*** Official Elden Ring Thread - We finally got a DLC and it's really really hard (1 Viewer)

Been farming there for days. That's also in the area where you can drag the boss at night though the poison trap field for 42000 runes. Also the chessy ball thing that gives you 1950 runes when you successfully pull it off.

Thanks for letting us all know!  jk 🤣

Found a couple of more rune farming places. If you go from the third  church of Marika there's a portal that takes you to a area where there are about 6 or 7 guys you can easily kill that give 1035 runes. Also if you go around the Dragon on the bridge there's a chessy ball thing you can keep triggering that gives you over 2000 runes but it's not always consistent.  Also in that area is a boss who only spawns at night. You can drag him through a poison trap field that will kill him giving you 42000 runes.

Yes. Level up the jelly.  Hes a beast.

I'm lvl 30.   You should be good.  Prepare for a long ### dungeon but at least there are a few save points.
I can't find my way out of there. Probably need to research it some. In the mean time I found a path around the castle and moved into the next area.

I started Stormveil last night.  It's challenging.  I got a good chunk of the way in and logged off for the evening.

Then I watched a video of another guy doing that area.  He went through the front gate and had a totally different experience than me, but he eventually wrapped around and started going backwards through the area that I had already cleared.  This makes me worry a bit that it may be easier to get lost and/or turned around in some of the larger dungeons than what I'm used to in these games. Not a complaint, just an observation.

Edit to add: #### those eagles, and #### that knight that you have to fight in that little closet.

Yeah I can't find my way out from my last grace point in there. Went two different ways and both times ended back at the same grace point. Probably need to jump down somewhere. I eventually just found a path around the castle on the right side and moved into a new area.

yeah i just ran in there and swiped the key and then ran out.  that knight in the dark was a bit much for me when i went through

Did find a vendor setting by a campfire in the wilds who sold a lantern you can attach to your belt. Much better then having to carry the touch.

Edited to add. Another vendor who sold a medallion that  added between 20 to 30 HP. Can't tell you where I was just out exploring.

have you guys done much with the flask of physiks?  I have a few different options to mix.  The big tree mini boss in weeping pennisula drops a couple.  hes not too hard

I haven't done anything with mine yet.  The things I can mix together are too weak and pointless to be worth the quick-equip spot, but I'm sure that will definitely change when I get around to investing some time into finding stuff for it.

That's what I did too.  But I hate leaving survivors behind in these games.  It's the principle of the thing.

Yea, this will be what I do. I was not ready for that, and died quickly, leaving a good number of runes behind. Had to go back in to rush and get my runes back. Then i called it a night. I'll spend the runes and then get that key tonight.

Where is this key? What does it open? Last night I worked my way to a grace point behind all the enemy soldiers but in front of a bridge guarded by two giants. Figured out there's a third giant with a huge bow that after I start a fight with the first giant he will eventually kill the other two. Getting by him is fairly easy.  On the other side is a door I can't open. Is that what the key is for?

This is Stormveil Castle going through the "secret entrance."  The key in question opens a locked door very close by.  Behind the locked door is a ladder that takes you to another grace point.  (I think you may need to sneak past another knight or something, but you get the idea).  What you're describing sounds like an entirely different path.

The key that we're all talking about is in a very small room with a knight who absolutely wrecked me 5-6 or so times before I gave up and just grabbed the key.

No, I'm/we're talking about Stormveil castle. You avoid the front gate, and sneak around, fight some annoying eagles, a few guys on ramparts / bomb throwers. There's a locked door to progress further, and the key is guarded by this knight in a dark room, and it's a tough, tough fight.

The giants you speak of... that's on another part of the map. I think I ran past them doing something else, but I forgot what it was now.

I killed him a while back. I'm at the bridge with the giants. There's a stairway that so far I haven't been able to get by the guy at the top of the stairs with a fire cannon. I can get one shot on him but so far can't get a second before he just continues peppering the whole area. That stairway is just before the bridge. On the other side of the bridge is a portal that took me to a door I can't open. Maybe need to kill the boss in the castle?

