I’m sure this didn’t start out as an experiment. They were just bored and goofing around farting into test tubes when their supervisor walked in.So much wrong with this...
- For those who don't know the metric system, 5 cm is roughly 2 inches. If your nose and mouth are within 2 inches of someone's ###, you better be having sex.
- Why test without pants? Do we have an outbreak of streakers I haven't heard about?
- The doctors colleague can fart on demand? And how did the doctor measure the amount of each of the 2 farts?
Can you show the math for this stuff or link where you got it. It makes no sense to me.aggregate <> rate <> percentage

That's a good study, and thanks for doing the legwork on your estimate. This means that I would estimate the mortality rate at 0.5%
Pretty sure he means where did you get that 12% figure.Sorry - not trying to be snarky: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Infection_rate
Ok, thanks. Would love to see inputs into equation as even the hardest hit area in SD does not have case per 100,000 close to areas of NYC. I don't really buy you have a 12% chance to get infected in SD. If you work in that Smithfield pork plant you probably do but that is not the risk for all of SD (or even entire Sioux Falls area).Sorry - not trying to be snarky: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Infection_rate
Understood, but you need to then progress to slide 3. That's where the other things I listed including contact tracing are listed as "Core State Preparedness Responsibilities".See the 2nd slide in link - Gating items don't cover testing for anyone other than healthcare workers. So you can move to open up without testing and tracing. I don't really want to get to in depth on on the good and bad of this plan here as feel like it is more PSF stuff but just to be clear the plan as presented is not widespread testing and tracing before opening up. Hope that isn't too political as I am just conveying what plan says.

Yup, I read the whole thing. That is what they want/suggests States to do. It is not a step to open though or requirment and really appears just to be lip service to testing and tracing which they punt to states because they don't want the job/can't do the job.Understood, but you need to then progress to slide 3. That's where the other things I listed including contact tracing are listed as "Core State Preparedness Responsibilities".
The problem is that there is no definition of what's considered appropriate. And that lack of specificity is what will leave governors on their own when to decide if they're ready or not. It's likely going to lead to some controversy.
Yep that's the way I see it as well. Makes me wonder why Fauci and Birx are on board. My guess is that the capability to meet those vague responsibilities is too far off. And the compromise is to start laying the framework for some businesses to reopen provided they take some pretty significant steps. It's where we are today given the weaknesses exposed in the tests we've manufactured so far. Both in terms of quality and volume.Yup, I read the whole thing. 100*(1411/884,000) = 0.16%. Your numbers are off by two orders of magnitude.Sorry - not trying to be snarky: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Infection_rate
This is dangerous and irresponsible. Idaho is probably a state where they can start to think about phasing back in. So what do they do? They go and jeopardize all of that progress with this type of behavior. Not realizing that staying at home stopped the transmission of the virus. The very thing that they are "protesting" saved lives.Hundreds rally at Idaho Capitol to protest Gov. Little’s stay-home order
Attendees were “encouraged to follow social distancing procedures,” according to a press release from the Idaho Freedom Foundation, but most didn’t. The crowd gathered closely and engaged with a few counterprotesters; many were not wearing masks, but were carrying guns.
After the speeches, some of the crowd marched down Capitol Boulevard toward downtown Boise.

Several hundred protesters showed up at the Idaho Capitol on Friday afternoon waving flags and signs while protesting — and proudly violating — Gov. Brad Little’s stay-home order amid the coronavirus pandemic.
The Disobey Idaho rally, hosted by three conservative groups — the Idaho Freedom Foundation, Idaho Second Amendment Alliance and Health Freedom Idaho — advocated for reopening the state for regular business and featured Rep. Tammy Nichols, R-Middleton, as emcee. Among the other speakers were Republican Reps. Chad Christensen and Christy Zito, and a few business owners.
“All they’re (Idahoans) being told is you can’t do this, and that’s not how it works,” Nichols said.
Holding signs that read “my liberties are not yours to take” and “freedom is essential,” among other things, the crowd chanted “we do not consent.”

