** Official ** Eagles 2008 Thread (1 Viewer)

That was mercifully disapointing. Basically the Eagles have no idea what his problem is, and he will be meeting with his agent tomorrow. We assume that the team will get filled in after that. Gargano also doesn't think it is contractual. The trade question was said to be an "emotional" reaction late last night by the brass. Apparently Andrews has a long list of antics...
pretty cool we knew much of this hours before it was reported on 610. Thanks as always DH!

As much as I would love to see Boldin in a Birds uni, Do we really have enough OL depth to be trading a pro bowl gaurd and future tackle?

Somebody on the Eagles board actually brought up a chilling point - what if this was the player CSN was talking about who was threatening to retire that would "shock everyone" ???

if there's one position i trust Andy Reid with, its OL. I'm confident he can find starters in the draft and even off the street.

I know the Eagles tried to trade up to get Brandon Albert (I think that's his name), so maybe it was because they knew Andrews is a flake and could pull what he's pulling right now at any time?

That would make total sense. This sucks hard.

If it's personal issues, I think the Eagles really should stand by him, and help him through it. Last year, another member of the organization had significant personal issues.

Seems like Asante injured himself at camp. No link, just accounts from someone attending. Seems like a hamstring injury from what they're saying. How much money did you want again Lito...?

Booker is lining up at WR on 11-11 drills today. ;)
Not real surprised. I can picture teh Eagles coming out with both Booker and Westbrook in the backfiled and motioning one of them out to the slot, then throwing the swing pass to the other one going the other direction.

SHEPPARD, AGENT MEET WITH REID, BANNER

Posted by Mike Florio on July 26, 2008, 11:03 p.m. EDT

A source with knowledge of the situation tells us that Eagles cornerback Lito Sheppard and agent Drew Rosenhaus held on Saturday a sit-down with Eagles coach Andy Reid and team president Joe Banner.

The meeting was described as calm and productive. Sheppard still wants a trade or a new contract.

The Saturday hamstring injury to Asante Samuel might have caused the Eagles to realize that it would be prudent to keep both Samuel and Sheppard. If they do, however, they’ll likely need to bump up Sheppard’s salary significantly.

Sheppard is signed through 2011, at salaries of $2 million, $3 million, $3.7 million, and $4.25 million, respectively over the next four seasons.

With Cardinals receiver Anquan Boldin unhappy in Arizona and resigned to departing once his contract expires after the 2010 season, a trade of Sheppard for Boldin might make sense. The Eagles likely would have to kick in a little bit more to even out the package, and both teams would have to be ready to pony up the cash to the player received via any such transaction.

Sigh.

7/28/08 … 8:00 amDE Victor Abiamiri injured his right wrist in Sunday morning's practice and may miss a significant amount of action in training camp, according to coach Andy Reid. He is going to undergo further tests and evaluations by doctors today. Heading into his second season, the 2007 second round draft pick from Notre Dame is slated to play a big role in the Eagles defensive line rotation.

Sorry, no. Also, it doesn't sound like Samuel's injury is too bad. He'll sit a few days and they'll go from there. Hammy's have a reputation for lingering though, so I'd expect them to be be very cautious.

Dislocated wrist. I thought this TC was important for Victor to get in shape to play a big role this season. So much for that.

You can literally set your watch to the annual killer injury this team suffers in traning camp. I was really looking forward to having him in the DE rotation. Ridicolous.

I'm thinking early October. I've been hearing Howard has looked good, the difference between night and day from what he's done so far with the Birds. If that is the case then i'm not too upset with this set back for Abiamiri.

Westy is asking for $30mil over 3 years

Swami says: I see a RB in the 1st rd of the 2009 draft for the Iggles.

This is either a poorly thought out negotiating ploy, or Westy is delusional. I'm sure teams will be lining up to hand over $30 mil to a 29 yr old RB with a LOOOOONG history of knee and ankle issues
I'm pretty sure it won't happen, but I have no problem with the Eagles paying him that amount. He most assuredly earned it. The Eagles O doesn't go very far without him......Booker or not. He will be in camp and a holdout is highly unlikely in my opinion. I say pay him. Pay him well. Maybe not what he is currently asking for, but at least more than they supposedly originally offerred. Westbrook is worth every penny to keep him in Eagles green for the remainder of his career.
I think if they should pay anyone its Lito. After giving Asante the keys the to the Linc, Lito is drastically underpaid. As for Westy, he just signed his new deal a couple years ago and i'm sure it had a nice chunk of guaranteed money in it. If anything, i'd say you put in some games played incentives to the contract. Other than that, sorry Westy, you shouldnt have signed a 5 year deal at age 27 if you didnt think it was your BIG payday. Everyone knows (most) RBs flame out after 30 and very few get paid big bucks around that magic #. Just look at the SA deal in Seattle. They paid him for past performance instead of future performance and see how that worked out?
I’m honestly amazed at how you think the Eagles should just kick far and away their best player to the curb. Westbrook is the 14th highest paid running back, and signed a long term deal when he hadn’t yet even recorded 200 carries in a season. Sure, let’s laugh and say boo hoo sorry West when the guy was more concerned about family and job security and being in a city he loves unlike so many other players who are only in it for the money. Ridiculous.By comparison, Westbrook has 700 fewer carries than Portis, 1100 fewer carries than Jamal Lewis, 1300 fewer carries than LT, and 1800 fewer carries than Edge. And at the time Alexander got his raise he had 700 more carries than Westbrook does now. The guy DESERVES to get paid. Without him on the team I honestly believe the chance of winning a Super Bowl is exactly 0%, and he knows that becoming a free agent after 30 will probably prevent him from getting a big pay day then. I don’t blame him.

