You can call Choice overrated if you want but you can't back it up with any proof in the games that he has played.
The Dallas running game is not working at an optimum level. This last week was ok but it wasn't consistent enough for me.
I also think it is an incredibly silly thing to always throw the ball when Choice is in the game. Maybe they are setting something up for later in the season with this trend but all the guy has done when you have given him the ball is perform. Also he is also a powerful personality and would be a great leader in the locker room if they would just give him enough of a role to back it up.
Here is the situation with Choice, and it's much like Barber's two years ago. Choice came in, late in the season with fresh legs, and had some very good games. The teams he played had no film on him, had already played half a season, and he was able to exploit that. Then he comes in this year, and is third on the depth chart again. He has two games this season with extensive action. The first came against CAR, where Felix Jones tore them up in the first half. Choice came in after, and did very well. The following week he started in Denver, and was extremely unimpressive.
As soon as Barber and Jones are both healthy, Choice is back to third on the depth chart. Why? I don't necessarily think the Cowboys coaches are genious, but maybe they realize Choice just isn't an every down fulltime starter.
I agree it's stupid that they always pass when he's in. I understand he's a good blocker, but it's just telegraphing the play to have them always pass when he's in.
I think Choice would make a great third down RB, a la Kevin Faulk. But I haven't seen anything to lead me to believe he's bonafide starting material for the long term. Both Jones and Barber are better in most aspects of the game. Jones is faster, Barber more powerful, both are better runners. Barber is a better blocker. Jones is a more explosive receiver.
Honestly, I would be fine seeing Jones & Choice playing the way JJ and Barber were a couple years ago. I think Choice would excel in that type of a role, and Jones wouldn't need to carry the full load himself. It would work well for the Cowboys.
I can't see Barber being with the team next year, and I was right from the beginning certain he wasn't a fulltime RB - which was right. The team can use Barber, but not at his price next season. If they can get him to renegotiate to a lower contract, he's a good closer, and would serve well in that role.
Ideally I'd like to see Jones start and get most of the touches in the first 3 quarters. Choice be the third down back through out the game. And Barber be the closer in the 4th, or late 3rd if they have a lead.
