Official Cowboys Offseason Thread. 4th pick overall (1 Viewer)

With the U.S. becoming more and more friendly towards marijuana, will the NFL change their stance?  If so, when?

What is going on in Dallas? Hardy won't be back because he's a monster. Gregory is suspended for substance violation and now Demarcus Lawrence is TOO.

So can we assume that this now assures that we go Bosa at # 4 ?

IF SD takes Tunsil, we can also see who is willing to pay the most for Ramsey.

CLE got a nice haul for that # 2 pick.

How did we get back to Bosa because 1/2 are going QB???

Ramsey still going to be the pick, assuming he doesn't go #3 to SD. Nothing has changed.

Jerry isn't dictator anymore, I would like to believe they aren't going to change their draft board because of a 4 game suspension.
IMO its not about Jerry being Jerry.

Its likely that both of our starting DE are out 4 games.

I am not a Bosa fan. Much rather take Ramsey or Zeke. Would even be satisfied trading down a few and get Lawson and an extra 2.

I'd rather take Ramsey as well, but what I meant is that altering your draft board because of 1 or even 2 short term suspensions is foolish and more like something Jerry would do.  If they do end up taking Bosa, I would like to believe it's because they have him as BPA and the suspensions wouldn't be a factor.

Chargers are trying to trade their pick to teams that want Ramsey.  The Eagles  and Chargers were in trade talks too until they decided to trade up to pick two instead.

I doubt any team would trade up for Tunsil since several teams rank the other potential first round OTs (Stanley and Conklin) as better values at the 10 - 15 pick range with   Decker available later in the round along with Spriggs who the Ravens have been interested in.

I expect there will be two or three more trades in the top ten picks on draft day.

I hope we are smarter then plugging a need (Bosa) into a spot, due to 2 knuckleheads actions. Take the BEST player....and it's NOT Bosa.

I think Buckner is higher on our board than Bosa, if the FO decides to go DE hopefully they trade down a few spots.

correct me if im wrong, but Jerry doesnt control the draft process, and hasnt for a few years now, right?

Here is how you can tell what is happening in my home on Thursday evening:

Draft Ramsey - High fiving and toasting with a Crown and Ginger. Might even be a Rick Flair.....woooo.

Draft Zeke - Will be shock, then smiles, then Crown and Ginger. Maybe a piece of cake too :)

Draft Bosa - Initial anger, will be quiet for a while, let it sink in and after a bit, I will be ok.  Will have the Crown and ginger with a beer chaser and a couple Advils.

Draft Tunsil. Surprise and confusion. No Crown, just 3 quick beers. Smiles.

Draft Jack. Utter disgust and disappointment. I will go to the store to get a big bottle of Johnnie Walker and drink it all, so I can re-create what Jerry is feeling like.

Trade down: Happiness, depending on the haul. Tequila shooters to calm my nerves until we pick again.

Draft Buckner:  Call Best Buy, as my TV will have a remote go through it. Tequila shooters, Johnnie Walker and beers. Not wasting any Crown on Buckner. Grrrr....

I really like Ramsey but I dont know if he is any type of "missing piece" for this team. The lack of a pass rush makes the CB and Safeties look worse than they really are. I like the combo of guys we have. I would love to see a better pass rush. There doesnt seem to be a dominant pass rusher in this draft. I really, really don't like Bosa. This guy seems like he has bust written all over him.

My theory on having a top 5 pick is he better be a guy that keeps you from drafting there again next season. Does Bosa do that? Doubtful. Is it Ramsey? Maybe. The secondary wasnt the problem in 2014, the pass rush was. Is it Elliot? possibly but the running game wasnt the problem and the guys there are more than capable with McFadden/Morris/Dunbar.

There doesn't seem to be a top 5 player that this team needs in this draft. Not getting a QB. Not getting an elite pass rusher. Trading back and grabbing a pass rusher makes perfect sense to me. Extra picks, especially if there is a 2nd rounder in the offer, is a great move. Deforest Buckner later would be ideal to me.

I am still so pissed about Gregory/DLaw. I haven't been this angry with this team since trading two 1sts for Joey Galloway.

In my opinion, if Ramsey is there, we have to take him.  I understand the need for a pass rush but this draft is deep with pass rushers and Ramsey is clearly one of the best two players in this draft (along with Tunsil).  The problem is that SD most likely takes Ramsey as their OL woes are mostly isolated to the center position and OT is not something I see them burning a #3 on.  I initially thought it was a lock that they would take Tunsil but after researching, it doesn't seem likely.

So it's very likely we are sitting at #4 looking at the last elite player left but not having a need for him.  If that happens, we have to trade down.  We HAVE to.  I'm not in favor of taking Buckner or Bosa here with such a deep DE draft.

Trade down with SF to #7 so they can take Tunsil.  Then see what #5 and #6 bring.  It's very possible we still end up with Buckner/Bosa.  If not, trade down again with a team looking to jump ahead of other teams to take Stanley (looking at you NY).

