Official Dallas Cowboys In Season Thread (1 Viewer)

A bit concerned about Felix ... I'd think MB3 will be back but Felix just CAN'T be always dinged up like this although Choice is really turning out to be a beast. Not thrilled with the WR play ... the OL are horrible pass blockers but exceptional run blockers. It's amazing the difference.I think the Jenkins/Scandrick rotation is done.I think we found another pass rusher. Is this team bad against the pass due to over-playing the run? That said, they are TOUGH to run against right now. If they can shore up the pass defense a bit more we should be fine.Special teams looks better.Garrett needs to let his mauling OL and tough RB's have the majority of chances at the GL. That could have cost us another home win.Romo as a game manager who CAN make a play is a valuable winning QB.Next week should be interesting ... 2 good runners ... supposedly a good defense ... but all offseason Denver was a bad team that's played horrible teams. That said, TNew on Marshall means Royal could be in for his first big game of the year against Jenkins.
:thanks: I agree with everything above. Next time we get to the 1 yard line they better call the "you're momma is fat" play. That is the one where Tony Romo walks up to Leonard Davis and calls his mom fat. He then hands the ball to whoever is in the backfield (even me) and tells them to aim between the 7 and 0. Seems to be quite a bit of negativity but we are one Romo/Garrett bonehead game away from 3-0.

One more comment besides the obvious that I'm worried Felix could be done for awhile with another knee issue.

Newman can shut down one WR especially if he gets help. However, if you give help against two WR's that leaves the rush defense to be exposed. The Cowboys didn't fear Muh and it worked out. I'm not so sure the Cowboys D will be as great next week facing two WR's that scare you as I mentioned earlier and still shut down a decent running game.

few thoughts:

great defensive effort. likin the run D, and we finally got some pressure on the QB

love me some Choice!

too many penalties=drive killers. they overcame, but............ :)

no T.O's for Romo=Cowboys win! Loved the 6-7 yard dumps to Witten. that moves the chains.

the playcalling was decent (except on the drive where they threw twice from the 1 :X ). overall, very balanced attack

good 2nd half adjustment

Martellus still has some learning to do

Ratliff is a BEAST!

goin to 3-0 Denver.

This is Felix first knee issue. He pulled a hamstring last year, the trainers wrenched his toe, and then he bruised a thigh week one, which really was nothing.I am most concerned about this injury since knees can have a long term affect on a players performance. The dude needs to be better conditioned, because that fall shouldn't have hurt his knee at all. It's ridiculous. He's clearly one of the best runners in the NFL, though he has other aspects of his game to work on. But you can't work on other aspects of the game, nor contribute as a runner if you are always missing time with minor injuries.

Felix is a bust, I'm done with him.
kidding, right?he looked great last nite. as did Choice. Felix just needs to be able to stay on the field. he's not a bust though.last nite was a prime example of how the depth of the 3-headed monster benefits the Cowboys.

He has quickly become my favorite defender on this team. I love D Ware, but Ratliff is like the blue collar, nose to to the grindstone guy who just causes soo much havoc. Especially when you consider that the NT in a 3-4 is just supposed to occupy the middle and free the LBs to stuff the run.I'm not sure what's wrong with Bennett, he has much better hands than he has shown this year. Maybe he is overthinking, he just needs to make the catch and let his athleticism take over.

So I went to the game with a fellow FBG last night and got to see the stadium for the first time. Had ridiculous seats in the HOF section. Club access and the works.

The place is different and just amazing to look around at. They are going to have a problem with the sun in 3pm games in November though. I think the crowd noise at times was good, but it seems so many of the seats are real far above the field vertically. The stadiums I've been in where they are lower vertically, but extend horizontally are more noisy, but this is not by any means scientific.

That screen is ridiculous. I mean just ridiculous.

They kept showing the ugliest cheerleader of the entire crew last night over and over. This was annoying. The talent level is up over last year, but man they took this one hag and kept going to her. It's so hard to look away though.

The TNew/Felix injury report is going to get really old. I'm sick of having key pieces not there 100% for weeks at a time.

I still don't think there's anything to get super excited about. The playcalling was horrific last night and was IMO designed to protect Romo from getting embarrassed on national tv again. The back to back fades about had me jumping the rail and strangling JG.

Choice = future STUD.

Felix is a bust, I'm done with him.
Mendenhall is a bust... Jones just put up back to back 100+ yard games. Injury prone? Looks that way. Bust? Not a chance.
From a fantasy standpoint he's probably right though. Too inconsistent. You can't have a RB2 that you always have to swap out for utter spares like RickeyW or crap like that for injury either.
Sure you can. As long as you pick up Tashard Choice later. Wish I had thought of that.

