I do like Ridley to have a bounce back year this year but that is good work to use him as a stepping stone for more value. Especially if you are set at WR.

Yeah, that's solid value for Ridley, especially if you either aren't contending in the immediate future or have a really strong WR group already.

That said, Ridley is moving up boards in redraft mock drafts. For what it's worth, he went 4.2 in the latest CBS mock, WR 18. I only bring this up because now that he is officially reinstated and based on the letter he wrote explaining his issues, it seems he has put those issues behind him and expectations are rising . If that's the case, at age 28, he should have a solid 4 years of high production playing with a young QB who is becoming a star. It's a deal that could backfire.

The big reason they made the move for Ridley is because Zay Jones just isn't very good. He put up his first decent season at age 27 last year mainly because Jacksonville had nothing at WR after Kirk. Still only 823 yards and 10 yards per reception in a full 17 games. A couple big games but mostly meh. Same with Engram.

Ridley is also a better overall receiver than Kirk, so hard to believe he won't lead the team in targets. Might take a few games for that to happen but no doubt for me that he will be the alpha receiver in Jacksonville. No way in hell Jones or Engram come close to Ridley in targets and yards. Kirk may be close because he is actually talented and has a year under his belt with Lawrence, but by mid-season, Ridley will be the man in Jacksonville.

Hodgins is an easy guy to roster. He flashed big at end of year. Thornton flashed in preseason so he was occupying my last or second to last bench spot before the wire.
As far as his guys. Slayton had an okay year.and he rosters mcaffrey so I am not sure if that was insurance for him or what. Mason is an easy drop for me.

People seem to think he's going to come in with Lawrence and immediately be a WR1. And maybe it works that way. He has shown the talent to be an Elite WR1. He's certainly capable.

On the flip side, he was on a bad Atlanta team without any real competition for targets and was brutal through a handful of games. Then he stepped away for his mental health. The mental health to me is a huge red flag--especially for dynasty. I applaud him for recognizing he needs help and getting it. I just worry it could be an issue again in the future.

He's been gone the majority of two seasons. Can he come back and be the same guy that was dominating? Maybe. But he may also may not. Jacksonville's receiving group isn't a bunch of scrubs. And they're guys that have had time to develop chemistry with Lawrence.

He's 28. He MAY give you 3 to 4 good years. But he may also have another issue flare up at any point. If you own him, I think you sell into the hype.

I can say that for the right price, I'd sell him as I do have him but I disagree your take here. He had a great season his last full season in ATL with a healthy-ish Julio so had comp for targets. Also, I would argue that Jax WR core is closer to a bunch of scrubs than it is a bunch of good options. Engram was a turd in NY and they didn't even trust him enough to give him a full contact after last year. Zay Jones isn't good. Kirk has talent but not even close to a #1 option.

I'd sell him for a mid-late 1st this year most likely but I am also more than ok keeping him and I don't necessarily think he blows up out of the gate but I think he is easily their WR1 by the middle of the season.

Agreed on the value but I think this WR room is getting overhyped. I like Kirk but I think he is more of a WR2 in my eyes. Zay Jones had 823 yards in 16 games. That isn't even close to elite. I do agree that Etienne gets more targets and they draft a rookie TE but rookie TEs always struggle and I would expect them to cut in to Engram's 98 targets.

Marvin Jones 81 targets are gone, I don't see Zay (who is bumped to the WR3 easily here) getting 121 targets again, and I could see Ridley getting a few of the 133 Kirk got also (I still expect him to be over 100 for sure though). I think Ridley is definitely the most talented of that group. That isn't saying that it is definitely going to happen as anything can happen in the NFL But I think just selling him isn't necessarily the right move either. Depends on team and what you are getting back. Like I have a win now team and I'd rather have him than like Josh Downs or someone like that.

Not a great sign for a guy who was drafted early 2nd round. He was underutilized for a reason. He wasn't very good in either Buffalo or Oakland. He had 3 years in each place so it wasn't like he didn't have a chance to impress and earn a bigger role. Jacksonville was 9th overall in passing attempts, so he was able to achieve "meh" status based on a lot of targets. I remember a couple really bad drops on longer passes that would have been TDs. In the CBS mock I mentioned, Ridley went early 4th, Kirk mid 6th and Jones in the 13th. Early mock and take it for what it's worth, but it does say something on the expected pecking order this season.

I'm doing the same thing. But only because I'm lucky enough that he is my #5 WR and probably won't play much outside of bye weeks. If he was a weekly starter, I would keep him.

However, I'll also be shopping my #3 and #4 WRs. If I can get a nice haul for them, then I'll keep Ridley.

But that is an "IF" that other guys in the same range don't have.

Drafting well comes down to understanding the range of outcomes for players.

There's a lot of "If things go right" and "I think things will go right."

But Ridley has a significantly higher chance of guys that will be valued around him of things NOT going right. He has missed the majority of the last two seasons. The last time we saw him on the field, it wasn't good. There's the mental health concerns.

IF everything works out, yes, he can be very good. But I remember thinking everything was going to work out in 2021--and he had significantly fewer red flags then.

Everyone eventually becomes a sell. He's 28, he'll be 29 at the end of the season. People will be much more skeptical of buying 29 year olds going into their age 30 season. This may be the highest his value gets the rest of his career.

He may come out of the gate red hot and get you a little bit more in trade. But he may also bust and lose value and then he quickly becomes hard to trade.

Even if you think he's going to be good, the getting isn't going to be much better.

Everyone eventually becomes a sell. He's 28, he'll be 29 at the end of the season. People will be much more skeptical of buying 29 year olds going into their age 30 season. This may be the highest his value gets the rest of his career.

