I'm a Christian and I 100% respect your values. But I hope that what you state doesn't "pigeonhole" you in to a "religious freak" type of guy. You may want to tone down the "God" speak. Mention it once and leave it at that. I may be wrong but I think you'll find more responses
the only thing is I'm not sure I want to date a girl who isn't really religious... I don't wanna deal with the issues that would make...although I really didn't mention God that much, you should see the EHarmony profiles I'm getting from these girls...
OOC please post some of these profiles....You mention God in quite a few of your answers. I'm not knocking it, just saying that it may turn a certain percentage off...

If she isn't, F her! Get used to rejection in iDating...She seems right up your alley but if she isn't, its OK!. Go to the next one....that is one of the major things you have to learn about iDating, not to mention dating/picking up girls in general...get rejected, go to the next one

yeah, I know...I'm hoping I can take it... the only time I've ever really broken up with anyone it took forever to get over (of course I was engaged to her, so, I'm sure that makes it different)...I'm prepared for her not to be, but right now I'm hoping she is really on there and gonna message me...

HTF do you come up with witty stuff to say to a girl?? lol

I suck at this...

:gonna contact a couple peeps on plentyoffish when I figure out something to say:

Woz?? Just kidding...We've all been burned. Some worse than others. What makes us who we are is how we come back from those burnsDont put your eggs in one basket. See what she has to offer and then go from there.

they weren't kidding about the 5-7 matches a day on e-harmony...are girls getting that many each morning too???plus, I'd say all but maybe 3-5 of the 24 or so matches I've gotten so far have been withing a 1.5 hour drive (say Chicago/Madison/Fon Du Lac border (and Lake Michigan of course lol)... :excited: :help:
how is the quality though? How old are you? Im 25 in the chicago area and debating if it is worth signing up
Have you tried plentyoffish yet? It's free and is living up to its name. Big fan so far.
I looked, it was ok...honestly, though, I'd rather give eharmony the shot first, the money isn't a huge deal ($120 to find someone is cheap, honestly)... and looking at plentyoffish, there weren't a ton of girls on there who were what I was looking for. Sure, there were a few that seemed interesting, but after 4 days on e-harmony, I've seen more girls who fit what I want there than on plentyoffish...(of course I'm not looking to pick anyone up or just date a bunch of people or even to get laid... I want a real relationship and to find someone long-term...)
Yeah, eharmony is probably the best fit for you and what you're looking for. I was actually talking to ditka. I think he'd do well at POF.
i have signed up and tried plentyoffish..definitely looks like there are some good prospects! thanks stu..

i have a question for the masses (but will probably only listen to what krista says...haha). Twice in the past two weeks or so I have taken a train that is like 20 min after the one I usually take and Ive seen this girl that Ive wanted to approach both times, but I've never done somthing like that on the train. She seems about my age or a little younger (25), and has no engagment ring or anything. Whats the play here? Before we get on the train? during the ride? As we get off to walk to work? How do you even start a convo at the train station? help me out!

I think the best bet is waiting for the train - is it an outdoor stop or indoor terminal? For some reason I always find it easier outside to approach someone - you can always make a comment about the weather or how this would be a nice day to go sailing rather then waiting for a train to go to work. When you leave the train I would say that is the worst opportunity, she has one thing on her mind and that is getting to work, you will have a hard time sidetracking her. Approaching her on the train is dicey too, if you are sitting near her and hit her up and it does not go well you are stuck there for the duration of the train ride.

One approach you could use is just smile and say hi the next time you see her and leave it at that, build up the rapport the more often you see her so there is not a lot of pressure all upfront.

 A few "Hey howyadoin's" can go a long way.

I like the "hi" a few times to build a rapport, only problem is that I very rarely ride that train. it gets me to work about a half hour later than I should be getting there! And yes, it is an outside terminal in a suburb about 45 min outside of chicago

 First paragraph is spot on. I don't think you need to go through the "series of hi's/build rapport" approach, though. If she's interested in you, she's going to be happier for you to strike up a conversation, not leave it with just a "hi"--you do that and she'll be left wondering (and possibly frustrated you didn't do more). I like the "weather" approach if you use it in a more creative way as alias has suggested, or ANYTHING. Really, as long as you don't do/say something cheesy, you're OK and it will flow naturally from there. Good luck!

Exactly...she's typing #### and I'm kinda gettin turned on but I'm laughing....why not just "do" what you just said??
Women are stimulated easier mentally than physically. Those little whispers in her ear (or IMs as it may be) are far more important than any of you realize. ;)

I'd suggest watching for an opening to help her. If shes carrying a couple of things, over offer to help her with them to her seat. Share your umbrella on a rainy day? Hold the door, whatever little thing that will open the door for her to say thank you and you to start up a conversation. I'd imagine most people on the train are out for themselves and offering assistance isn't too common, correct? Surprise, impress and meet her with the one gesture.

Larry, you can't hide who you are. If its important to you, no sense denying it. I wouldn't cloud your entire profile with God this and God that but you should include that spirituality is an important part of your life.

Not much to update on lately, going pretty slow (by design), but going to start up on POF pretty soon, given the rave reviews around here.

Right now, I'm about to go strike out with a B&M chick at this coffee shop. Wish me luck. :goodposting:

:bag: This needs to be quoted for posterity. In the end, for all you reject, for all the times they reject you, it only takes a few to really get going. The three of us that have been the most successful in here still get "rejected" about 97-98% of the time with iDating. It happens.

