Official Dallas Cowboys In Season Thread (2 Viewers)

I guess it's the saturday game that makes this week seem to be going so slow. I am going to be so jacked up by Sunday morning.

I think they will need Barber to help out in pass protection (Flozell) this week so I'm hoping he plays
Flozell has actually been playing like his old pro-bowl self since the last Giants game so I expect him to handle "the mullet" pretty well.
I dont know that I would go that far, but he has been much better lately. He will need some help this week though.
You might be suprised. I am not sure on run plays but according to Bob Sturmon in pass protection he has only given up one sack since they played Green Bay on Week 10. That was to White in the New Orleans game.

The Cowboys will return to the practice field today without Marion Barber. He's being held out with a swollen bursa sac in his knee. They are remaining optimistic that he'll be able to play Sunday, yet there is no certainty.Meanwhile, Choice has been cleared to practice and will today.
Am I the only one that hopes Marion Barber is their emergency RB this week? I think the offense is better off with F. Jones and T. Choice.
No you aren't the only one.
Count me in. I've been on the youth movement since the offseason as it is (Spencer, Jenkins, Scandrick, Jones, Choice, Austin, Ogletree). Not that Barber is old, but my direction has been getting the younger, hungrier players on the field to simply demonstrate what they have to offer with an opportunity to cement a roster spot for years to come. I'd say it's worked out quite well thus far.

Demolition of Texas Stadium Scheduled for April 11

Texas Stadium will see its last sunrise April 11. That's the day - shortly after dawn - that Irving will demolish its most famous building and the former home of America's Team.

City officials announced the date this morning at an Irving City Council work session. The meeting also provided the first glimpses of how the stadium will come down and how it's changed since the Dallas Cowboys turned it back over to the city last year.

The city is planning a massive event surrounding the implosion. The public will be invited, though where everyone will be staged is still being worked out.

Irving Convention and Visitors Bureau executive director Maura Gast said now that a date has been picked, officials will begin ironing out scores of other details.

It's a Sunday- I might just have to be there...

Not worried about Barber. I'm digging through my closet for my Kenny Gant jersey to wear in Vegas this weekend.

Is there word on how the tickets are selling? Minnesota isn't exactly a tough place to play really. That town is depressed and it's certainly one of the top three most likely teams to up and move soon. 55% of season ticket holders did not take playoff tickets last year and they struggled to sell out. I'd expect 15k-20k Dallas fans much like what happened in the Arizona game. Home field should amount to nothing but hype.
The Shark I loved him he would get me so pumped up!!!!!!!!!

I know exactly where mine is. I've only bought two football jerseys in my life: Emmitt Smith and Kenny Gant. May need to break the Gant one out for myself for this game. Either that or the "Q102 1992 Road to the Super Bowl" t-shirt that I wear sometimes for special occasions.

Dangit! I gotta go to birthing class on Sunday evenings.
You need to get your priorities straight
I made sure to schedule mine with the wife after the football season ... trying to work with the wife to deliver on a day that the Cubs are off :goodposting:
My wife is due on February 7th, yes that's right, Superbowl Sunday. I told her if the baby is born within 2 hours of the Cowboys winning the superbowl, naturally then we must name her Romo. The odds of this happening are so long that if it did happen it is destiny, she must be named Romo. The football gods ask this of me, and I am committed.

My favorite is my old Charles Haley Jersey.Reminds me, I also have a Dexter Coakley Jersey. I used to love that little bow-legged LB'er. :lmao:

My favorite Gant moment was pretty solid and I remember it to the day. The dude was getting setup for another kickoff after a big TD in the late 4th quarter. The crowd was juiced up and he was doing the shark in the endzone to the max. Schtick was running thick and everyone was eating it up. He then lined up and did his "motion" start and the ball was kicked. He got a solid 8 feet ahead of anyone and got to the ball carrier first and hit the guy right in the bread basket. So hard the ball shot backwards.I'm not even sure the returner knew he dropped it and a Cowboy jumped on it so fast that Gant just got up and heard the crowd noise now so loud and insane and of course he just fed on it. He did the shark and stuff off the field hi-fives, etc. All this not realizing the offense was heading back on the field.