Ok got that key.. There's a second way into that room and he's on the other side. Maybe it's available after opening the door. My mage took him out fairly quick

Also in the area before the bridge is a mini boss I quess that's  what they are. The spirts I used keep him pretty much ingaged while I killed him.

I’m finding weapons and are hard to come by.

What are you guys using as your weapons?
I'm using the greatsword that you find at Gatefront Ruins.  You undoubtedly have this already.  I got it up to +3 and switched to magic scaling, but I have plenty of upgrade materials to boost it another couple of levels.  I feel like I should look around a little though and see if I find something better first.  The problem is that I don't want to put any more levels into STR or DEX than I absolutely have to, which rules out some pretty cool-looking weapons like the Butchering Knife.  Then again, I'm just doing PVE so what do I care if I waste some levels.

Godrick was a freaking joke compared to the entire dungeon that led up to him.  Now granted, I had an NPC summons and the jellyfish in tow, but still.  Piece of cake.

Afterward, I was able to work my way backwards and find the route that lets you skip the castle entirely.  I assume this is a mandatory boss so I guess you'd have to come back here anyway, but I like that there's a build-in sequence skip.

Stormveil Castle was pretty awesome, but it was also hard to navigate.  I did not find this location to be at all intuitive.  Now I realize that I covered more ground than I really needed to, and I could have gotten to the boss at least slightly more straightforwardly than I did.  Oh well.  The little tailor guy was waiting for me on the other side, so now I have so nice-looking duds to impress the people I meet when I start to explore the next region tomorrow.

I’m level 72 and still haven’t gone to the castle to fight Magrit yet. I keep finding new goals and distractions to improve my damage, and also did a little rune farming using the Boulder trick posted above. Being this high level is nice because it gives you a much higher margin for error, but things can still kill you if you aren’t careful.

Currently farming smithing stones. I’m at +7 on my Greatsword.

I’m closing in on level 30. I put nearly everything into INT. Haven’t branched out to STR or DEX yet. Given that DEX increases casting speed it seems like that’s the way to go. Do I wanna be another Katana Bro?

Weapon - Im using a regular axe from the two headed Skelton vendor at the round table hub.

Magic - Up until recently I pretty much only used one spell, “Magic Glintblade”.

Glyntstone Arc - This spell is especially effective at clearing out multiple targets at once. This spell send out a wide horizontal beam of Magic’s energy.

I bought a extra memory (spell) slot for $3k. I keep the magic weapon spell here but haven’t played with it yet.

I basically go in a dungeon or just exploring with a axe & shield. I use stealth a lot and save my magic for the bosses or emergencies.

I have now occasionally took out a small mob of enemies just to regain a pot.

The horse mechanic where there is not a long mount/de-mount animation is genius.

I really don’t have any sense of where or what to do but that doesn’t matter because almost everywhere you turn there is a new path or unique boss at the end of one.

Nothing new but you’ll need a guide to have any hope of completing the NPC quests.

My biggest tip that I wish I knew myself earlier would be to mark all the vendor locations on your map when you find them. Early on I found a least six or seven of them but I only marked a couple on my map.

Putting this here because I immediately recognized exactly what this was the first time I saw it, and it's amazing to me that anybody didn't.  But I'm the guy who didn't realize that you could get a torch, crafting equipment, the thing that puts ashes of war on your weapon, and spirit summons in the first 15 minutes or so of the game.  (I know now that you were technically supposed to come back for the spirit summons, but I totally missed that one and didn't get them until I got to Roundtable).

I like the way FromSoft puts stuff like this in the physical world instead of just settling on making it "gamey."  Like the way their games -- that famously lack any checkpoints -- are actually littered with checkpoints but they take the form of unlockable shortcuts instead of invisible respawn points.