Think you could pull those seats for this Saturday's contest? :wall:

Really? i thought the playcalling was pretty good. i liked the 1st play of the game being a screen to Felix. i liked the dinks to Witten underneath. the running game was solid. very good balance.didnt like the two passes from the 1. POUND IT INTO THE ENDZONE! other than that i thought it was solid playcalling. i wanna see MORE ball control. run, dink, and dunk should be their game plan.

My thoughts YTD:

The good:

Run blocking and all 3 RB's. Coach Houck!

Special Teams improvement- Coach Joe D and Buehler!

Rat is playing well on the nose.

Witten. The guy is all world and is what a Football player should be in every aspect of the game. A pro's pro.

I do see effort which is something that wasn't always evident last year. Execution could be better (see below) in some areas.

The So-so

Romo-just needs to be consistent and handled better by coaches (see below)

Ware-Just missing on sacks. He'll be fine.

TNew and Jenkins- Had some highs and lows.

Brooking has been a god player the last 2 games.

Defense overall. Getting better each game.

The Bad

Brady James-has he made any plays this year?

Garrett-WTF is this guy doing. Bad play calling not using his strengths etc. Needs to handle Romo MUCH better.

Wade-see above 1 line. Our pass defense, zone vs. man we can't seem to get either right at times.

Tackling-very poor so far.

Anthony Spencer and the lack of pressure (other then late in last night's game)

anyone catch Jim Rome today?

in his opening comments he criticized Witten for not breaking tackles, and the Cowboys for those short completions! :bye: wow, talk about clueless. way to go Rome.

Rome wouldn't know football if one hit him in the face. He needs to stick with baseball and ragging on J-Stew. And really he is only good at ragging on J-Stew.

I didn't like the 2nd fade to Bennett, but the first one was fine.

Roy Williams simply dropped it. Pretty annoying since it hit him right in his mitts and the defender never touched it.

What ever Rome...on the one play he beat 4 guys to get a first down.

Yeah I agree. They definitely should have run it the second time but you can see that they thought Romo had his touch for that pass. Of course it turned out to be not so much.

A few notes from today's presser:

First and foremost, rookie LB Jason Williams had FULL participation in today's practice.

Wade said that he has progressed/healed a little faster than they had anticipated.

Williams said the ankle is still a little sore but didn't feel that it was a problem.

Wade said he would probably want to get a look at him on special teams before plugging him into the defense for Sunday.

Felix was obviously out, and Barber was limited again. When questioned if Barber was less limited or participated more than last week, Wade said he was more active and less limited.

Ware has a neck strain but was not limited.

Confirmed that Jenkins will be the starter at RCB. Mentioned that it should help Scandrick in having to focus on only one position (slot).

Not much else. Commented (when questioned) about the fines levied to Flozell and Felix. Blah, blah, blah.

Williams doesn't know role but appreciates Romo

By Clarence E. Hill Jr.

Cowboys receiver Roy Williams is admittedly frustrated with his role in the offense, but he has an appreciation for quarterback Tony Romo as a leader. He told Romo as much after Monday's 20-7 victory against Carolina in what was Romo's first win as a Cowboys quarterback in which he didn't throw a touchdown pass. Although the Cowboys amassed 449, including 212 on the ground for the No. 1 ranked rushing offense, it was far from a smooth operation thanks to a number of drive killing penalties and miscues. "We had some tough times, some tough drives and he could have went into the tank," Williams said. "If he goes into the tank, this whole offense is going into the tank. He stood in there, held his head high, even though we had all the penalties and we were punting every series it felt like. He stayed in there and led this team down the football field and I really appreciate that out of a guy like that."

"That's what I think a leader is," Williams continued. " I could care less about guys who are rah-rah all day long," Williams said. "To me, it's like shut-up. You're getting on my nerves with all the rah-rah stuff. It's show me on the football field. He doesn't say anything. He doesn't have to say anything. All his stuff is on the football field. He is America's Team's quarterback. Whatever he does, people are going to love it or going to hate it. When we win, they love it. Nobody understands the small things that he did in the game, and that's why I told him I appreciated it."

So his appreciation for Romo should be duly noted when talk turns to his role as an accidental tourist in the Cowboys offensive game plan. Williams has been more dominant as a downfield blocker in the running game than as a go to receiver.