So he goes to the sideline and is getting up on the bench and stuff like that. Then, I think he looks out and sees the offense lining up and has an epic WTFoHAI moment and from what I could tell actually had to ask WTH was going on, and then of course proceeds to start up with his schtick all over again as if he thought, clearly nobody else had noticed that yet.

I wonder what happened to that guy.

Ah...the memories of Kenny Gant...his shark dance was awesome. Just to give you guys an idea of how long its been since we've won a playoff game. I was stationed in Okinawa, Japan serving in the Marines. I would never guess it would take this long to get one playoff victory but damn it feels good and the closer we get to Sunday I think I'm going to have a system overload baby!!!!

I was thinking the same thing. I have been to three different bases since the last Cowboys playoff win and I have been promoted three times. Really puts it into perspective...

Looks like Dallas will be ready for the crowd noise this weekend.

Todd Archer reports

If the weather holds up OK and the practice fields are dry, the Cowboys will practice Friday at Valley Ranch.

They practiced at Cowboys Stadium on Thursday and they pumped in crowd noise times 10, according to Wade Phillips, to get them accustomed to Mall of America Field.

"If it's that loud ...," Phillips said. "My ears are still ringing."

I heard that too, but what happens if Baltimore has to visit San Diego? Last I remember, they still stick to the 1 pm (Eastern) and 4 pm (Eastern) time slots for the Championship games.... unless I missed something.

Primetime, meaning the NFC tilt won't start until probably 6pm CT (7pm ET).In which case, the AFC matchup would probably start at 12:30pm PT (3:30pm ET) if it's played in San Diego.

Anybody remember This play?

A lot has changed since then.
I sure do. I was a freshman in high school at the time, and Drew Pearson was my idol growing up.Classmates even called me Drew. lol.

With the discussion going on of "what jersey to wear on Sunday," I'm now wondering if I should break out my Pearson jersey to help bring some of that magic or stick with my Newman jersey (Emmitt and Aikman are the only others I have). It's been Newman (as far as donning the jersey goes) all season that brought us this far.

Should I break out Drew? :goodposting:

Anybody?

I'm kind of leaning towards it now.

Hopefully your last name is Sapien and not Sexual.

DL Coach Todd Grantham will leave the Cowobys after the playoffs to become the new Defensive Coordinator at the University of Georgia. Anyone have any insights on him? Good coach? How much credit does he get for the development of Jay Ratliff?

Here is the new DL line coach Cowboys owner Jerry Jones reiterated Friday that head coach Wade Phillips is likely to keep his job in 2010."Certainly, I'm pleased with the job Wade is doing and has done," Jones said. "I certainly am interested in building on what we've got going right now in the positive way." Friday's hire of defensive line coach Paul Pasqualoni strongly indicates that the top of the food chain in Dallas is on track to return.Source: Dallas Morning News

Don't F with a streak. I started a new ritual on the night we played the Saints. I had a buddy give me a AUthentic NFl football whic I had been keeping in a display. Now, becuase usually I am a buddle of nerves and curse words during a game I needed something to keep me busy. So, I busted the ball out. During the games I hold the Football and toss it up in th air. We haven't lost since we've started...and even my wife has caught on to the ritual. You wear Newman-I'll have my Dallas shirt/hat on with the Football. DEAL?

Deal! I'll stick with it.Maybe I'll just bring the Pearson jersey out into my living room and hang it (somewhere?) for some presence.

Back in 1995, I was so worried Pittsburgh was going to give us a game, I had nearly every single item of Dallas memorabilia set up all over my entire basement. Football cards, stuff animals, pictures, hats, everything and anything I could find. I like to think my mojo caused O'Donnell to throw those new contract awarding pics to Brown. :bowtie:

My buddy and I made a pilgrimage to Texas Stadium a couple years ago to see the Cowboys for the first time in person. The game? Favre's last game against the Cowboys (the 10-1 Cowboys against the 10-1 Packers for NFC dominance). The mojo wasn't there that night - Favre played horrible and the Cowboys rolled. Here's hoping for a repeat!

Go Cowboys! ;)

O-line and Kicker better be priorities this offseason. It's painfully apparent that the O-line is getting too old. Doug Free should have never been replaced come the playoffs.

