Well, that was convenient - nice summary right when I check status. . Some interesting picks at first glance. Hmmmm.

Ok, now I have read the list more. I really like the Keeler pick - he was on my list as well . We 5'4 Willie.. choppin bunts for base hits.Now... Sutton is in the Hall. I have always thought he was the very best at being pretty good. Not a fan, really. Dictionary definition of compiler imo.

K. Brown - how many really great years did he have? Too early.

R. Fingers - Strategy choice. I like the pick, but am not sure there were not other options there. However, if you wanted the relief, then he was a good choice.

Chipper - there are other active players that should not go yet, who I think are better. Is he being played at 3B I assume? If so, then I think we have to look past modern bias and look at him objectively. Offhand too early.. upon further examinatino, might still be too early, but he may also be underated.

Bunning - wasa short period at his best, correct? I did not think he would go this soon, but I dont really know what pitching is out there now.

It looks like Nipsey has just shortened his games to seven innings.
Believe it!
I am not sure they are going to be so much "harder" to hit than the great starting pitchers being drafted - please take out Cy Young, Ill take my chances with anyone else, for example. I suppose as pitching talent drops off, it may give Nips a good advantage in certain matchups.

I agree that the Sutton pick is less than stunning, but he is a 300 game winner who struck out more than 3300. Granted it took him 22 years, but it's what I'm left with.

This is exactly what led me to Brown.

so are you going to pinch-hit for Ozzie in the third-inning or the fifth?
Why would you ever need to pinch hit for anyone when you're up by two runs and have Eck warming in the bullpen? :own3d:
how are you going to score two runs with THAT lineup? :own3d:
Shouldn't be a problem when facing Bert Blyleven. :own3d:
You think Cy pitching on half-day rest is going to sneak an eephus pitch past Willie, Willie and Willie, P.A.? :own3d:
I used to have a mean eephus pitch.

All shtick aside ( :own3d: ), there is a nice blurb in James' book about Rollie Fingers. I won't quote it here, but it mirrors exactly how I feel about him. Rollie was innovative at a new pitching role, but his numbers don't really measure up well with his contemporaries. You're buying the name, and that's about it.

Spock continues to put his middle finger up to the FFA and selects:

Joe Kelley - OF
Who?
exactlydoesn't he have like 17 outfielders from 1890 now?
he's going for 100% small ball, and frankly, I love it. can't wait to see how he does with it.
yeah I think it's pretty cool myself..interested to see how it works.plus, he may be the first ever answer in a poll here to get 0 votes.
I came pretty damn close in nba

If we were smart at the beginning, we should have made every team sponsor one player over there...provided he was on your team.

I would sponsor someone, how much is it? (let me rephrase that.. how much is it, and then maybe ill sponsor)

anywhere from 2 bucks to upwards of 150 for the big name guys, but I think it loses some of the luster if he's not on your team.

Basically the better known they are, the more they cost, but some of the HOFs are inexpensive

Really? Not even in '81? I'll disagree w/ you on this. His salary numbers in the sim are up top for relievers and he will garner votes for the other part of it. I'm fairly confident I'll have the best set-up man and closer in this thing. He was one of eight guys I debated. Every other guy I felt I could get someone comprable much later. didn't feel that way about Fingers. You took Kevin Brown. I think I can get a guy just as good if not better five rounds from now. Believe that.

The lesser players are dirt cheap. I'm thinking of sponsoring at least one guy on my squad. Not sure who yet. They also have to be available for purchase at the time.

in my opinion, the BBWAA did something dumb when they gave Fingers an MVP award, and compounded the dumbitude by using that as a reason to put him in the HOF............ (talks a lot about numbers and stats of undrafted players that are similar that I'll get 3-5 rounds from now)What lifted Fingers out of that class, I believe, was simply that he had exceptionally good taste in teammates.

Geez, I go away for a few hours and I come back to what appears to be a few mental meltdowns. No way Kevin Brown should have been picked yet. Chipper, Sutton, and Fingers were also a little early. Then again, I'm the moron here who decided to draft McGwire and pair him with Ruth to have the best 3-4 part of the lineup in the history of baseball.

Picked him mainly because he's most well known for finishing with 19 wins.
who can argue with logic like that.