I’m in the same boat starting MondayI'm sure it has been discussed already, so for that I apologize, but what are the consequences for employees of organizations large than 500+ that don't qualify under Families First Coronavirus Response Act?
Mrs. SLB is being told she needs to go in to work or else she's fired and will be denied unemployment benefits. Neat company.

Agreed. Testing and contact tracing s/b program led and coordinated by the federal government. Crazy to make that a state by state thing. CRAZY!Yup, I read the whole thing. Did this kind of stuff happen in Italy? Spain? Here in Michigan they were waving their guns and confederate flags. The far right is far out man.
Sounds like a great jobs program to me - Hire people to do the massive tracing we need to do.Agreed. Testing and contact tracing s/b program led and coordinated by the federal government. Crazy to make that a state by state thing. CRAZY!
Don't know. But do know that anyone waving a confederate flag will be treated with extreme social distancing by yours truly.Did this kind of stuff happen in Italy? Spain?
Sincere question. Just trying to put these isolated incidences in perspective
Psssht. I'm pretty sure we have that number of swimming pool deaths each year. And sure. If we're willing to accept 1-2 million dead we can skip all that.
We'll never get good stats in Africa for positives, deaths, etc. - just not enough infrastructure. Same for places like Bangladesh, Philippines, etc.More of the same, worldwide, at covid worldometers. News cases will exceed 75,000; deaths over 8,000 (with a sudden new reporting of about 1,200 deaths in China). As alluded to by others, I fear we're only seeing the tip of the iceberg due to limited testing. Djibouti cases jumped 25%; Somalia and Tanzania both spiked by 50% (with cases less than 200). The Chicago Tribune today had a blurb out of South Africa about the very limited testing in Africa. The article noted that Africa is a couple/few weeks behind the curve. It also cited one projection of as many as 10 million serious cases. I don't know the source (they did not mention the source), but you get the idea: In many (all?) countries, numbers are still under-reported, and we have parts of the world, such as Africa, that could still explode with cases and, then, deaths.
If the Stanford study is correct testing is useless. In that case PPE, social distancing, and hopes for pharma are what we have.Demanding that the economy be opened without a plan and without wholesale reliable testing in place just continues the spread of the virus. Its that simple.
I’m sure it’s been posted before but could you link to it?If the Stanford study is correct testing is useless. In that case PPE, social distancing, and hopes for pharma are what we have.
Cant really tell but it looks like people are staying apart.
What would happen if instead of calling it the Covid virus, we renamed it the Covid Plague. Think that might shake things up for the hard of hearing?Hundreds rally at Idaho Capitol to protest Gov. Little’s stay-home order

Nah, they'd just say "The Covid plaque? What did I win."What would happen if instead of calling it the Covid virus, we renamed it the Covid Plague. Think that might shake things up for the hard of hearing?

How about these fine folks in OH? Looks like a Dawn of the Dead remake.Cant really tell but it looks like people are staying apart.
I hate everyone.
Masks and keeping their distance you say? Umm, noAll I can add to that is that I hope they're all wearing masks and keeping their distance from one another. Unfortunately they're probably not. Hopefully the great outdoors is helping mitigate some of the risk. Not what I’m referencing. I’d say the protestors on the streets in Minnesota and Michigan are rushing into public life. We’re seeing calls by prominent voices to deny stay at home orders or guidelines.
And holy ####Masks and keeping their distance you say? Umm, no

No one has ever successfully developed a coronavirus vaccine. Some combination of herd immunity, targeted social distancing/quarantines, and phased returning back to work are likely the only way we're going to be able to live with this disease as a society.Sand said:This is wonderful, if true. Putting on my epidemiologist hat, which I've kept in the closet for just this occasion - we only get through this three ways: herd immunity, vaccine, or a ridiculously good therapeutic. The above would indicate that herd immunity may be where we end up, just by nature, well before a vaccine can be developed.

Boise has a long history of peaceful protests on issues from all sides for a long time. We are down to 22 new cases per day for a week now in the state. 30% of all counties have had zero cases. And these jokers are allowed to do what they want because they brought their guns?
