to get past your mask.

-If they get past your mask, the droplets need to get into your respiratory system with enough viral load to cause an infection in your system.

Yes, it is possible but highly unlikely when it’s one person. It’s a different story if the entire store is like that. Or the entire city. Or the entire state. Or if it’s a more direct exposure or a known positive person.

If we continue to stress ourselves out about minute exposure risks or trying to prevent everything we will either drive ourselves crazy or burn ourselves out and making mistakes. Some venting of frustration is definitely warranted and also necessary for the same reasons as above. All we can do is take the needed precautions to protect ourselves and our loved ones and hope that everyone else does the same. Certainly not calling anyone out especially the person who told the story but just in general.

Every time I go into a grocery store there's at least one person, but usially 2 or 3 that aren't wearing masks. The times I've made eye contact with any of them it almost looks like they're waiting for someone to say something so they can go off. Pass.

I just usually shake my head and go about my business. Im not confronting anyone about anything, its not worth it, especially here in Florida, aka the Gunshine state.

As previously stated, I didn't think I'll catch it. I'm not stressed out, Was just "angry" at lack of courtesy and "unneeded risk" .

It was merely the lack of common courtesy to sip on her ice coffee while the store listened to her phone call with her mask down, in an area where up until this point I didn't see one person not wear one, that was all

The jump to conclusions mat is ready to go :)

Yeah, this.

It's a very small percentage of people not wearing masks in public around here, but of those that aren't, a very high percentage look like they are just begging for someone to say something. Most look unstable. Can't imagine what good could possibly come from confronting them.

As I mentioned, I was not calling you out, just using your example for a bigger point. I even said it’s healthy to vent about frustrating experiences.

Thank you. But it's the same people over and over again. For months now. Can't you just ban them permanently? As soon as they get off timeout it starts right back up again...
Some were suspended. But it's the same story. Everyone wants people suspended permanently. Until it's somone they agree with and then it's the OTHER person who needs to be suspended permanently. The back and forth vitriol and whining and hypocrisy (usually the people reporting and complaining the loudest also post things just as far over the line as the people they report) and bad behavior is incredibly tiring. In a time when I don't know if we'll even have a business to support these forums this year.

I've asked repeatedly for people to please be more cool and it's mostly ignored. Super discouraging and big reason why it seems the forums are very much in doubt going forward.

Zero interest in discussing it further as this conversation too goes exactly the same way every time. It's always "the other" side that needs to be more cool.

I get that. Makes sense. We all need to be cool to each other, especially now.

I did like the idea in the other thread of offering a long term subscription to try and help you guys through this mess. I'd be on board with that.

To get this thread back on track, it at least looks like things may be getting slowly better. Daily new cases seem to have hit a peak a couple of weeks ago and are slowly dropping. The 7 day average on daily deaths also may have hit a peak within the past week as numbers are coming in a little lower. Let's hope that these trends continue, and that school openings don't cause another spike down the road. I have also seen reports of more antigen testing being deployed. The best tool we have right now (other than masking up and social distancing) is testing with fast turn around times. Waiting 19 days to get a test results make these tests practically useless.

My mother in law test came back negative.  However, she had to do test herself so not sure how accurate it is.  My wife thinks it was a false negative.  More importantly, she is feeling better.  It took 12 business days to get test results here in Arizona.

Yea! on your MIL feeling better.

Boo! on the "12 business day" turnaround.

That was me - and it made me question why I even bother paying attention any more to the numbers coming out of my area.

2 recent stories from 2 different acquaintances who don't know each other.  WTF?

- woman went to one of those drive up testing stations.  She input all her info in the kiosk in line, then proceeded to wait for about an hour and wasn't that much closer. She got out of line and left without ever taking the test. She gets results back telling her she is Positive for Covid.  SHE NEVER TOOK THE TEST!

- woman is a nurse, so she took home 12 at home tests and did them all on the same night and submitted them the next day.   Results came back for all 12.....5 Positive for Covid.  7 Negative for Covid.    Ummm ok.

You'll never believe what happened next!

First one is lying, second one is because the take home tests aren’t very accurate. There have been a ton of people claiming that a friend signed up for a test, never took it and later got positive results. But when the claims were investigated, the friend was no where to be found or the story fell apart when scrutinized.

The first one has happened.  Locally we had someone sign up and not get tested.  They received a letter from the health department that they tested positive.  The health department says the letter was a form letter and that he received it because his doctor had diagnosed a "probable" case.  His test was not counted in the daily totals.

I've heard this story several times from different people. Its always a friend of a friend.
