Been having trouble building depth since all I had were my 2025 picks. Figured I’d take a chance at a RB I like to flip in-season if he outperforms expectations.

At worst I have RB depth behind Bijan, ETN, AJD, & Mattison. Maybe ahead of Mattison.

At best I can move a RB for a WR upgrade during the season. The 2025 1st was tough to move. RBs aren’t.

I hate to be that guy but I really really really don't like the fields for Watson move. Even if you think they're equal the concensus is that Fields is worth much more than Watson, and you should have been able to get at least a late 1st round pick along with Watson. You sold super low for a player who was terrible last year and hadn't played two years previous for an up and coming young star.

Be that guy. I'd love to see any deal with Watson+1st for Fields. Are those deals real?

Even if you prefer Watson to Fields the thing is that most don’t do you extract more from the Watson owner or trade Fields to another owner of the Watson owner values Watson more (again, most won’t). I am a Cleveland fan, absolutely. But speaking purely from a fantasy standpoint, I absolutely think of him as a top5 QB. He's already shown it.
Some time already on the field last szn to shake off the rust and now a full offseason WITH the team and some decent weapons, he sits again in my top5 QBs for dynasty. Mahomes, Allen, Burrow, Hurts, Herbert and Deshaun can be jumbled in any order for me as an "elite 6"

When's the last time they knew what they were doing? Didn't everyone with sense agree they had made a big mistake signing him to the amount they had?
He's only a lock to be a huge drag on the browns cap as far as I'm concerned. I don't trust any player who takes an extended time away from the game.

All that said, he's in a pretty good position to excel in the next year or two. How many good QBs change teams and immediately make an impact? I suspect it takes a good while to figure out a playbook on both the QB's side and the OC's side. I expect the Browns staff will make some adjustments to last season's playbook to work with Watson's skillset.

Not safe, but I do expect he will be better this year, having knocked off the rust.

I have a one start QB league with fairly small rosters and I'm stuck carrying Hurts, Watson and Fields. Would obviously like to trade one and the one I'd like to trade is Fields. That's relative to an expected higher return then Watson and long term outlook. Straight up though I'd take Fields and part of that was what looks right now like a hard lesson I learned last offseason. In another one QB start short roster(FFPC) league I was sitting on Herbert, Watson and Hurts.. For what is likely the same rationale as you had with this trade I decided to move Hurts on notion the other two had more longevity. I was thinking with their two #1 picks and Eagles front office analytics that suggest pass heavy approach is the way to winning that Hurts would be shoved out after this season. Now this was all before the AJB trade but I can admit I was dead wrong and I regret that now and in fact tried to buy Hurts back last year using Herbert+ and could not do it.

But long story short I get your rationale, I just would have wanted an little extra thrown my way to turn Fields into Watson.

But speaking purely from a fantasy standpoint, I absolutely think of him as a top5 QB. He's already shown it.

Without any doubt, not even an argument, he's basically been a 25 PPG scorer in standard 4 passing TD leagues every year of his career until last year. I'd also add I think last year was more then just the layoff, a lot of mental stuff or him to deal with going from one of the more pristine reps in the league to basically playing role of the a villian and I have total faith he'll get back to what he was and I'm not a Brown fans.

I have one issue with him however and due to that issue he's my 9th ranked QB. I'm not sure he can handle the elements, the weather. People don't factor that in for last year enough either, after his Texans debut he got served up a load of bad weather games. I'm not sure how he can handle it, heard him say a few years ago he does not like the cold. It won't happen like that every year and it won't likely happen till late in the season when it does happen but that's when all the money and everything is won. That's my biggest knock on him right now.

I don't disagree with the last part. I've been knocking Ridley for the same thing. The difference is Watson wasn't injured, wasn't gambling, and wasn't popping pills. Last year was always going to be a throwaway year. I expect him to bounce back and be the top 5-8 QB he was before the off-field issues.

People say "3 1st" but the thing is you could move pick 7 this year and likely get close to 2 1st for it I seen it done. Seen someone traded pick 6 for 13 and a 1st then trade 13 and 23 for another 1st. So those pick numbers always matter I should been "shrewd" and traded 7 down for a late 1st and more and then traded the guy "3 1st" since he posted "Mahomes available for 3 1st".
I offered the guy 2 1st and 2 2nds he passed then I traded a 2nd+3rd for a future 1st. Picks are just numbers sometimes and people can't see the forest for the trees. At least for me it meant I only technically gave up 2 1st, a 2nd and 3rd in theory as I replaced my own future 1st with that of a projected hopefully better future 1st. I could have dealt that future 1st instead of pick 7 but on the surface I rather have a future mid 1st then this year's 7 but I may have made a mistake as I could have likely traded 7 for a future 1st and more the big question is what future 1st ? If a likely late then I did better to hold. This is true if and only if my evaluation of the other team is correct (plus a little luck as you never know how the season plays out).

I'd also add I think last year was more then just the layoff, a lot of mental stuff or him to deal with going from one of the more pristine reps in the league to basically playing role of the a villian and I have total faith he'll get back to what he was and I'm not a Brown fans.

I have one issue with him however and due to that issue he's my 9th ranked QB. I'm not sure he can handle the elements, the weather. People don't factor that in for last year enough either, after his Texans debut he got served up a load of bad weather games. I'm not sure how he can handle it, heard him say a few years ago he does not like the cold. It won't happen like that every year and it won't likely happen till late in the season when it does happen but that's when all the money and everything is won. That's my biggest knock on him right now.

