wow...kansas city just absolutely sucks.
I was watching the game last night. They are REALLY bad. I think there may be some AAA clubs that can beat them.
It would be quite a game between these Royals and the 2003 Tigers. I am loving this season so far.........could this bode well for....gasp.....the Lions?
This is freakin' awesome! I keep waiting for the other shoe to drop, but until then, WOO HOO!! BLESS YOU BOYS!!Also -- I LOVE Streets of Fire. That ROCKED!

No word yet on who replaces Maroth in the lineup. I saw a couple names mentioned, and Zumaya was NOT one of them.

Better if it isn't Zumaya. Likely looking at Colon or Ledezma but I'd like to see Ledezma myself. Then if he has a rough start in either of the three likely spot starts then they can go to a solid Colon in relief. If Colon were to struggle out of the gate I'd have issues bringing Ledezma in to try and stop the bleeding.

Verlander goes seven and gives up just one vs the Tribe. Not bad.

Rodney allowed only his 9th hit in 21 plus innings, Monroe takes a homer away from Sizemore, and Guillen makes a great play for the third out. 2-1 going to the bottom of the 8th.

Not to be a negatively Nelly in the midst of this great run, but one of the most frustrating things about the Tigers is the lack of Bonderman's development. I really thought you'd see significant improvement by now but it's still the same -- great game, terrible game, great game, terrible game.

ANOTHER WIN!!!!

WOW!
21 games over .500. 5 straight vs the Indians.

Three and a half game lead over the White Sox.

I never thought any of those three would happen at any point this year. This is great.

I feel the same way and it hurts. He is my favorite player and I said two years ago before the season started that he was a 20 win pitcher in two years. Ever since the All Start game last year he is hit or miss and I just don't get it. When he is on he is a top 15 pitcher in baseball. :wall:

Looks like the Tigers have the Yankees, Red Sox, and the defending champs to deal with the next week and a half or so. Should be a good test.

Another ruckus crowd and a great game. My 10 year old was heckling back and forth with an Indians fan behind us... was pretty damn amusing.

Even if the tigers only go .500 in that strech, we are fine. Finally a decent baseball season.

Crowd was rockin again. 37K + fans.

My buddy that i went with said on the way out "I cant believe how much a difference winning makes. Last month iI wouldnt believe Id spend money to see two Tigers games in one week."

I agree. Its very rare for any club to not have a long stretch of games they play somwhere close to .500 ball. Look at the White Sox a year ago. They had a great start and then coasted for a long time until kicking it back it gear at the end.Its to be expected. That's why you need great runs like the Tigers are having right now.

For my Indians, I have to hope they are starting the year with one of those .500 stretches, and that later on they will get hot.

Right, the only point I was trying to make is that they are going to start playing some upper echelon teams, it should be interesting to see how they fair against them considering the White Sox already swept the Tigers earlier this year, before Tiger Mania hit. :bye:

It probably wouldn't tell us much. We've seen several examples where one club beats another in the regular season only to lose to them in the playoffs. The 2004 Cardinals / Astros come to mind. The playoffs are kinda a crapshoot, and if one of the White Sox or Tigers get the upper hand in their regular season meetings, it pretty much means nothing.Enjoy such a regular season metting for what it is - a chance at some good baseball. Its not a barometer of future success.

I think the Indians, A's, and Reds are all "upper echelon" teams. Who have the White Sox played lately? Pretty much the same teams as the Tigers plus the Devil Rays and Cubs. I don't think any of us are saying the Tigers are the White Sox but they aren't the Orioles or the Devil Rays either.

Do you really?
Cincy is by record and the A's and Indians are by talent. Keep in mind the Indians have lost 7 of ten vs the Tigers and most "experts" had them challenging the Sox for the division this year. Turn that around and they would be 28-21 just a half game behind the Yanks. A's always start slow. If the Tigers go 6-7 over the next four series, they'll at least finish 82-80. That was my goal for them at the beginning of the season and I've never said they would be the team to beat by any stretch. It is just nice to enjoy the team playing good baseball.

:hifive: Still, only 3-4 on this 16 game stretch. Hopefully "we" can pick up 2 of 3 against Boston.
Tigers only need to go .500 in this stretch.
No way anyone can expect them to keep up their torrid pace of Apr/May. Never a team in history that didn't have at least a few bad stretches. Granted, it would be nice if the lapses would come against lesser teams, but I'm still encouraged.Leyland has them in the right frame of mind. They still fight/contend/don't give up in almost every game. The last two nights are perfect examples.

Saw a stat that said that teams with their record at the end of May have made the playoffs over 90% of the time (I think this even includes pre-wildcard days).

I don't think there is anything more important. I've said here and elsewhere that a year ago this team would have packed in in and pouted. They lost three in a row and were down 5-0 to the almighty Yankees last night and came back to win to at least salvage one game. Last year's Tigers would have lost last night and then got swept this weekend. I have faith in Dave Dombrowki. I have faith in the future and the present isn't looking too bad either. Good stuff last night.
