*** Official Detroit Tigers Bandwagon *** (1 Viewer)

:pickle:

I'm in Cooperstown this week... went to the HoF yeaterday and saw the likes of Cobb, Kell, Kaline, Harwell, etc. A really cool experience if you ever get the chance. They keep a standings board of the current MLB season. What a rush to see the Old English 'D' so prominently displayed at the top.

Go get 'em Tigers!

I was going to give you an Old English "D" but that font don't seem to work here. :(

AhemThe Tigers need to lose 39 straight games to be at .500Let me paint a picture. Old dude manager comes back. People make fun of him. He has a very young pitching staff and Pudge as his catcher. They win the world series.Wash Rinse Repeat.Bandwagon....SAY IT...I dare you.I paid 5 times to see them in 2003. I remeber EXACTLY where I was when they won the last game of the year and avoided 120. I remember Ernie Harwell telling me that someone stood there "like a house by the side of the road" and reading me a poem every April. I remeber Gibson's REAL World series homer...not that Dodger BS, but the one where the Padre's manager came out to pull Gossage and he shook him off. Gibson then took him YARD. Trammel to Lou.....OMFG, that was a duo. Chet Lemon. Dale Evans. Lance MotherFing Parrish. Jack Morris. Dan Petry. Willie, 0-13 with the cubs, lights out with the Tigers, Hernandez.Bandwagon that. I know that if you take off your ChiSox gear there will be Cubbie blue there. Here we are Tigers. 119 loses, we are Tigers. Alwasy Have, Always will. We have Eugene V. Debs night and all sit in LEFT field and drink beer. We swap stories about John Wockenfuss and that crazy Mark kid who talked to the baseball. We KNOW what is at the corner of Michigan and Trumbull. We also respect Mr. October for leaving the park in the All -Star game. And truly, last night, when Pudge did his dance, I knew it would happen. I have the TV volume off and listen to the radio crew. They knew it woudl happen. The crowd knew it would happen. The pitcher knew it would happen. Many people across Michigan and the US and the World Knew it would happen. We all took a deep breath and said collectively, "Cmon Pudge" Two fist in the air. The crowd not leaving the park. Pudge not leaving the field.Olde English D. Always. Forever. 119 or 50. Doesnt matter. Lets go Boys.
:goodposting: I like this guy. :bye:
That touched my heart.

Good article by Albom.

MITCH ALBOM: Tigers prove they are best story in baseballAugust 8, 2006Email this Print this BY MITCH ALBOMFREE PRESS COLUMNISTFrancisco Liriano started Monday morning as a sports cover story on the national edition of the New York Times. That's pretty heady stuff for a 22-year-old. Most athletes go their entire lives and never get that treatment. The Times cooed over Liriano's amazing year, his incredible numbers, how he's going so well, he might win the Cy Young award in his rookie season. But before the sun set Monday evening, Liriano was just another guy walking to the showers early, the latest victim of an astounding Detroit Tiger team whose motto should be: "What else you got?"One of these days, the national media won't be able to keep the Tigers off the front of their sports sections. One of these days, cable sports networks won't begin with the tight races between Yankees and Red Sox; they'll begin with the first and best story in baseball this year, the one that plays at Comerica Park.Until that day, the Tigers can keep doing what they're doing; knocking down whatever gets set up in front of them. Monday it was Liriano, the Minnesota sensation from a backwater town in the Dominican Republic who switched from outfield to pitcher only a few years ago. He has a wicked slider, great strikeout numbers, and entered Monday with a 12-2 record. He has been having a terrific season.Against everybody else.Against Detroit, he'd been very mortal, having given up nine runs in 11 2/3 innings, a 6.94 ERA. On Monday, he lasted less time than my first bag of popcorn: four innings, 10 hits, four runs, including a homer, and a wild pitch. What else you got? We've got great rookie pitchers, too"Tonight we were able to put the bat on the ball," said Craig Monroe, who has done a lot of that lately. "But he's a great pitcher. You can't take nothing away from him."Actually, the Tigers can. They can take the ball away from him. They came out pounding Monday night, two hits in the first inning, another in the second, three more and two runs in the third. This is how they are. They don't whimper. They don't get intimidated. They're like an electric pencil sharpener: They don't care what color, what size, or how much lead you got; they whittle you down, same as the last stick."If you want to be the best," Monroe said after the 9-3 win, "you have to beat the best."Done. Liriano left after the fourth and was tagged with just his third loss of the year. Reports were he left with elbow pain. I'll bet that wasn't the only thing that hurt. But it wasn't just the Tigers' offense that won the night. Brandon Inge made two more spectacular plays at third base. Zach Miner, the other rookie pitcher out there, scattered seven hits and got the win.In case nobody noticed, Miner, 24, and Justin Verlander, 23, now have a combined record of 21-6. Throw in the other rookie, Joel Zumaya, and it's 27-7.Rookies. In case nobody noticed."I feel bad for Justin," Miner said after his win. "To me, he's got the best stuff in baseball. ... But he's the type of guy -- and I'm the same -- you know, Liriano's great, he gets all the publicity, it's OK that nobody really talks about me. I'll go my whole career like that as long as I'm pitching well."Sunny days are here againYou love that kind of attitude. Then again, what don't you love about this team right now? Every night, you ask somebody "Tigers win?" and they say "Yup" and it's like someone saying, "weather forecast for tomorrow is 78 and sunny and no humidity -- again!"The unthinkable is becoming the inevitable. The Twins, with every loss like Monday's, shrink their slim chances of catching Detroit and lose ground in the wild-card chase. The Yankees play the White Sox this week, which means one of them is going to lose ground to Detroit as well."I don't think any of us will ever be comfortable until it's champagne time when we win something," Miner said. That's fine. But some lessons are teaching themselves. One of them, Francisco Liriano can recite by heart: This is not the town you want to come into as a cover story. You may leave running for cover instead.

