OK, I have just about a 0 basis in blues knowledge, but seeing how into the Blues you guys are, I'd want to give it a shot (kind of always have, just don't know a lot off the top of my head). Listen to Spotify in the car into and way home from work, any good primer Blues playlists you guys would recommend in this list, or any that you might listen to or have created that you could share? Absolutely agree. Great description. Just love me some great blues.No other music is as visceral, as moving, as raw, as accessible yet somehow mysterious, as the blues. There is nothing better imo. Good thread.

If you like Roomful you should check out Duke Robillard. He's a fantastic blues/jazz guitarist who founded the band and since moved on to a solo career. Also, Ronnie Earl is a great blues guitarist who played with Roomful for a while. He too moved on to record many solo albums. Many of his songs are instrumentals, which I love. Both of these guys play shows all the time in the RI/MA area.

Melvin Taylor is inexplicably unheralded in the blues scene. For the life of me I don't know why. Great electric blues player with a great feel for groove, and a smooth, soulful voice. Here's a link to his full album, "Plays the Blues for You". It's one of my favorite blues albums. First song is a slower instrumental jam to get things warmed up. The groove picks up on track 2.

Great recommendation and newest addition to my Spotify artists! Been listening to a lot of Gary Clark, SRV and Joe B. lately.
Gary Clark Live has been in heavy rotation.
Nothing beats the Blues, great thread. Tim, got any contemporary artists you like? I hear a lot of really great artists on XM Bluesville and love some of the newer stuff from Gary Clark Jr., Popa Chubby, Tommy Castro, Eric Gales ,Joe Bonamassa etc..
I saw Living Colour with Vernon Reid a couple months ago in some little hole in the wall club which holds about 400 people, awesome.
Going back in Feb. to see him at the same club. Tab Benoit playing there too. There is still a lot of great blues based music being made.

After moving to the Chicago suburbs three years ago, I picked up on the radio station at the College of DuPage (largest CC in the state). It’s mostly jazz, but they have some enjoyable themes on their evening broadcasts. Saturday evening and through until early Sunday morning it’s all blues.

Me too. And growing up and living in Chicagoland until 20 years ago, I was always bummed that they didn't have at least one blues stations available. There are some good venues for live music but even then you have to go to the city - maybe one in the year suburbs. I'm trying to remember that one, I think it was on Harlem.