That is a good idea. Look up Royal House Scrolls.  They let you learn new spells. Ones in the starting area. Easy to get. The Carain Slicer is nice,. turns your staff into a sword.Plus Glintblade Phalanx where you have floating daggers. Here's a good video if you're playing a mage.

72?  Wow

While this is insanely easy……why would I do this? Then what is the point of actually playing the game and earning it.

It is a total exploit and I am absolutely not doing this.

Everyone can play how they want and I appreciate all the tips in the thread….but if I did this it would personally ruin the entire point of me playing this game.

Anyway I am having an amazing time adventuring in this world and this may be the best open world action RPG I ever played. The challenge is real and a ton of fun.

Level 20 Samurai Ninja with destruction (fire) incantation’s.

He is known as Shinobi.

I am at Castle Morne trying to clear this out and deliver the girls letter to her father (who is holed up in this castle and the King of it).

Jesus it has been hard…..but we are close. Had to pause for some rest…..the intensity of the game is insane.

I spent all day just wandering aimlessly, which was a lot of fun.  It seemed like I could more or less handle the enemies to the NW (Liurnia) so I went that way.  Cleared out some camps, did a dungeon, killed a few random bosses, and eventually made my way to Caria Manor.  The boss there is giving me more trouble than he should, I think.  Specifically, my spirit summon is dying too fast, but I'll get him later.

I only have VIT=20, but I notice that nearly everything in this game is more or less two-hitting me.  I don't think I'm under-leveled for this area because I'm doing perfectly fine damage, but I get absolutely wrecked if I make the slightest slip-up in melee combat.  It looks like Souls on the surface, but the combat is a little different in ways that I'm having a hard time adjusting to.  For example, not being able to roll through attacks and hit back.

Have you played other Souls games? Because they all have an exploit or three. It's part of the game.

To be honest, these only work to a certain degree. Due to the design, you need more and more souls to level. At some point, 99% of us get tired of dodging the rock and move on when we're level 20 or whatnot. Which is nothing. Of course, there's that 1% who won't leave until they hit level 100, but whatever.

Plus, with these games, you will never level enough to insta-win. I have been drastically over-leveled for areas, but will still die if I get sloppy.

Any other game, I'd agree with you. But not Fromsoft games. It's a legit part of it.

Yeah this is my first souls game and man…..the challenge is unforgiving….may go farm after-all LOL.

But agree about nit going overboard. And I appreciate this thread because holy mother of god this game is hard.

Here's another tip that kind of seemed "wrong" to me when I was new at these games - you don't have to fight everything. Not at all.

You can just run past a bunch of stuff, which is especially useful when you've gotten all the goodies laying around an area, but still want to get through it. For example, I was in a cave at the North end of the lake in the starting area. I fought my way down to the boss, died, respawned at the fire in the beginning, and just ran right back down to the boss area, never bothering to even look back. 99% of enemies give a short chase and forget about you quickly.

It took a few tries, but I took this guy down.  A lot of these bosses are very kill-able on your first or second try, especially with spirit ashes.  The problem is that when I bump into one that isn't, it takes me longer than it really should because the summon makes it so that you don't really the boss's true moveset.  This time I just went in with no summon and no weapon equipped and just tried to see how long I could stay alive while doing nothing except defending.  After that, I had no problem consistently getting him down to ~25% health or so, even with my summons dying halfway through the fight.  Then it was just a matter of being patient.

Now to make my way through the rest of the area.

Finally progressed and took on Margit.  Level 78 with a +17 Greatsword with Lion's Claw ash of war. 10 potion charges.

Think I uncovered 3/4 of the map.  I think this is as far as I can upgrade without advancing story. I need Smithing Stone 6 to upgrade the sword further and they are all gated by story areas.

Margit went down in 2 hits of my Greatsword's special skill.  I don't know how long this will last, but it feels great to break a souls game like this.
