Official EJ Manuel (1 Viewer)

Rotoworld:

ABC Buffalo's Joe Buscaglia believes it's "fair" to say E.J. Manuel has been the Bills' third-best quarterback in camp.

Any way you look at it, Manuel has fallen behind Tyrod Taylor in the battle to back up journeyman Matt Cassel. Manuel's raw talent hasn't disappeared, but it has been his rawness that's defined him through two NFL seasons. He's looking unlikely to make starts for Rex Ryan's offense this season, and might not even make the team.

Weird, because other reports say Cassell has been the worst by far.
Cassel is only one to work with 1s every day in camp. Staff probably wants Taylor to win job, but from reports 1 guy is best 1 day and worst the next. No consistency from any QB. Cassell most likely will start season. Very frustrating with EJ because even reports from Jets camp (prior to busted jaw) were that Geno Smith was much improved from previous year. No such reports like that on EJ.

This is a "tie goes to the runner thing"

All have been about the same, but since they have favored the vet from the start and Taylor is "Rex's guy" that they are hoping will step up and win the job, the narrative becomes "EJ hasnt progressed.

Notice how they dont say that the other two guys (with more league experience) havent progressed...even though play has been about the same.

Regardless they need to pick someone and are better off cutting this to a two man race ASAP to maximize practice time for whoever wins. Appearances are that EJ is the one who is out.

Rotoworld:

Speaking Sunday, coach Rex Ryan announced E.J. Manuel will quarterback the third-team offense in Buffalo's second preseason game.

Manuel also practiced with the threes in Sunday's session. He's clearly fallen behind Tyrod Taylor and Matt Cassel on the depth chart. Cassel started Buffalo's exhibition opener, while Taylor will start the second preseason game. Rex did say Manuel will play the most snaps in the second exhibition affair.

Rotoworld:

The Buffalo News' Vic Carucci believes there's been "nothing at camp that indicates" E.J. Manuel is a serious contender for the Bills' starting job.

This has been the consensus all summer long, making it all the more baffling that coach Rex Ryan has decided Manuel will start this weekend's regular season dress rehearsal over Tyrod Taylor and Matt Cassel. The most sensible theory is that Ryan is trying to throw the Colts off before Week 1, but Ryan has to know presumptive starter Taylor needs all the preseason reps with the 1s he can get. Perhaps the Bills believe Manuel could generate trade interest with a decent showing. Whatever the reasoning, it's hard to understand.

Finally a Rotoworld quote I agree with.

Oh EJ, if only the regular season was like preseason, when teams like the Steelers never blitz and you have time to pick your nose before throwing the ball.

He looks good, people, yes, but keep in mind what we're watching.

This hasn't stopped people from comparing Bortles to Rothlisberger.

It also hasn't stopped people from huping Taylor to no end and it's the same, base D's. Actually worse. 3rd preseason game actually offers more of the playbook.

Clay was wide open. Shazier fell down in coveragem. But good for EJ.

And to play the other side, the only Bills passing TDs in preseason so far are from EJ.

Rotoworld:

E.J. Manuel competed 7-of-8 passes for 170 yards and two touchdowns in Buffalo's third preseason game.

Manuel started and played the first two series, throwing a 67-yard touchdown to a wide-open Charles Clay. He re-entered the game in the third quarter and immediately threw a second touchdown. Manuel is now 20-of-30 passing for 358 yards and four touchdowns through three preseason games. The Bills starting quarterback will likely come down to Manuel or Tyrod Taylor.

E.J. Manuel - QB - Bills

E.J. Manuel is expected to open the season as the Bills' No. 2 quarterback.

He's earned it with a phenomenal preseason. Manuel has completed 20-of-30 passes (66.7 percent) for 358 yards (11.9 YPA) and a 4:0 TD:INT ratio. GM Doug Whaley still "strongly supports" Manuel, whom Whaley picked 16th overall in 2013. Matt Cassel is expected to be released by Saturday afternoon.

If he could practice as well as he plays in preseason, he'd be the starter. The was just awful in training camp though. That he's even on the roster is something, that he's starting as the #2 QB is a hell of an accomplishment.

This news changes my drop for a waiver claim from EJ to Escobar in a 2QB league. I'll drop Manuel next week.

2 QB league. Rodgers on bye week 7. Picked up Manuel on ww over Cassel. Now hearing T.Taylor may play. Went from may miss a couple(few) weeks to may play in one morning. News is not what it once was.

Ian Rappaport reported this morning that if Manuel played well he could take over the starter's job. No clue who was trolling him in the organization, but it's pretty funny

Rotoworld:

E.J. Manuel completed 24-of-42 passes for 298 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions in the Week 7 loss to the Jaguars in London.
Manuel was a disaster for most of the first half and turned the ball over three times in a span of six plays in the second quarter. The fumble and one of the interceptions were returned for touchdowns, and the second interception was converted into a touchdown on a 28-yard run by T.J. Yeldon three plays later. Manuel stared down his receivers all half, and he blew the Bills' best scoring chance of the first quarter by badly overthrowing a wide-open Chris Gragg in the end zone after not seeing a wide-open Charles Clay inside the five. OC Greg Roman seemed to make adjustments to the offense following the interceptions, funneling throws to Robert Woods and Chris Hogan on the sidelines. Manuel responded to the changes by making a great throw to Woods for a touchdown and leading a field-goal drive to close out the half. He continued to move the ball effectively in the second half, and the Bills managed to take the lead with 18 points in the fourth quarter including a 58-yard bomb from Manue
