Leading grocery chain in our area is cutting hours. Normally open until 10.

Today is gonna be nuts there

@Publix: To better serve our customers, give our store teams time to conduct additional preventive sanitation and restock product on our shelves, beginning Saturday, March 14 we will adjust store and pharmacy hours companywide to close at 8 p.m. until further notice. https://twitter.com/Publix/status/1238632442560499713/photo/1

My son works at Publix and gave us the heads up - said it’s been a madhouse the last two days.

And while on the topic - I’m not sure what to do - he and my second oldest both work part time while in HS doing retail.  I’m completely torn on whether to have them ask off or not during the time school is out.  Anybody else dealing with that or have suggestions?

To our customers and associates:

Whenever our communities need us, Publix always strives to be a source of help. Publix has remained in close contact with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and other federal and state agencies since January to monitor developments and updated guidance on coronavirus (COVID-19). I’m writing to share with you the actions Publix is taking across our entire operation to safeguard the health and well-being of our customers, our associates, and our communities.

Sanitation. Our routine cleaning and sanitation standards already meet CDC guidelines. Additionally, we’ve put in place a heightened disinfection response program. We’ve also suspended food demonstrations in our stores until further notice.

Product availability. We are working tirelessly to have the items you need on our shelves. We have applied purchase limits on some key items to allow more customers to get what they need.

Alternative shopping options. Customers who need to, or prefer to, avoid public places may take advantage of delivery or curbside pickup of groceries and other items. Visit publix.com for details.

We encourage you to visit the CDC’s website for up-to-date information on how to keep your family and yourself safe. Meanwhile, Publix will continue to focus on keeping our associates healthy—and our stores open and stocked—to serve and support all our communities.

CEO, Publix Super Markets

As a board member of my Chamber of Commerce, we are going on the offensive trying to keep local businesses supported. So I figure I'd post some things here too for your own communities.

• Gift cards: even if you dont want to dine out, go buy a few gift cards now for you local fav restaurants so they have some income, and then go dine once this blows over and things are back to normal. Some of our restaurants are offering bonus GC's if you buy one right now.

• Look for businesses that deliver, or at least offer curbside delivery. Some bagels stores are offering call ahead ordering with curbside p/u. Pharmacies too are deliverig your meds curbside if they dont have a drive up window

• If you are on "work from home" status, now is a great time to do those car repairs you were putting off b/c you couldn't be without your ride.

• Many smaller locations may still have supplies that the larger big box stores have long run out of

• Back to restaurants, some have removed tables to add extra 'social distance' between patrons.

Any other examples you are seeing in your business communities?

Took inventory today.. Just ran numbers, I feel comfortable we have at least 6-7 months of food with 3 full meals a day composed of a fairly interesting menu (not just rice and beans).

Breakfast: A mix of eggs (powdered), bacon, pancakes (w syrup/honey), oatmeal (w fruit or honey).

Lunch/Dinner: Range of canned soups/stews, plus frozen proteins (steak, ground beef, chicken breast, pork loin, cod, salmon, shrimp) and some canned meats. Throw in 24 MREs and two Wise 60-Day "Meat & Poultry Supply Buckets.

Sides are a blend of canned veggies/tomatoes/beans, frozen veggies, rice, pasta, powdered potatoes, Mac & cheese, etc

Not to mention all needed seasonings, sauces, cooking oils, etc.
What I finally realized:

This is like planning for Memphis in May for you.

When is the friends and family dinner?

Who’d you book for the acoustic act?

Someone at my office has a headache and sore throat after being in NYC over the weekend for her birthday.....

We are WFH but she sat in my office on Wednesday for a call.

Our school district is closed but they are offering grab and go lunch and breakfast for all students. There are quite a few food insecure families around here so that’s pretty awesome.

Apologies if this has been posted and I missed it (hard to keep up with this thread) - is there a good source or link to find out details about the deaths in the U.S.?  I’m very concerned about my parents - I’ve told them to stay indoors and I can bring them what they need but they can tend to be stubborn.

If you go visit them, make sure you wash your hands.

8YO kid at my GF’s daughter’s school has tested positive.  All four cases in Ventura County have been tied/traced to recent travel, apparently.

Apparently you’re supposed to wash your hands long enough to be able to sing the “Happy Birthday” song to yourself twice.

My quality hand washing percentage is low.  :bag:
I'm bad at hand washing too....my new rule right now is "anytime I change locations" as much as I can. So if i'm at my house and go get pizza, I'll wash my hands in their restroom (home to pizza). Then when I get home, I'll do it again. At least for now

If they arent listening to current info, you will probably have to edit some old Donahue footage. They will listen to that guy.

https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/cases-in-us.html

Total cases: 1,629

Total deaths: 41

Jurisdictions reporting cases: 47 (46 states and District of Columbia)

I truly am not trying to make this political in any way but they are Rush listeners - he has them convinced this is some liberal scheme to get Trump out of office.  And that’s the last I will say about it in this thread.

Mucinex huh? That’s surprising. How does that help with this?
Mucinex's brand is basically built around guaifenesin... an expectorant.

With COVID being a dry cough and no sputum production I don't think that's needed?

They did expand adding products with other ingredients like Dextromethorphan HBr, (cough suppressant made popular by Robitussin DM)... but taking a product with Guaifenesin + Dextro just for the dextro is just as dumb as people who take Tylenol PM to go to sleep (unnecessary Acetaminophen).

Ironically there is zero need for an expectorant with COVID.

There ain't nothing coming out when I cough on this stuff.  It for sure helps lung pressure.  Quickly too.

Interesting. What are the active ingredients of what you're taking? I wasn't aware guaifenesin acted in that capacity (bronchial dialator?)

My brother and sister in law both work at the hospital (he's a radiology tech, she's an RN) - he tells me the medical community in general feel like it's already been here and has infected millions since Dec. Tons of people who thought they had the flu may very well have had this.

You don't say.

It wouldn't be Memphis in May if you weren't here to follow me around Like a puppy dog (although you're doing a pretty good job of it in this thread)

When is it time for the next stage where you get belligerently drunk, annoy half the team, then cap it off by a stumbling over your own feet, splitting your face open? ;)

That helps explain WA.

I read that the CHinese Ambassador was claiming China got it from US.

I'd love to believe this, if for no other reason than what it would mean for the death rate. But sounds like hope rather than anything based on facts.