In the above scenario, we could trade down twice, pick up a metric ##### ton of picks, and still get Zeke, Hargreaves, Jack, etc.

Also, if Dallas trades out of the top 10 they set themselves up nicely cap-wise down the road.  And we all know the Boys have been struggling with their cap number the past couple years.  If we don't get Ramsey, there are several players I'm fine with that we could probably get outside the top ten.

From an article about the Bears at #11 on the Chicago Tribune's website:

"The fifth-year option for a player drafted in the top 10 is the average of the top 10 salaries at the player's position in his fourth season — the same figure as the transition tag. For players selected between the 11th and 32nd picks, the fifth-year option salary is the average of the players ranked third to 25th at their position."

I think 7 to 10 is the sweet spot if we can find a partner.

This for the record, this is not my choices, this is what I think Dallas will do.

1.4 - EB Zeke Elliott. I think I am going to get my wish.  I think he is really the player that will help the team the most.  Do not confuse this with best player available. I think that is Ramsey and I am confident that he is the pick if I am wrong on EE.

2.34 - WR Corey Coleman. What?  This team needs defense.  Coleman is a stud, great route runner and gives us a TRUE second threat opposite Dez. Hearing rumors we love him.

3.67 - CB Xavien Howard.  Carr and Claiborne both FA's next week, this position has to be addressed

4.135- QB Dak Prescott. Jerry loves a gamble.

6.189- DE Cory James. Another need position filled by a productive College contributor.

6.212 LB Tyriq McCord. Great tackler from a solid program.

6.216 DT Luther Maddy. Deep class at this position.

6.217 CB Daryl Worley. Productive player, some red flags though off field.

I want Ramsey. I'll be happy with Zeke. Not happy with a Bosa but that's because y'all all say he's going to be average or slightly above average.

In what world is Coleman lasting until 2.04?

Oh and I desperately want Henry in round 2.

ETA- The more I hear people talk the more happy I'd be with  Zeke.  Ramsey is probably the smart pic but if Zeke is as good as pass protection as I've seen and what people say, he might be able Yep sure I don't care to keep Romo up right.

I wish we could somehow pull off both.

I do NOT want any part of Henry. Just going on record there.

Zeke does is it ALL.  Gets tough yards, can hit the home run, blocks, catches the ball.  I have him almost as good as Gurley and behind this line, could potentially be the rushing champ and that is not hyperbole.  I am totally fine with Ramsey, won't complain at all and will totally get the decision.

In the "mock" world Eagles fan.  Please feel free to post your 7 round Cowboys mock for us all.  The chances of nailing picks past the first round in fan mocks are pretty long.  It's just a fun post, I will step up my game to please you Deamon.  Apologies.

I have more DT's going late first round along with Treadwell, Doctson and Fuller going before Coleman.  Hardly see how him potentially going 7-10 picks later then consensus is out of this world.  It's kinda like when I got laughed at when I said Wentz and Zeke were top 10 picks before the Senior Bowl.

One thing Zeke has over Gurley is a lack of an major knee injury.

No need to get defensive here... and this has nothing to do with "eagles fan", you post in our thread often.  Wasn't an attack and I've never come here to poke the bear.  Just shocked that you posted a mock a day before the draft with him going round 2 when it seems highly unlikely that he will make it out of the first round.  I find those first 3 spots of round 2 seem like more then a typical 3 picks as well.  If you're a GM and wake up Friday morning and he is still available, I think the phone calls start getting made to the top 2 picks of round 2 in order to move up and grab him.  Cleve and Tenn would also likely want him themselves at that point.

I like the players there at 7 to 10 better so I agree from a personal standpoint.  Although, I also understand this is a business and that may be a key deciding factor as to how far they trade down.  But yes, I would definitely prefer to stay in the top 10.

I couldn't agree more on Henry.  I am not a fan of him at all.  Very one-dimensional and I believe he will end up being the next Alabama RB flop.  Lacy was actually starting to prove that line of thinking wrong until last year.  Henry is just another big, fast RB.  Big and fast gets it done in college behind a power house offensive line.  He's not nearly elusive enough for the pro level.  Maybe I'll eat crow ... but I doubt it.

I think SD is going to make our decision alot easier if we indeed want Zeke.  My guess is they go Ramsey.  Their O-Line issues are at center ... not tackle.  If they go Tunsil/Stanley, I would love the freedom that gives us.  If Dallas truly sees Zeke as their top guy, they could trade down a few spots with a team eyeing Ramsey or just take Ramsey if he's the guy.

And to go on the record, just like Bankerguy, the emotional football fan in me would LOOOOOOOVE it if we got Zeke.  The sensible football fan in me says take Ramsey if he's there or trade down.

If Zeke is the guy you take him at 4, not get cute and have the Eagles or Miami jump ahead and then we're sitting with egg on our face and W/O a top 5 player.