I really hope the team does decide to change their history and reward our best player for literally carrying this team on his back these past 2 years. He probably will do it again.
:goodposting:
 definitely not a  You're confusing "kicking him to the curb" with "making him honor the contract he signed". I never said they should get rid of him. IIRC Westy is under contract for the next 3 years. This is a contract he signed ONLY 2 years ago. I dont agree with renegotiating a contract that is not even half way completed yet. Andi know that the Eagles Front Office doesnt like to redo contracts, period. So, while i dont blame Westy for trying to get more, i stand by my statement; "Sorry, you shouldnt have signed that long term deal at age 27 if you thought you deserved more". Again, if they want to put in some incentives to his current contract, i'm all for that. Put in some games played clauses, a super bowl clause, a pro bowl clause, a 1500 yd season clause. Fine. i just dont agree with tearing up the old contract and throwing 30 million in guaranteed money at the guy.

As for the stats you threw up there, they're meaningless. Westy's knees are so bad that he cant even practice during the week. So i dont really care how many fewer carries he has than a random selection of RBs, he is still close to the end. That may be 1 more good year, it may be 3. The point is you dont know and all signs are pointing to trouble ahead for Westy.

Trust me, as a lifelong Eagles fan, i wish they would make everyone happy on that team and pay them and also go out and sign a big #1 WR. But, as a logical person, i dont agree with overpaying an aging RB based on their past performance
As a Cowboys fan I apologize for crashing the party, but this posting sums it all up. Your beloved Eagles should be named the Brian Westbrooks because that's all you've got. McNabb to Kevin Curtis isn't exactly salty, and though your DEF looks fairly tough you're still #4 on the NFC East depth chart. Why? Because your front office perceives the game like holme-skillet above. You take care of the players that take care of you and they shut up and catch 15 TD's per. YOU'RE $19 MILLION UNDER THE CAP AND YOU CAN'T PAY THE ONE PLAYER YOU'VE GOT? You release Westy this morning and he picks up $30 million by lunch. It'd be one thing if y'all were allocating that $19 million toward some actual talent at WR, but my bet is your front office has looked around the East, given up on the foreseeable future, and is now looking to conserve some money. Sorry, Beagles...you had your chance, now back to the doghouse...

Is anyone watching the training camp videos on PE.com? They're allright and something to take up the time til the season starts. Booker looks pretty good so far. He's also clinched the KR duties. No Mahe on speeddial this year :-)

Thank God. I was at the Green Bay game last year, and they're returners were horrible before Mahe came back and not much better after he came back.

Isn't that supposed to be DeSean Jackson's specialty?

He is a PR - one of the best ever in college football - was never a KR as far as I know. Booker and Demps as KRs will be much more exciting than in years past, methinks...

I know this will never happen for a lot of reasons, but barring a miracle and us landing Bolden is there anyone else that wouldn't mind the birds take a shot on Chris Henry when the suspension is lifted? Maybe getting cut by Cincy and being flat broke woke him up a bit. He comes from a different system, but I'd have to think he'd be a threat almost immediately anyhow...

Any news on Andrews yet? I have not heard anything lately. Did his agent talk to the Birds yet?
I havent much about this other than this:
ANDREWS SPEAKS, BUT SAYS NOTHINGPosted by Mike Florio on July 29, 2008, 5:18 p.m. EDTEagles guard Shawn Andrews has given an interview to ESPN Radio in Philly, during which he addressed rampant rumors regarding his five-days-and-counting unexcused absence from the team."You can let everyone know all the rumors are not true,” Andrews said. "From contractual to retirement, and God knows whatever else is being said. I’m prayed up right now and trying to get right though. ”OK, so if you’re going to say the rumors (whatever they are) aren’t true, why not say what’s really going on? Providing information is usually a pretty effective way to quash uninformed speculation.
and then speculation by Cobb
Nearly every year Quick would hold out of training camp for one reason or another. He would come in the next last week of camp or the final week of camp. His legs would be fresh and he would start flying by all of our cornerbacks in practice. All the players on the team knew Quick would be in near of the end of training camp. We weren't worried about it at all. The media would ask us questions and we wouldn't take them seriously because we knew he was fine and would be into camp soon. That might be the case here with Andrews.""When Brian Westbrook said yesterday that he had spoken to Andrews but wasn't concerned about the situation and felt he would be in camp, it made a bell go off in my head. That bell went off again today when I was standing next to former Eagles great Mike Quick, a "Hall Of Famer" when it came to holding out of camp.
Although this doesnt make sense since DH told us Reid was PO'ed about Andrews... I guess we'll see. It seems like Max is holding his own at RG though.

According to PFT this morning, Andrews doesn't want to risk injury coming into training camp. That or he wants guaranteed money, so if he does get injured, he still gets paid.

Oooh, the Cowboys are sooo good we should just give up now.
Given the talent level of the Giants, Redskins, and Cowboys coupled with your front office's propensity to irritate and alienate it's most talented players...yes. Just shut down shop and take a vacation from the NFL for the next few years and save yourself the heartache.Just good, solid advice coming from a guy that regrets paying attention during the 'Gailey-Campo-Quincy Carter-Jerry as GM and sole decision maker' era of the Boys.

Read, digest, and comprehend. The reference to problems with the entourage versus problems with the player is about Pacman. Last I checked Pacman hasn't failed any drug tests, provided alcohol to minors, received any DWI's, etc. Pacman is absolutely a knucklehead--no doubt--but most of his problems stemmed from being at the wrong place with the wrong friends, though he did slap a stripper...but c'mon, what are the odds she didn't deserve it? :excited: Eh, maybe you're right, but if Pacman is a Stage 4 knucklehead, then Henry is surely a Stage 5...and Stage 4 is as high as we're willing to go for talent...
