I'm in Cooperstown this week... went to the HoF yeaterday and saw the likes of Cobb, Kell, Kaline, Harwell, etc. A really cool experience if you ever get the chance. They keep a standings board of the current MLB season. What a rush to see the Old English 'D' so prominently displayed at the top.

Go get 'em Tigers!

I was going to give you an Old English "D" but that font don't seem to work here. :(

They knew it woudl happen. The crowd knew it would happen. The pitcher knew it would happen. Many people across Michigan and the US and the World Knew it would happen. We all took a deep breath and said collectively, "Cmon Pudge" Two fist in the air. The crowd not leaving the park. Pudge not leaving the field.Olde English D. Always. Forever. 119 or 50. The Times cooed over Liriano's amazing year, his incredible numbers, how he's going so well, he might win the Cy Young award in his rookie season.But before the sun set Monday evening, Liriano was just another guy walking to the showers early, the latest victim of an astounding Detroit Tiger team whose motto should be: "What else you got?"One of these days, the national media won't be able to keep the Tigers off the front of their sports sections. One of these days, cable sports networks won't begin with the tight races between Yankees and Red Sox; they'll begin with the first and best story in baseball this year, the one that plays at Comerica Park.Until that day, the Tigers can keep doing what they're doing; knocking down whatever gets set up in front of them. Monday it was Liriano, the Minnesota sensation from a backwater town in the Dominican Republic who switched from outfield to pitcher only a few years ago. He has a wicked slider, great strikeout numbers, and entered Monday with a 12-2 record. He has been having a terrific season.Against everybody else.Against Detroit, he'd been very mortal, having given up nine runs in 11 2/3 innings, a 6.94 ERA. If you told me they would have a ten game lead at any point before the season began, I would assume the entire rosters for Sucks, Twins, and Tribe had the bird flu.

White Sox just don't look that good....the starting pitching is bad, and the hitting has been inconsistent. Now they have to play the Yankees. It doesn't look good for the White Sox - forget the division, the wildcard is becoming an unreasonable expectation with how bad they've looked since mid July.
 
Twins rookie Liriano out indefinitely

Francisco Liriano, Minnesota's rookie All-Star, is out indefinitely with what appears to be a left elbow injury.

In a quiet postgame clubhouse, Liriano, 22, seemed on the verge of tears, and his voice crackled as he described the pain, pointing to the inside of the elbow this time, beneath the muscle and possibly in the joint.

He had an MRI exam on July 31 and said he was relieved to learn there was no structural damage in the elbow, just the muscle inflammation.

Manager Ron Gardenhire said Liriano will be reexamined by orthopedic physician Dan Buss after the team returns to Minnesota on Wednesday.

Asked if he is more scared this time, Liriano said: "Yeah, because it bothered me. It's getting worse, you know."

Gardenhire was more measured, saying the injury appeared to be muscular again.

"He just came off the mound after the fourth inning, and we asked him how he's doing," Gardenhire said. "We said, 'Are you OK?' And he wouldn't really give us any definitive answer."

 
I was at the game. Tigers seem a bit tired. Zumaya has to get the head under control and understand that every pitch is important when he comes into a game.

 
Carlos Guillen has 21 errors :X

That's ok if they were against the Royals, Orioles, and Mariners. Can't make those mistakes against a team like the White Sux0r.

Also they mentioned on the FOX broadcast that "some in Detroit feel" Guillen should be getting MVP consideration. Who the hell are "some people?"

Sox just tied it up BTW. :thumbdown:

3 errors so far. I think Detroit is a bit tired/out of focus. A few costly errors lately.

Well Rogers certainly looked good today. :thumbup: Should have had the shutout.

Not a good loss but they need to play in these kind of games if they have a chance at winning a championship. Still have a six and a half game lead. I'll take that and then some at this stage in the season.

By the way all 3 runs off of Buehrle came after Uribe should have gotten a DP as well. Iguchi made a couple of stellar plays at 2nd. Anderson came through with a great clutch hit. Buehrle 7 k's in first 3 innings. Great bullpen work from the Sox. Heart of Tigs lineup up and down meekly in the 9th. Guillen makes a Valentin like 21st error on season in BIG game. Those were some of the high spots of what really happened in the Chisox 8th win in 11 tries against the Tigs. Go Sox.

Can't wait to see these teams square off in the playoffs. It's obvious they have the best squads in the game. Resting Verlander was necessary, as I still don't see the Tigers pitching staff holding up due to the lack of big innings in the past. As long as Leyland doesn't screw up two young arms to win it all (see Cubs 2003), I'll be happy with a playoff birth.