His eight catches for 179 and one touchdowns have only reinforced critics who claimed he didn't have the making of a No. 1 receiver. Williams contends it's still about a lack of opportunities rather than a lack for ability. After catching three passes for 86 yards and a touchdown in the season opening win against the Buccaneers, he caught just one pass against the Giants in a 33-31 loss. He had only one ball in the first half Monday against Carolina before catching three passes in the second half of the Cowboys 21-7 victory. Six of his eight receptions have resulted in a first down. "I do not know what my role is. I'm just trying to help this team win, whether it's catching the ball, whether it's blocking downfield, whether it's whatever. I'm just trying to win. Whatever the game is calling for at that point and time," Williams said. "My role is to, like I say, is to make plays whether it's in the run or pass game I'm guessing. I'm not like give-me-the-ball-every-play type of guy. I'm a go-with-the-flow guy because I just want to win. I was [mad] after the New York game because I had one catch. But if he would have missed that field goal, I wouldn't have been [mad] because we would have won. That's just the type of guy I am, and I hope you can understand that."

But rather than focus on personal stuff Williams said his priorities are to do whatever it takes to help the Cowboys win, which is why he has no problem accepting his current uncertain situation as long as they continue to win.

"I'm just a blocker, a catcher and runner and just trying to do all of them in 60 minutes of play. I just run to my spot and catch the ball. That's what I feel my role is right now, blocking down field or catching the ball when it comes my way. I don't get very many opportunities, but when I get the opportunities, I have to make the best of them. That's the way I approach it. As long as we keep racking up wins, we're good."

I will say I admire R.Williams blocking. I really like the physical presence he shows. I see him just daring CB's to even think about getting past him. Some of them look downright intimidated by him.

agreed. i thought Roy and Witten had some outstanding blocks that allowed big plays. we get consistent blocking and cut down on the penalties, this team can run on anybody. thats how you win games.

Nothing to add, but the title of Must Win Game is one of my pet peeves. The 4th game of the season against a non-divisional opponent who could drop you to 2-2 really a must win game? I understand that the Cowboy nation would love to see their team step up and confidently start stringing together solid play across the board but so would every team. The local Dallas radio is ridiculous about proclaiming that as well, last year every week after week #8 was a "must win" and I've already heard it this year. Ugh.

For this team to make the playoffs it's absolutely imperative go from week 3 to week 8 4-1. Anything short of that and it's damn near over. With Washington decomposing before our eyes it makes the division that much harder to gain ground in. One of the best things about having a competitive Washington is that they have a knack of pulling off a split with NY or PHI. Not likely this year as they are horrific.Either Philly or the Giants (or both) will carry the out of conference games. And somebody out of the South is getting a wild card.

New to the thread. But let me just say that while the WR MIGHT be scary in Denver, well, Orton is not exactly a good QB.

Yes, it is a must win game. Losing to your main division opponent at home puts you behind the 8-ball and creates "must wins" like week 4 against a non-conference team. The division is far too difficult with the eagles and the giants to be able to make the playoffs or even compete for the division if u lose to a team like Denver. It is no doubt a must win game.

I feel like we gave one away and so we have to make it up somewhere. This is not a make-up win. But a loss and we have 2 to make up. Therefore this is a must win.

I understand what you guys are saying but while this is a big game, it is not a must win game. A must win game means you go home/don't make the playoffs if you lose. We won't know for about 2 months which games will be must wins. In a tough division like the NFC East which will surely come down to the wire every game can have huge implications, but not every game is a must win.

You Cowboy fans need to loosen up and breathe. The season is young, Dallas has the offensive firepower to go places, and there is a brand new stadium to enjoy. Watch football, relax, and enjoy the goofy over-expressive antics of Wade on the sidelines. Too many crazy things happen in the NFL to be overly concerned about a the playoff implications of starting with a 2-2 versus a 3-1 record.

 Last year the Eagles made the playoffs with a 9-6-1 record.

The title is mine-It stays.Let's not get caught up in dictionary definitions, shall we. Bottom line is if this club wants to play post season Football this is a must win game against an opponent that we should be beating 60-70% of the time. Hey turns out some of those loses after Week 8 sure had an effect on them not making the playoffs. Weird.

It might not be a must win game if we were in the NFC North...that is not the case. If you have aspirations like Cowboy fans and want to win the NFC East and get home field playoff games...this is a must win. Good teams don't lose to the likes of Kyle Orton.

lolzBecause the NFC North sucks and has no playoff aspirations, so losses are no biggie. Meanwhile every loss in the far superior NFC East is serious business.