Agree completely with your DW take. He has shown he's at least the 6th-7thish best QB up to this point. I think people underestimate how difficult it is for anyone, let alone the QB, to start the season midyear. IIRC he wasn't allowed in the facility while suspended. No contact with the team. No practice to get timing right. Everyone on offense had settled into their groove. Entire offense grew accustomed to Jacoby Brissett.

The weather thing is a legit worry for both him and Amari.

Agree on Fields not being long for this league as a starter. Didn't the Bears essentially refuse to pass last year despite losing most of the year?

Fields did improve a little bit as a passer in 2022. At least he is over 60% and had a 17/11 td/int ratio compared to a 7/10 the year before. So, to saying he's "not being long for this league as a starter" is premature to say the least. As long as he's on the field he will be a great fantasy asset because of his legs.

His startup ADP is around pick 20. That also seems steep to use a 2nd round startup pick on a guy who is good for what, a year, or two maybe? Hell he might retire after this year, lol.

That first trade was a little gutsy. If nobody wanted to pay anything for Kelce they woulda been stuck with a 34 year old TE

In a PPR 12 team NON-TE Prem DEVY league (can draft rookies or underclassman) traded Kelce (33 years old) and Aaron Jones (28 years old) for Cam Akers (23 years old) and probably a mid 2024 1st round pick? Keeping in mind we can draft college underclassman and regular rookies.

It was hard for me to trade Kelce given how scarce the position is. Got to do it sometime, so why not now? Better a year too early than a year too late. I think Kelce will be viable for more than one year, but maybe not the Kelce we think?

I'd be ok moving Kelce for the right move but not sure this is it. I don't like Akers much so the only reason that is an upgrade to Jones is age. Kelce is worth more than a 24 mid 1st to me but I'm competing and it would take more than that for me. Like maybe if I thought the pick could be a top couple pick and get me Marvin Harrison Jr. or Caleb Williams.

DEVY is a whole different animal. Even 3rd round picks are more valuable than your standard dynasty leagues because we can draft 15 underclassman and that usually extends into the 3rd round. So a mid-1st in DEVY is a lot more valuable than a 1st in a standard dynasty league. While lots of major rookies will already be on a roster, there are always top underclassman available. Plus, because people are drafting underclassman, better regular rookies fall further. As for Akers, he really started coming on late last year and he's 23, so moving off of Jones for that is a good thing. I can be a contender, so moving Kelce will hurt, but I think the in the long run I'm better off doing it for what I got. I could be wrong and most here have the dynasty or redraft mindset, not the DEVY mindset.

I missed the DEVY thing and don't play any of that myself so sorry about that. I was referring to regular dynasty. Probably are better in the long term I just like to win and a chip now is way better than hope for the future to me. I could see why picks could be more valuable in that league and if you believe in Akers this makes more sense too.

I hate to be that guy but I really really really don't like the fields for Watson move. Even if you think they're equal the concensus is that Fields is worth much more than Watson, and you should have been able to get at least a late 1st round pick along with Watson. You sold super low for a player who was terrible last year and hadn't played two years previous for an up and coming young star.

Be that guy. I'd love to see any deal with Watson+1st for Fields. Are those deals real?

The air in your voice makes it sound like Fields is a locked-in franchise QB. Watson is proven although he isn't the "sexy" commodity. I like franchise QB's over the next hot thing unless I'm a "believer". You may be right at the end pf the day. To be determined!

There's maybe 3-4-5 QBs id take over watson, but if you believe in a guy, grab him.

I don't understand how you guys can consider Watson a safe bet. Besides the fact that he's 2 years and a terrible few games out of practice, this is Cleveland that gave him a huge contract. When's the last time they knew what they were doing? Didn't everyone with sense agree they had made a big mistake signing him to the amount they had?
He's only a lock to be a huge drag on the browns cap as far as I'm concerned. I don't trust any player who takes an extended time away from the game.

I totally agree with you and he doesn't have D-Hop any more. Plus, it gets cold in Cleveland so offense will slow down more there as the season goes on than it did in Houston. I like Watson to bounce back this year but I think blindly throwing him in to the top 5 is a little presumptuous to say the least. I'd prefer Fields personally and I don't trust many people wearing Browns uniforms.

Totality of trades is awesome for a rebuilding team.

I don't view getting Kelce in the original trade as risky since you were shedding two older players, or two players I'd project as having a similar shelf life to Kelce, so to me that mitigated the risk and you were still getting back the only young valued asset of the group.

I realize Kelce is 4 years older then Evans when I say they have a similar shelf life, Kelce just looks like he has more gas left in his tank and Jacobs, who seems older to me then he is, just seems like a 2-3 year window player relative to the position.

Crazy thing is I recall two years ago discussing Kelce on these boards and how people were still using late first round startup picks on a 32 year old TE. That's not something I would ever be able to do but his value has only dropped a little in the last two years, for sure could have a made a lot of worse investments. I can't think of a non-QB, or even a QB, that has held that much value at his age since I've been playing dynasty(which did not cover the Jerry Rice era)

Lastly I have a contending team, that is loaded with Chiefs and I love the Mahomes/Kelce hookup. I would still trade Kelce for Kincaid and a 2024#1 so can't like that deal enough for a rebuilding team.

Not to nitpick but Watson's best season of his career was his last season in Houston without Hopkins plus he lost Will Fuller in-season and was not really working with much. His weapons right now in totality are as good or better then any point in his career IMO and not even close to what he was working with in his best statistical season, which was his last full season.

I'd have to look at his last season but D-Hop/Fuller are miles better than Amari Cooper/DPJ/Elijah Moore. Not sure how you figure these are the best weapons of his career. He also, is in a very different offense than he was in Houston and playing outside. I think he bounces back but his days of being a top 5 QB are over IMO.
