*OFFICIAL* Dexter McCluster (1 Viewer)

So is anyone starting him in PPR/points per carry leagues this week?
:mellow:Starting him over Carolina Steve Smith. The thinking is that if he sucks, I can just say I wanted to play it safe till I saw Smith play a game with the injured arm.If he does well, I can act all smart.
I'd go with Steve Smith.
I'll add your input to my journal.
Smith's arm is no longer injured, and he will see the most targets of any WR or TE on his team. He originally broke his arm last year against the Giants while scoring a TD. He says he is ready against those chumps. Like I said, I'd play Smith.

I don't have this much room in my journal.

Anyway, Steve Smith's outings against the G-Men show him cranking out yardage numbers like 67, 60, 40, and 16 since...oh...2003. So he's not exactly playing in his personal stomping grounds to begin with.

Weis clearly wants to show the world he's found the flyover states' equivalent of Wes Welker, and is taking every opportunity to shout it to the media.

I expect Smith to put up 4/42/0.

From McCluster: 11/139/2, plus 2 rushes for 42 yds, and 1 ill advised pass that gets intercepted and returned to the house, but called back on an illegal block.

Clearly CJ3 is way faster, but that 40 time is whack. McCluster is WAY faster than that, when you consider how many 4.4 guys there are. On a fly pattern or punt return he'd smoke a lot of the guys who run a pretty little 4.4 in no pads.

On that 94-yard KR TD you saw his explosive acceleration, which is exactly what we saw of him exploding through holes at Ole Miss and going for long TD runs.

Alright, the guy's electric. But what's his upside in KC? A few mouths to feed there. How much should I give for this guy; dynasty-wise?

Good question. I have McCluster as my WR4 and am hoping I struck gold. Chambers and Bowe are meh IMO. I think they should get the ball into Dexter's hands as often as possible.

Cassel is utter garbage. He kills the upside of basically every offensive player KC has.

He's also not getting ANY variation in the routes he's running. They seem to be working him in slowly. So far it's swings and screens. He'll break something sooner or later but I'm looking for them to open up his route tree.

I only play dynasty and I've got him in 2 leagues (out of 4), but I wouldn't bother with him in re-draft any time soon. He might pop a 5-100-1 game out of nowhere, but he's not going to be consistent.

TDs in 2 of his 3 first games. He's going to start inching his way up weekly projection sheets.

ALL ABOARD!!!

Is he possibly an option if you are hungry at RB in a 16 team PPR league that DOESNT count return yardage? (Yahoo hes WR,RB)

How many snaps does he play/looks does he get?

I watched a lot of that game this weekend, and you can just FEEL this kid is going to be a huge part of the offense. The crowd goes NUTS when his number is called. I think he's gonna be a weekly FF starter by season's end. :loco:

I would agree. Haley has worked him in slowly, but I expect that he's going to get more and more touches as the weeks go on. Wouldn't surprise me to see him take on a Percy Harvin-type role as a multi-purpose threat.

Forced into a flex start this week, thanks to dings and bruises elsewhere on my rooster.

Imagine my opponent was licking his chops. Well who's licking chops now, pal?!

Train-a-rollin' up in here.

McCluster is available in my league and I think I'm gonna snag him. He has to count as a WR and we don't get the return yardage but I think he's still worth a play each week. Probably be hit or miss but he'll score from long distance when he scores and that's bonus points in my league.

I just added him in my PPR w/ return yardage league. Someone dropped him before the bye week. It's a Yahoo league, so he's a WR/RB. I'm thinking he'll be a nice bye week replacement at both positions over the next few weeks and maybe he'll even turn into more if the Chiefs start finding ways to get him the ball. He may not be worthy of a roster spot in 10-team leagues with limited starting lineups, but if you need to start 3 or more WRs and 2-3 RBs, he's a guy to target.

Check out the Chiefs' upcoming schedule:

5 Oct 10 @ IND

6 Oct 17 @ HOU

7 Oct 24 JAC

8 Oct 31 BUF

9 Nov 7 @ OAK

There should be tons of opportunities to get this guy the ball in space. In fact, the Chiefs' entire schedule looks pretty tasty:

10 Nov 14 @ DEN

11 Nov 21 ARI

12 Nov 28 @ SEA

13 Dec 5 DEN

14 Dec 12 @ SDG

15 Dec 19 @ STL

16 Dec 26 TEN

17 Jan 2 OAK

*choo-choo*

This should be the week to increase his touches. KC is facing a banged up Indy D (ranked 26, giving up 367 yd per game, 4th worst yard per play and struggling in stopping 3rd downs), so this game has the possibility of denting the scoreboard.

Not that Cassell will be lighting it up, but get the ball out of his hands and let #22 do his thing.