He may come out of the gate red hot and get you a little bit more in trade. But he may also bust and lose value and then he quickly becomes hard to trade.

Totally agreed. I will agree with some others there is risk there but I think that is more due to his mental health and being off almost 2 years instead of it having much to do with what else is in Jax already.

Also been offered 1.04 for Etienne which woikd allow me to take Bijan at 1.01 and a QB at 1.04

I don't play SF in Dynasty personally and would love to have Allen here but losing Bijan/Etienne/Dobbins would be tough. Not sure I could pull that trigger due to roster construction more so than value as Allen is worth it but I would hate my RB room in that scenario and I already am not crazy impressed with the WR room so hard to see a winning team in that situation.

I get what you’re saying. The other side of this to me is …

Just about everything I listen to and read says if you have a chance to get a hold of 2 of the top 9 QBs do it and work the rest out. This is arguably 2 of the top 3 QBs I’d have.

Who knows the longevity of Geno Smith, so I def need another top QB at some point.

The consensus 1.01 is Bijan and I’m loaded at RB. Oh what I’d give for it to be the year of Caleb/Maye because honestly to me 1.01 isn’t an auto Bijan in this league. People value QBs so high and RBs so low. Stuck as what to do.

Alternatives

1.01ish for Fields or Watson might be possible

Go for broke and take my QB choice at 1.01

Draft Bijan and use Etienne to get another QB or WR.

I have zero Ridley and plan to keep it that way.

People seem to think he's going to come in with Lawrence and immediately be a WR1. And maybe it works that way. He has shown the talent to be an Elite WR1. He's certainly capable.

On the flip side, he was on a bad Atlanta team without any real competition for targets and was brutal through a handful of games. Then he stepped away for his mental health. The mental health to me is a huge red flag--especially for dynasty. I applaud him for recognizing he needs help and getting it. I just worry it could be an issue again in the future.

He's been gone the majority of two seasons. Can he come back and be the same guy that was dominating? Maybe. But he may also may not. Jacksonville's receiving group isn't a bunch of scrubs. And they're guys that have had time to develop chemistry with Lawrence.

He's 28. He MAY give you 3 to 4 good years. But he may also have another issue flare up at any point. If you own him, I think you sell into the hype.

I sold him in 1 league for pennies on the dollar. I wish I'd held until now. But I also was happy not to have him clogging up a roster spot for an entire year.

Short version, selling him is the right move.

I still feel Kirk will will be the WR1 and some are underestimated him. Kirk put up solid numbers and matched up against team's top corners. With Ridley, his numbers should improve. I would be selling Ridley if I had him to someone who thinks he's WR1 in Jacksonville. His value may never be higher than now.

I’d imagine the obvious route would be to strike away the 1.09 and Dobbins from both sides of the deal. Ultimately, an RB selected there could turn out better than Dobbins but it’s more of an unknown, he has the more immediate and established expectancy of putting up points

Even if you think he's going to be good, the getting isn't going to be much better.

First and foremost, I would also advocate for selling every one of those guys.

Jones isn't a bad receiver and had a big fantasy day or two. He's not really fantasy-relevant, but he's professionally relevant. Just because his career started out poorly in Buffalo doesn't mean he didn't show well in Oakland, either. He was behind two rookies Oakland was trying to get involved in Ruggs and Bryan Edwards. Jones wound up starting for them when everything went down that year with Ruggs and Edwards disappeared. Jones is getting paid by Jacksonville. He might be JAG, but he's a starting Jag, if you know what I'm throwing down.

In other words, not fantasy relevant, and not enough to challenge Ridley, but something to think about when thinking about target distribution.

Understatement of the year. He was the definition of mediocre. Took 131 targets to get to 820 yards.

He had two good games and a few OK ones. Most were pretty bad. That was in a high volume pass offense too. He won’t come close to 2022 target level.

At face value, yes. Get Allen. Allen/Hurts is a monstrous 1-2 at QB.

Geno isn’t a long term dude and I’m not even sure he can replicate 2022. But he is valuable in the barren wasteland that is QB in 2023x

It’s a bit of an overpay, maybe by as much as Dobbins. But that’s what it takes to pry Allen away from someone and I would definitely do this. I’d do it 100/100 times because it sets you up for the long term, and also because opportunities to get a Josh Allen in SF are extremely rare.

RBs come and go. I overpaid for TLaw recently for the exact same reason. And for Fields in another league. It’s both immediately beneficial, and secures your future at the hardest position to fill in that format.

Fine but you painted that as something specific to Ridley and it's not and all of those players are valued higher then him so so to say his value can't go up is not something I agree with.

None of those guys missed time due to mental health. None of those guys have missed most of the last 2 years.

This not only means zero to but does not even match the fact that Ridley's had less wear and tear on his body then those players, is younger then all of them, and is more motivated then any of them to see future paydays. I'll take that over what you paint as concerns.

I wouldn't take the deal. I'd consider it if you had weak QBs, but you've got Hurts.

As to the bolded, just take Bijan. If you are considering taking a QB instead, then trade down to 1.02 or 1.03.

This seems like a win-now team, especially with the 1.01. Geno is fine for that purpose. Worry about this year.

If he can get it done without the 1.01, or without Dobbins/ETN, it’s a good long term move.

Get Allen if you can’t just don’t overpay by too much.

If @TartanLion could get Allen for only 2 pieces - one of which is not another elite QB, that would be a heist of epic proportions. Etienne/1.04 is a good deal to consider too.
But I agree that getting Allen to pair with Hurts sets the team up better to build around those 2 pillars. Depending on league scoring, the 2 QBs could carry the team to a W basically by themselves. Prioritize premium players at premium positions. Fill in around them. Easier to find a higher percentage of replacement production at RB at a fraction of the cost.