So if they lose to Denver they are out of the playoffs?Regardless, I never meant to imply you should change the title, I simply used this as an opportunity to vent on the "must win" pet peeve of mine. It seemed appropriate as Dallas local media and fans tend to overhype many games as "must win". I apologize for the hijack, it wasn't meant as anything other than an observation of how overly serious and "sky is falling" Cowboys fans can get. I will drop it and let you guys get back on the Cowboys.

Now you're getting it. I live in central, IL, not Dallas. I have watched for years as people crow about the pathetic NFC North/central. Always overrated. This year they are better, but still over rated. Usually teams that advance from that division do so, because they benefit from a soft schedule because of the weak division. Example #1 the Bears Super Bowl appearance from a few years ago.

Flozell Adams faces possible suspension

4:59 PM By Bob Glauber

Cowboys offensive tackle Flozell Adams has played three games this season, and has managed to do something in each game to draw a fine.

The next time he incurs the wrath of the NFL, he might not get off so easy. He could be suspended.

According to a league source, Adams was told in a letter this week that more repeated violations could result in a suspension.

"Future infractions of the type you have committed can lead to increased disciplinary action up to and including suspension," a passage in the letter read. This language is not uncommon when the NFL fines repeat offenders.

Adams was fined $7,500 for attempting to trip Carolina defensive end Julius Peppers in Monday night's game. The week before, Adams was fined $12,500 for kicking Giants defensive linemen Justin Tuck and Osi Umenyiora. Tuck suffered a shoulder injury when he was kicked. And in Week 1, Adams was fined $5,000 for illegally striking a Bucs defender's helmet.

Gut feeling: Next time Adams crosses the line with his questionable tactics, he will be forced to sit a game. Which is only right; after all, fines can only go so far when a guy is simply unwilling to change his behavior.

The Cowboys have signed RB Chauncey Washington from the PS today in order to roster him for the Broncos game.

To make room on the roster they cut safety Marvin White.

Joe Buck and Troy Aikman will be calling this upcoming game on FOX. FWIW.

Troy always makes a genuine effort in calling Cowboys games from an unbiased standpoint.

That being said (an Aikman favorite prefix), his still has great insight to offer and deliver with his ties to Dallas.

It seems I learn something new every time he calls one of their games.

Definitely looking forward to this game as a whole. Every week is a test, and this week's game should prove to be no different.

I'm actually looking forward to seeing how they perform and respond on the road as well. I think in ways it will do them some good to get out from the confines of the Death Star (what the new stadium is fondly referred to around these parts) and enable them to focus that much more on this game.

Should be interesting to see how well Flozell can matchup with Dumervil (who already has 6 sacks on this young season) and likewise, how Denver LT Clady works going up against Ware. As we know, Ware is still searching for his first sack, while Clady has yet to give up one in his youthful NFL career that consists of 19 starts. Sounds like a guy heading to Hawaii in February to me. ETA: Clady has been credited in giving up a half sack, but not a full sack.

Jenkins is the man at RCB now. He needs to continue to grow and thrive on that without getting complacent. I think overall this defense learned some things from their halftime adjustments last week in defending the pass, and Wade himself as well. I'll be very curious to see if that carries over. For starters, I'll be looking to see how far off the corners are lining up off the receivers. May be a telling sign. They need to press more.

Offensively, I want to see if Romo has regained his form. With so many nagging issues with the RBs, I think Romo will be relied upon a little more this week. He needs to come out sharp and take the short routes. They'll be there. Witten is a given, but I don't think they've been utilizing Bennett enough. They need to get him more involved. I'll also be looking for more WR screens to Austin and Crayton. "More" as in more than we've seen thus far. There are advantages to be taken there. There will still be some opportunistic deep shots taken in order to keep the safties deep and honest. It will be the middle of the field that Dallas will want to exploit, so clearing out the safeties will be key.

Kicking game? Hey, we're certainly getting some good results here thus far, aren't we. And that thin air at Mile High will only help Buehler and Folk. No worries there.

A lot has been made of Denver's 3-0 start, thanks in part to a miracle TD against the Bengals. But note this, the Broncos have only trailed on the scoreboard for a measly 4:01 total throughout their first three games (Bengals, Browns, Raiders). If the Cowboys can put some points on the board early and/or build any kind of lead, the Broncos will find themselves in some uncharted territory. How they play from behind will be different for them and it may prove to be very interesting to see how they respond.
