So many thoughts. I’m fighting to keep people employed or at least paid so they don’t suffer. I’m fighting to keep my wife sane and my kids safe. I’m fighting to complete the refi on my Brooklyn rental I started a month and a half ago. This is vital as my tenants could fold. I’m fighting to remain stocked up as more and more local businesses here shutter. 

Thanks for keeping me informed. Hanging by a thread here good buddies. I know we will come out the other side. I’m nervous about the state we will be in when we do.

Interesting. Unsure if these medicines work for sure ... but somebody in high places must be convinced that they do.

 
I apparently broke protocol in the grocery store yesterday. Ran into one of our anesthesiologists. Now this is a guy with whom I work very closely with almost everyday. He’s the floorwalker and I’m the OR charge nurse, so together we set the operating room schedule throughout the day. If I’ve got the virus, he has it and vice versa. I said hey Ted and went to shake his hand. Dude acted like I tried to grab his crank.

I don't know the real answer to your question, and I assume the 40-80% figure is on an 18 month timeline.

But China's definition of a lockdown is far different than ours. 

And all this is easier without those damn civil liberties. I'm assuming China doesn't have a HIPAA, and I assume they were one of the places that used an app to track the movements of positively tested patients to help with intensive contact tracing. 

And of course, testing. We had almost a full quarter of a heads up. And we still don't have enough tests for all the people that have symptoms. No progress will happen until we can test people without symptoms, on a massive scale with a quick turnaround on results. 

But we spent a couple months pretending it wasn't happening, so here we are.

There are no shortages of estimates, one I remember from earlier is that eventually 70% of the world's people are expected to get it.

The key points for why it will spread so widely are that no one has immunity to it, the R0 transmissibility number is 3.something (one person will give it to 3 more people), the spread of C19 will happen exponentially, and there is no vaccine for it.

As for the lock down... it will help some as a delaying tactic to the spread, but every person that is not following it is potentially furthering transmission.

Sadly there is ample evidence that only a small percentage of Americans grasp the seriousness and scale of what is happening and will happen.

Well you figure if we have a few Celtics, a few nets, people in Congress, people in the White House, it’s already all over the place they on the east coast.    Someone in your family is likely to have it.     Which means even on lockdown unless your family is being over the top like others it means you probably are gonna get it even on lockdown.  Even if you do take out or accept deliveries....  you can’t avoid it.   The only real question is when.   And whether that means a whole heck of a lot.

Also you know who doesn’t give a #### about Covid-19?  My stupid cats. I thought about that last night when my wife spent 15 minutes Clorox wiping the food and litter amazon delivered. Ignorance really is bliss.

So to be clear you want everyone buttoned up inside closed doors and not have access to exercise or fresh air? 

The grocery stores should be closed too right now, do you know the amount fo germs being spread inside these food facilities? If you didn't take warning and gather up a month or two of supplies than tough noogie and and we aren't admitting you into the hospital or provide ventilators, that should be the spirit of folks. 

I'm in my 40s, most of the Tennis group is older than I am, just how Tennis shakes out, a lot more Seniors than other age groups. I asked them if they felt any nervousness and got a lot of laughs but you're welcome to your opinion, I'm sure you feel you are justified and 100% right to say it with such conviction.

Meh - good news, but not great news.

I was thinking ventilators, but these appear to be n95 masks.  Still very positive news for healthcare givers.

Everyone is waiting for someone else to be the first. Seems stupid but I’d be willing to bet there will be a bunch that follow immediately after the first.

Our governor, John Bel Edwards, spent a good five minutes spelling out all the things people could still go out and do.

The main effect of his order, hopefully, will be to get all the old-school white-collar offices to quit insisting everyone come in to work. Try some teleworking, it’s flippin’ 2020 already.

Gov. Mike DeWine's administration is enacting a stay-at-home order as the number of cases in the state spiked Sunday to 351.

He said the order includes things he's already been asking residents to do, such as stay at home except for essential needs.

It also includes a list of businesses that are classified as essential and allowed to stay open. The order is reasonable, he said, and keeping people at home and preventing transmission of the virus can help buy time so that the state's hospitals do not become overwhelmed, he said.

But without enforcement... :shrug:  Maybe cops are going around looking for low-hanging fruit at parks and such, dunno.

Just anecdotally - I am surprised at some of the resistance I am seeing locally to work from home - for people who can legitimately be as productive at home as in an office.

Funny you say this.  I have always said that Mother Nature is a bit of a ##### and will self regulate humans over populating or treating it too poorly.

Agent Smith has it right in the matrix.  Humans are a bit of a virus to earth and when we start to infect it too poorly it’s own self defense mechanisms will start to kick in.

with everyone lamenting about global warming (and I am one of them) I often don’t take it as much from the perspective of “poor earth” but more of the perspective of “we are going to pay for this”. Thousands of years from now earth will be fine.  How much of our species is here is a whole other question.

There's been an unspoken but clear reluctance by Gov. DeWine to go to that level.

With each move they make, it does go more toward that.

I think it will need enforcement behind it to get a significant percentage of the population that's not already doing so to take it more seriously and truly reduce non-critical public activity.

They've been very thoughtful about all that they've done, and seem to be keeping their early pledge of transparency as well.  I remain thankful daily for that.

It makes me wonder what behind the scenes advice they may have been given or concluded about not being able to be stricter with enforcement, e.g. that there will be too severe of a backlash from varying groups that would take valuable police and government resources away from managing this crisis.

yeah, in my haste, didn't mean to sound like I was panicking. Totally not. However I wanted, for myself, to grab a few things so that hopefully I don't have to leave my home at all for several weeks. And I wanted to do that now, rather than fight the inevitable ensuing crowd later. I think folks might be a tad sensitive up in here and adding tone to posts that's not there. 

At any rate, got a couple cases of beer, and a couple of fifths of good bourbon, so I'm ready to hunker with my two kids.

This sentiment has been expressed repeatedly, but I’m thinking that it doesn’t apply in this instance as much as it has in the past with other types of sensationalized stories. For example, with daily briefings from the White House’s coronavirus task force, and regular communication from the CDC, much of the information being consumed comes from experts in the federal government. Moreover, various governors and county and city government representatives, along with representatives from the medical community are communicating regularly with citizens in their various states and municipalities. I feel like I’m getting a ton of information, and almost none of it is from the “media.”  I would think that’s the case for many others as well.