Does anybody know why he doesn't get all of the KR/PR duties?
Noticed this - Arenas is the other dude that does returns for themOct 5 CB Javier Arenas is coming off a right ankle/foot injury that he suffered Sept. 26 against San Francisco. It's important for the Chiefs defense that Arenas is ready to go this Sunday against the Colts in his role as the team's nickel back. Arenas has done good work in that job, especially covering the slot receiver one-on-one.

As good a returner as McCluster is, Javier Arenas is that good or better. I think there are several college STs that actively use multiple KR/PR formations to run different return plays. Have not seen enough of KC to say if they do the same, but it's possible they could find some advantages by using one less blocker.

 Was going to post this. I could see as many as 8-10 targets this week, with 5-6 catches. We've all seen his ability to take any of those touches to the house.

So do you guys see McCluster as a viable WR3 in ppr leagues going forward? Will his role in the offense continue to increase?

I just have a feeling this kid is going to keep getting more and more touches as the season goes on - he's a threat to score everytime he touches the ball.It seems as if he is splitting the KR/PR duties with Arenas as well. I could see his total touches maxing out at 15 a game. Maybe closer to 10?3-4 KR/PR opps3-4 carries3-4 catches?I think the big one there is how they plan on using him as a slot receiver - I haven't watched a KC game this year but every highlight I see of KC on offence McCluster has been in the offence. In any case he is electric - his value isn't correlated with Charles or Jones - any RB carries he gets is gravy. I'd just like to see an effort by KC to get the ball in this guy's hands more as the season goes forward. With the Indy game coming up I am betting McCluster is a big part of the game plan.

Good points about McCluster getting more total touches each week and with as much as the Chiefs wanna run, I could see his running back carries and wildcat plays going up over the season too.

I'm tempted to play him this week but not sure I wanna double up @ Colts (already playing Thomas Jones).

I'm itching to get McCluster in my lineup, but my WR's are Austin, Nicks, and T.O. I just play him over any of those guys right now.

I hear ya...It's tough to pull the trigger over proven producers.I think Dexter is going for 2 long TD's tommorow. He passes the eyeball test. Sooner or later not even an idiot HC can keep him down.I can move him in my lineup if Bradshaw pulls up lame tommorow.

Like Jones more than McC today. The Chiefs OL is simply blocking too well up front right now, and Jones can/will pound that front 7 for 5 yards a pop.

I think he is better than TJ in PPR, IF your league awards you for KR/PR yards than he is going to be gold (assuming he keeps the KR/PR duties), the kid has home run potential on every play just like Jammal Charles. However he is only 5'7 170lbs, he will never be a every down back or starter. Remember last year TJ had more carries than JC, but JC still dominated in PPR leagues. This feels like deja vu when Charles came out of nowhere and was FA gold few years back. Now, the only question, is 171 lbs enough for the NFL.

Choo Choo!

Whats everyone's projections for McCluster Week 3 vs SD?

Thinking about starting him as my WR3 this week over Manningham

Chiefs coach Todd Haley said Wednesday that Dexter McCluster should expect 10-14 touches per game on offense.

It makes him an intriguing pickup for PPR leaguers able to use McCluster in a wide receiver spot. McCluster was supposedly a slot receiver in 2010, so he's retained eligibility at that position in many leagues. As the favorite for receptions in the backfield for a Chiefs team that projects to play from behind so often, McCluster could flirt with Darren Sproles-type production.

I agree, now think of how much more value Sproles would have if he had WR/RB eligbility.I think with McCluster getting more of an opportunity he will seize the moment just like Charles did, as he is really the only playmaker now. To be honest I believe the skill set is the same, Charles is just a little bigger. It was obviously the Charlie Weiss offense that helped Charles launch to the fake top 5 pick many thought him to be. I like McClusters opportunity to produce just as much as Charles was going to produce this year...but McCluster can be had for much cheaper, and can be played at WR.

Ive been on board with DMC2 since he entered the league. He is only explosive player on KC. I think that wanting to give him 15 touches is good but he will actuallynsee more. Went back and watched detroit game and cassel even looked for him donwfield a few times. I thinkmit will be more like 15-20. He can score from anywhere. Best of all impicked him up on waivers week 1 and that bet just pqid off. Starting him this week in SD who will score lots of points in this one and leave the underneath stuff. Could do 80-100 combined ydg witha possibility ofna long td always. Train has left the station. Choo choo

I do think the 10-14 comment from Haley was a little surprising (inasmuch as anything he does can be considered surprising at this point), because in the first two games he got 9 and 12 touches. So Haley is effectively saying his usage won't change much, which I find hard to believe.

IF the 10-14 total touches proves to be accurate, I guess we're looking at about 50-60 yards a week with the upside of a big-play TD here and there.