10 game lead. Didn't think I'd ever see that.
If you told me they would have a ten game lead at any point before the season began, I would assume the entire rosters for Sucks, Twins, and Tribe had the bird flu.
White Sox just don't look that good....the starting pitching is bad, and the hitting has been inconsistent. Now they have to play the Yankees. It doesn't look good for the White Sox - forget the division, the wildcard is becoming an unreasonable expectation with how bad they've looked since mid July.

Twins rookie Liriano out indefinitely

Francisco Liriano, Minnesota's rookie All-Star, is out indefinitely with what appears to be a left elbow injury.

In a quiet postgame clubhouse, Liriano, 22, seemed on the verge of tears, and his voice crackled as he described the pain, pointing to the inside of the elbow this time, beneath the muscle and possibly in the joint.

He had an MRI exam on July 31 and said he was relieved to learn there was no structural damage in the elbow, just the muscle inflammation.

Manager Ron Gardenhire said Liriano will be reexamined by orthopedic physician Dan Buss after the team returns to Minnesota on Wednesday.

Asked if he is more scared this time, Liriano said: "Yeah, because it bothered me. It's getting worse, you know."

Gardenhire was more measured, saying the injury appeared to be muscular again.

"He just came off the mound after the fourth inning, and we asked him how he's doing," Gardenhire said. "We said, 'Are you OK?' And he wouldn't really give us any definitive answer."

I was at the game. Tigers seem a bit tired. Zumaya has to get the head under control and understand that every pitch is important when he comes into a game.

Carlos Guillen has 21 errors :X

That's ok if they were against the Royals, Orioles, and Mariners. Can't make those mistakes against a team like the White Sux0r.

Also they mentioned on the FOX broadcast that "some in Detroit feel" Guillen should be getting MVP consideration. Who the hell are "some people?"

Sox just tied it up BTW.

3 errors so far. I think Detroit is a bit tired/out of focus. A few costly errors lately.

Well Rogers certainly looked good today. Should have had the shutout.

Guillen makes the final out. Not a good game for Carlos today.

:lmao: at Rogers being the player of the game. Shows what really happened.

Not a good loss but they need to play in these kind of games if they have a chance at winning a championship. Still have a six and a half game lead. I'll take that and then some at this stage in the season.

By the way all 3 runs off of Buehrle came after Uribe should have gotten a DP as well. Iguchi made a couple of stellar plays at 2nd. Anderson came through with a great clutch hit. Buehrle 7 k's in first 3 innings. Great bullpen work from the Sox. Heart of Tigs lineup up and down meekly in the 9th. Guillen makes a Valentin like 21st error on season in BIG game. Those were some of the high spots of what really happened in the Chisox 8th win in 11 tries against the Tigs. Go Sox.

Can't wait to see these teams square off in the playoffs. It's obvious they have the best squads in the game. Resting Verlander was necessary, as I still don't see the Tigers pitching staff holding up due to the lack of big innings in the past. As long as Leyland doesn't screw up two young arms to win it all (see Cubs 2003), I'll be happy with a playoff birth.
