yeah, I find dating is for geeks and pedophiles. I prefer to meet girls out (primarily mutual friends of some sort) and bang them without all the dinner/movie bs.

I can't remember I took a girl to a proper dinner date. Prob my last serious g/f. I take them for late night food but that's about it.
I've been chatting with this girl the last two weeks on OKC. Good conversation, but at one point she said that she is only 23, not looking for anything serious, only looking for friendships, and wanted to make sure I was good with that. I told her that was fine with me as long as everything was up front from the start. I asked her to clarify what she meant by "friendships" and she said she just meant platonic friends.
Tried a couple of times to take it to text, which finally happened yesterday. We texted during the day and I asked her to meet up for some beers after work. We got together about 6:45 and hung out at the bar until around 11:30. Cute and very slim. Had a great time talking, walked out to the car and hugged goodbye. She turned her head waaaay off to the side, but I wasn't going to attempt anything anyway.
So I'm just wondering if there's any chance at all she's slow playing with the "just friends" line, or am I stuck?

This thread is fascinating to me.....thanks for starting it.....I have only gotten through part of it, but it's interesting to see a guy's perspective on it. I will be re-joining the scary world of dating again after I finish my nightmare-worthy divorce (two years and counting) - kind of makes one take pause before any more attempts at love....haha
But, I have been told that Match.com wouldn't work for me anyway, because I am 42, and despite not looking or acting my age, most guys put the limit at 40.....so, since I'm not big on the bar scene, I guess I will stick with hanging out with my friends and stressing over my fantasy football team and reading the play-by-play of this thread for entertainment.

My 2 cents....I think it is better to do something more relaxed at first - good way to see if you are compatible and avoids struggling to make a conversation over dinner right away.....I would much rather go to a sporting event or shoot pool/have drinks to see what someone is like......
I met someone special through OKC. Been going out for 11 weeks now. She was only the sixth woman I went out with in nearly four months doing online dating, as I had limiting search criteria of not wanting kids and not being religious. We hit it off from our first date. Immediately knew this one felt right and different from the rest. I'm 35 and she's turning 26 next month. This was my first venture into online dating and I'm very pleased with the results. We both deleted our OKC accounts a couple weeks ago.

Congratulations on the new relationship... one big question though... She's 26 years old now - how sure are you that she will not want kids in the next 10-15 years? And is there a reason why she doesn't want any kids (i.e., any childhood baggage there?).
That's certainly a concern, that she's too young to say she doesn't want kids for good rather than just for right now. Her profile said she had no pets, which I liked, then it turns out a month later her landlord lets her take in the cat her mother had been watching since she moved out on her own. The thing meows its head off at night and makes staying over at her place unbearable (she mostly stays at mine). So things change and you have to decide whether or not its a deal breaker. What can you do other than wait and see? She certainly knows where I stand. If she decides she wants kids in the future, hopefully it's when I still have hair left to get back out there. She basically says she wants to focus on herself and her career, kind of like what I say. If everyone who doesn't want kids is screwed up then I can't really hold that against them, since I am among them.

My wife's close friend is a train wreck. She was married with two adopted kids but decided it was a good idea to whore herself out to everyone she could find while her husband was at work. Husband is a really great dude.
Anyway, she got pregnant by a fling and initiated divorce, had the kid and is struggling to live with the baby daddy.
Her soon to be ex husband has been dating. Good for him.
She came over the other night and told my wife that Eric (ex husband) has been out "a few times" with girls he met on a "Christian dating site"...eharmony. I laughed out loud - Eric is finally getting laid. good for him.

so i ended things in august with a woman i met last fall on OKC. she was nice, fun and all but things weren't working out. i took a little break and re-launched the idating profile on Match about two weeks ago. at first, things were very quiet but i've been on a roll the last week or two. dates with three different women over the past week. i like two of them a lot but i'm trying to keep things open here for a bit. the trick is trying to find a balance between these two and still explore what's out there.

I just let my eH subscription lapse. I'm burned out on the grind of it and I wasn't meeting the types of women that I really wanted to meet. I'll probably take a few months off to recharge my batteries and go back to it repeating the cycle all over again.

I've found a possible keeper....at least one that I'm not just trying to bang and move on. Progress!
Been on 3 dates and still haven't found a major annoyance or red flag. There has been a phenomenon happening each time we have been out together...some random person out of nowhere will comment "are you two a couple? You look so good together!" Chemistry between us is through the roof.
Some highlights...
- 30 yrs old (I'm 37)
- Gorgeous (solid o-8...could easily be scratching 8.5 territory: 5'3", great body, italian, brunette, brown eyes, olive skin)
- Smart (has her Masters in Finance)
- Great :style: (I have a slight fetish with high heels and she is more comfortable in heels than in tennis shoes....even when all she is wearing is the heels, and only the heels)
- Past gymnast, present part-time ballet dancer, has had some past schooling in massage therapy (is there a better combination than that?)
- No Kids (at my age and when dating 30+'s it's a rarity)
Part of me isn't so sure about this as don't know if I even want to be in a serious committed relationship right now, but this one has me rethinking it at the moment.

And I'm kinda weirded out by it. There's definitely still time for the crazy to come out, but I feel like I get a decent read on girls pretty quickly and so far nothing big. The biggest flaw I've found so far has to do with her driving...guess she's had a bunch of speeding tickets and I've witnessed some absolutely terrible parking when I walked to her car. Yes, that's the kind of stuff I'm grasping for here fellas. Part of me likes dating the flawed hot girls that I know absolutely have no long term future.

Yeah, I cut her loose not long after that. After dating her for 8-9 months, I learned that it wasn't going to get any better with her. She was a lot of *fun* in the sack but the rest was not so much fun.
I took a break of a month or so. For the past 2-3 weeks I have been seeing two women and with a sprinkling of dates - mainly lunch dates when I am on the fence - here and there. I'm going to have to pull the trigger pretty soon on one of these women though. It's just tricky.

i haven't but might have been tempted. They aren't expensive and, at least here in chicago, there are some decent venues. I think of them as akin to the Linkedin kind of networking shindigs.

I went to one last month... it was a basic happy hour at a trendy local bar. I quickly realized that this format wasn't for me as I don't do well approaching chicks by myself at bars - particularly when it's such an obvious/forced environment. It may have been more fun if I had a buddy as a wingman, but I'm the only single guy I know right now (I'm 37).
The quality of chicks at the event was pretty mediocre too. Out of the 30 women, I'd say maybe 3 were legitimately attractive and another 3 that would qualify as cute.

Yes, this one was only a $5 registration. I've seen other Stir events offered that were as much as $30 (but they were more involved activities).

nothing really cool here. i predicted doom, but they are apparently pretty popular. i don't think they have broken even on them, but at this point it's about crushing what little competition remains out there.

just an aside, i took almost a year off from online dating before giving it a go recently. i forgot the rules about physical descriptions and photos. so last year i might have put a short range of preferred physical types and been on dates that ran the gamut. this time around, i have been much more judicious and only interested in one type. the results have been *much* better this time around.

Not iDating related, but was out with a buddy Saturday night watching the Clemson v FSU game at a bar down the street. Our waitress was this cute little thing with tattoos, small ear guages, etc.....not normally my thing at all, but it's always been a bucket list type item of mine to experience one of these types of chicks. Her shift ended around 8pm and she conveniently stayed to have some drinks at the bar. Found out she's 23...as in born in 1990! I even unveiled my true age of 37 when she asked and she didn't care in the least. Long story, short I can cross that one off my list. And she was a fun one....talking pron star type skills. God bless the youth.
