Gov. Ron DeSantis will turn safer-at-home advice into an order, but only for Southeast Florida, he announced Monday.

At a press conference at the drive-thru testing site at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens on Monday, DeSantis announced he would be signing an executive order urging those in Miami-Dade, Broward, Palm Beach and Monroe Counties to stay home through “mid-May.”

My dad has been sick for a few weeks.  My mom called me today to say he was about to die.  I said some final words to him and he could hear me but was unable to respond.  He passed a short time later.

Now I have to find a way to help my mom get through this while she’s in Florida, I’m in Michigan and the Coronavirus is in full force.  I want to fly down to help her but also don’t want to inadvertently infect her by catching it while in a plane or the airport.  What a mess right now...
so sorry for your loss.  is driving an option?

im very sorry for your loss and offer my sincere condolences

That's pretty cool. Was Jesus one of the players? Because if so, that's totally not fair.
Jesus is not in the pool.  Even if he was, without Simon of Cyrene as his point guard (literally carrying the load), not sure if Jesus would have achieved his goal.

I ended up picking Elijah (five-tool guy: fire, water, endurance, attitude, never dies) over Ehud (a lefty that should take the field by surprise)

And whoever put the laughy reply on there (hopefully an accident) needs to take it off.

Interesting.  Will be thrown out of court on 1st amendment grounds and wouldn't surprise me if Tampa ends up cutting a big settlement check to the pastor.  Though the dude is an idiot for calling for in-person services right now.
The 1st Amendment is not absolute.

Human sacrifice is against the law. Churches must comply with building and fire codes. Just because it’s a church doesn’t mean it’s automatically immune to the law on 1st Amendment grounds.

Our local USFS District just closed until SEPTEMBER 30th, unless rescinded earlier. Campgrounds, trailheads, etc.
Are you in WA?  Last week one of our huge hiking areas - stretching from Seattle to Vancouver, BC - announced a closure until 9/30.

This response is like a million times better than the "yelling fire in a crowded theater" thing.

Very sorry for you and your family. Wishing you strength in this difficult period.

We’ve got our top scientists on the job. Unfortunately, prototyping didn’t go so well for one of them.

TOP MEN!!

I think everything we've seen so far has completely dispelled the heat myth.
I was going to post a link to a site no one in here considers reputable so I didn't but the gist was "Coronavirus CAN spread in warm and humid conditions as scientists find a 'superspreader' in China passed the virus to EIGHT people in a swimming baths where temperatures reach 106°F"

Speaking of, anyone know if @Henry Ford's OK? Been gone for a few weeks and I think he lives in New Orleans...
Kind of you to wonder. Several people I know have tested positive, including a lawyer who’s spent quite some time on a ventilator but is getting better.

Really sorry to hear this skillz.

To put it more specifically, general laws of neutral application are constitutional even if they incidentally burden religious expression.  See, e.g., Employment Division v. Smith.  Federal laws are subject to an additional level of scrutiny under the Religious Freedom Restoration Act, but RFRA is unconstitutional as applied to the states.

terrible news

I would definitely not go to an airport.  There are not many cars on the road and gas is dirt cheap, I would drive

The board is diminished with your absence. Hope you reconsider and potentially take the tact of boycotting the PSF and instead post in the FFA. I think I speak for all (most) by saying you improve this place. Glad to see you nonetheless and hope you stay healthy and safe.

I've been advocating for a freezer in the garage for years but my wife has always been against it. Whenever she would ask "why do we need a huge freezer" I would respond either "zombie apocalypse" or "I want to be a serial killer when I grow up" or "weren't you watching that dateline about the happily married couple whose wife disappeared"  or "I want one"- none of which were apparently the correct answers. However, thanks to covid19, we have a freezer being delivered on Tuesday. I am hoping she is now a little more open minded to my suggestion we get the Tesla Cybertruck - also good for the zombie apocalypse.
We have had an extra fridge/freezer in the garage since we moved in this house 13 years ago.  It was the fridge from our old house.
Fridge for beer and the extra gallon of milk and juice boxes and random overflow/bulk items.

Freezer for pizzas and meat and those tube freeze pops for the kids.

Definitely help...in this case its just now back to mostly stocked after the storms that blew through at the beginning of March killing our power for 3 days.

Helped scoring some meat from a friend who had an in with a restaurant distributor and we split an order at wholesale cost.

Sorry to read of this, man. Condolences.

I know Chicago to New Orleans is about 13 hours by car. Not sure where you are in Michigan or where your mom is, so I punched in Detroit to Pensacola, Jacksonville, Tampa, and Miami. 14.5 hours, 15.5 hours, 17.25 hours, and 20.25 hours, roughly.

We'll see...  You might be right but until an actual news org publishes it I would treat it with a little caution.  Daily Mail is out for clicks and publishes whatever will generate it.  Just saying be a little wary of that org GB

I got a small fridge with the top freezer years ago for the garage when we moved to NC. A year or so ago got a new bigger inside fridge and moved the kitchen fridge to the garage since it was way bigger. Just had to get the compressor fixed (known LG issue, guy said new compressor was way better) in January. So glad it happened already. Having two fridges with freezers is really nice for stocking up.

Henry, that's a darn shame, but you're a grown man and I won't consider telling you where to spend your time. We've disagreed on plenty in the past but I can tell you that nothing meant much more on this board than your estimation and that of a few others, even when I was fit to be tied, even recently recounting one of our debates.

I can say that I'd once left a "Henry Ford has left the board..." couplet with sadness once under the premonition that you would indeed someday leave, or had left for a while. We'll miss you. Stay safe. I'd pass along email, too, but this is public. If for any reason you ever need an ear or someone to break down the idiocy of some newfangled right-wing argument, you feel free to PM me or ask, okay?

Best to you and your loved ones in this trying time.

Apologies if this has been posted before, but here's an excellent video of Dr. David Price (critical care pulmonologist caring for COVID-19 patients in NYC at Weill Cornell Hospital) about the essentials of COVID-19 and common sense things you can do to protect yourself (it's about an hour long video, but key suggestions start at about the 10 minute mark):

Spain just updated final numbers for the day:

7,846 new cases, 913 deaths. You could make the argument that they are having a worse time of it than Italy.