I put this one on Wade as much as anything. Obviously the players make the plays but we have a good punter who is solid at pinning the other team deep. In a close low scoring game you play field position rather than attempt the 48 yard FG. That changed momentum and the flow of the game from the start.

Once the sting wears off .... this was a moderately successful season.

Our draft at first blush was as bad as we thought ... it was designed to help special teams and depth rather than replace starters. Anything short of a Superbowl puts the team behind in long-term development now. Hopefully some of these 4th/5th round guys can become stronger contributors.

Buehler was a great pick but a complete PK would have been nice. Make it a priority to pick one up who can make FG's.

The OL as I mentioned long ago and was "overruled" by some on this forum was that this is an aging and slow OL in need of turnover.

Another WR would be great unless they think Roy can turn it around (he probably is what he is) or Olgetree can emerge. Hard to imagine they strike gold 3x with fringe players turning into stars (Austin, Romo).

Don't forget about adding more depth at NT and at pass rusher. Another CB should be on the list.

I suspect the coaching staff will return but the way this game unfolded MAY change that especially if Cowher is indeed interested.

Very disappointing today, I think we can all agree with that. It'll take a little time to officially get over the loss today but there are some positives to the season.

I think if we could go back in time and recapture whatever it is we felt just prior to preseason, we would be happy with a division win and a playoff win.

Most people thought Philly would easily win this division and the Giants would be a Wild Card team. The Cowboys outplayed both of them severely down the stretch and there's really no reason not to improve heading into next season where the SB is in Big D.

When we have a chance, let's try and break down what we really need to improve on. Obviously we need a kicker. That's not why we lost but we need a kicker in a big way. Getting down and missing all these field goals this year was one of the most frustrating things I can remember as a fan.

It was a great year and a lot to be happy about. Obviously no one is happy right now and is quick to figure out where to place the blame. To me that's not important, later I'll post my off-season hopes. For now...I have one great memory of this year.

That is my four year old son becoming a fan of the Cowboys. Wearing the Cowboys hat, rooting for the Cowboys and spending time with his Dad watching some Football. There is nothing better then that and I'm thankful for it.

Thanks Cowboys.

I don't know bro, we're just on totally different pages. The team got to where they were because of Wade.We had a Pro Bowl kicker in Folk, apparently his confidence is shaky because as soon as he starting missing, he just couldn't get it back. If you got a Pro Bowl Kicker, you think you're set at that position heading into the season.I loved the defense this year. I think if they can play like they did towards the end of this season at the start of next, we'll have more than 1 home game which proved huge in Minnesota. Minnesota is not the same team on the road. They will lose by double digits next week because that defense depends so much on crowd noise. The Cowboys lost 1 too many close games this season, whether it was the 1st Giants game we blew, the Denver game, the SD game that was a toss up. They all counted and wins in one of those would have had Dallas playing at home instead of that zoo. I honestly believe that was a huge difference.

Great posting. I too have a 4 year old son and I can say he enjoyed watching the Cowboys too. He woke up from his nap at 1:15 and came downstairs to watch the game and asked if Tony Romo was on. He then asked if Dallas was winning and I said no son, they're losing 7-0. The look on his face after that broke my heart but it makes those future wins that they'll have all that much sweeter.

Can we say Wade has been a great defensive coordinator but as a head coach he has been lacking? I stand by the comment that not punting for field position went a long way towards putting his team in position to fail. On the first one you probably go for it as option #1 or kick it as option #2. On the 2nd long FG it was too long to go for it but again the team gave up field position. Pinning the Vikings inside the 10 in a one score game could have changed EVERYTHING.

IMO Garrett needs to go. They basically abandoned the run, and he kept putting Barber in there when it was clear he couldn't convert a short yardage play. He didn't adjust at all to counter the Vikings pass rush. Clearly the defense held their own for much of the game, despite being put in bad situation after bad situation. So Wade did his job. But Garrett and Barber BOTH need to go.

Not going for it on 4th-and-inches from the 30 is inexcusable. That one's on Wade.

Not cooking up some quick-hitters for slow down the pass rush is on Garrett. Rocket pitch to Barber? What a joke.

Garrett is very clever, but he certainly has more gaffes than you'd want your OC to have.