I have profiles up on Lavalife and Plentyoffish. I've met a few people from those sites. Most have been cool, although there have been a couple crazies. (I have not met the crazies in person, thank you!) I love the Plentyoffish forums, too!I have a profile on eHarmony too, just because I filled out the profile to see if I was unmatchable. (I'd heard rumors that my political views and religion are, shall we say, unacceptable on that site!) I did get a few matches but I do not want to pay an arm and a leg for them - and most of them were way across the country. I currently have matches turned off. Maybe if I was seriously husband-hunting I'd shell out, but for what I want to do (meet local people to hang with), it's not worth it. And their commercials bug me.
Yo, SH, wanna hook up?I'll overlook your post-Knight IU leanings.
You in the area? Link me to your profile - either PM me here or on POF. :lmao: As for matches on eharmony being active - you can get matches if you fill out the personality profile. You can only initiate contact or respond to matches if you are a paid member (or if it's a Free Communication Weekend) There's no way to know if someone is a paid member or not before you try to initiate contact, I don't think. (You can't look at pictures if you aren't a paid member either) On Lavalife you have to pay to send instant messages or initial mail (although instead of a monthly membership, you buy credits which you use to buy those things.) to members. However, you can respond to IMs or mail for free, and once you've sent one mail message to a member (or responded), all subsequent messages to that member are free.

I have way more misses than hits.

I broke the 100 email barrier at POF - I still have 95 emails in my sent box (I delete any that are Read Deleted - sort of like taking them off of my prospect list). Not all of those are individuals, some are convo's. 17 emails in my inbox (again not all individuals). Seems to have been slowing down for me. 1 thing I learned is not to email people that have not been active in the last 30 days, starting to focus on people that have only been active within the last week. Going to give my prospects a few days before I follow up with them to pursue further.

This is life, too. What would be the fun if you succeeded every time, anyway?

a story of craziness and Larry breaking the first rule of idating:

dont' talk to chicks without pics...

lol

When you do a search it is under their picture - it took me a while to figure it out too. Fortunately they sort the results by most recently active. If it does not say anything under their photo then do not contact, it usually means they have not logged in for the past 3 months or so.

nice ot know...unfortunately the girl I spent like 2 hours coming up with a good e-mail to last night was 2 pages into the list I got from a search... so I have a feeling its been a while since she logged on... lolthat sucks...

so... had my first (well, third including the two girls I've actually been with) crazy today lol She e-mailed me on POF... and I looked at her profile and then she IMed me while I was looking at it on POF... so we chatted for a while, and she asked for my phone #... I gave it to her (stupid me lol) she called me (hid the phone #, too) and we were chatting, it was going ok, and all of a sudden she just hangs up on me... I think my phone lost signal (cell phone, I looked and it had no signal after she hung up) and apologize to her through AIM when I get back to work (she called me on her lunch break) and she is like "I want someone who is only mine and you said that you were interested in lots of girls" (she didn't have a pic (I know, bad idea to talk to her) and she asked me what kind of gilrs I like, big ones or little ones and I said that it didn't really matter, there are other more important things than if a girl is a bigger girl or a really little girl)... she then stops talking to me 10 minutes later so... whatever lol but... seriously... she was crazy... lol
and I know there is nothing unfit for public consumption... I just... like having a secret sideboard most people can't get to that I can taunt them with... :lmao: lol (honestly, I just started typing it there and then kept it there for no particular reason)

AWESOME :lmao:
:finger:
:lmao: I was laughing more at her comments, than you.
oh... ok... I'm just.. so used...ok, i'm sorry then... you didn't deserve the :finger:... my bad...
Meh, we're all GBs in here, LB. Like I said on the underground, we've all done worse. I promise. The stories are what make this so fun.

they weren't kidding about the 5-7 matches a day on e-harmony...are girls getting that many each morning too???plus, I'd say all but maybe 3-5 of the 24 or so matches I've gotten so far have been withing a 1.5 hour drive (say Chicago/Madison/Fon Du Lac border (and Lake Michigan of course lol)... :lmao: :lmao:
how is the quality though? How old are you? Im 25 in the chicago area and debating if it is worth signing up
I'm 23...the quality is pretty good... and its very pointed...like my religion is very important to me, so not only did I specify I want someone who is religious I specified that htey must be Chrisitans and even that they must fall in certain denominations...I specified they must at least be willing to consider kids (I think i've gotten 2 "maybes" the rest were yes)...They also must not smoke and only occasionally drink (I think i said once a week tops)...so, I'd say that its worth checking out...HOWEVER, keep in mind that I'm looking for people who would generally be looking at marrying and being in a serious relationship, and most of my answers are aimed at getting pretty serious Christian girls (which is, by and large, eharmony's target audience (just flip to your local Chrisitan radio Station, the one around here had an eharmony commercial every commercial break whenever I listened to it)...so :lmao: I think it might depend on what you are looking for... HOWEVER, you can do your profile thing and get some matched (no pics) without paying, so its worth seeing how many matches you get, although you can't 100% gauge quality until after you pay them... (its $60 for one month, $35/month if you go 3 months, $28/month if you go 6 and $20/month if you go 12... HOWEVER 2 days after signing up I got an e-mail for $22/month for 6 months, so I did that)
Larry's target girl at 23 is just about the exact opposite of what mine was.
