:rotflmao: yeah, bang up job. I'm terrified of an all-time team featuring Mike Piazza and Larry Jones in the first 7 selections. :rotflmao:

No kidding. I'm not sure I'd talk trash to a guy with Mays, Clemente, Bench, the Unit, Rose, etc...Very solid team both offensively and defensively.

From a guy who has been drafting media big names instead of good players, I'd say that's a compliment. I'm sure you'll do really well in the FFA vote, though.

I read he got all of his hits with a 9 iron. Didn't pitchers roll the ball to the plate back then?

I said Media Big Names, not actives. Pete Rose, Clemente... both went early because they are Big Legendary Names. But their stats simply don't match up. Like I said though, I am sure you'll do really well in the FFA vote.

I'd be scared of a hitter that kicked ### in the dead ball era too--imagine what he'll do to your pitchers.

probably intentionally walk him to get to Larry Jones. But who knows.

Speaking of: Danny Glover and Joe Pesci were funny in that movie.

riiight..Pete Rose at the tail end of round two (where lastresort said he would have taken him if I didn't) and Clemente, maybe the best defensive outfielder of all-time, in the FOURTH round were both horribly out-of-place selections, taken only for their names.Rose is a top-30 player all-time (if not higher) by just about every single account. And if you're willing to dispute the greatness of Roberto Clemente, both offensively and defensively, do it with somebody else more on your level of baseball knowledge then. I hear one of the females here may be available to chat.

I was hesitant to bring up Rose because I'm not a huge fan of his game but there's nothing overrated about Clemente. You do realize that your team will be affected by your player's defensive abilities, correct? Larry and Mike aren't exactly defensive stalwarts.

Out of curiosity what is Pete's 3rd best year. I know he had the stellar career, but he didn't have too many monster seasons statistically did he?Just wondering... :hophead:

personally, I loved his style of play, and he put up some pretty outstanding seasons.if anybody paid attention to the NBA draft, they'd know how stupid it is to say I care about the FFA vote. My draft in that league was filled with players from the 50s (and we could draft anybody).

I would say 1970 or 1973...... the guy was just consistant forever.

Nothing wrong with the pick. I just don't like the guy.
oh.I do think he's scum.Shame too, when I growing up, Gary Carter was my favorite player, but I probably read more on Rose than anybody else. Always was interested in the guy.Shame he was a moron.

Why Gary Carter? Just curious. Mine was Reggie Jackson. Don't remember why....probably from seeing him on TV but for a Mpls kid to like Reggie more than Rod Carew was strange around here.

My favorite was Dwight Gooden. Followed closely by Darryl Strawberry. My disappointment in life was learned at an early age.

I wish I had a hero like Carter or Jackson. My favorite players growing up were Scott Fletcher and Charlie Hough.Man the Rangers sucked in the late 80's.

My favorite player growing up was Todd Zeile of all people. Why?In 1991, I went to a Cards game with my dad. I forget who we were playing, but I remember it was a very low scoring game. The game went into extras and Zeile came to bat. At that point, I guranteed my dad that he would hit a home run this at bat. Because it was a low-scoring game and Zeile had done next to nothing at the plate, he looked at me like I was crazy. What happened? Zeile slammed one into the left-field seats. He was my hero ever since.GB Todd Zeile.

:own3d:
Too bad Fisk bats .238 in the sim. :own3d:
It's true. How the hell is his 3rd best season one in which he hits .238??!?!?!? Still hit 37 homeruns but ouch.
I really don't know how they figure out the salaries. I have some guys that seem to have much better season than their third highest salary season...it's strange. I know for pitchers, they really like guys who pitch a ton of innings. I'm not sure how they come up with hitting stats...AB's seem to help a bit. Maybe guys get rested a lot on this thing or they get injured. Either way, the more I've seen of that site, the more I'm looking forward to the sim. It's seems really cool. Getting 3 boxscores a day, tweaking your line-up/pitching staff. The beauty of the sim is this draft is really entering the critical stage as teams w/ depth are going to be rewarded, especially w/ us not using a DH. Also, I know if you put a starter in a reliever role, the guy's going to suck, so UCONN is right about the finding good relievers....not easy, hence the Fingers pick.

Could end up being brilliant to take two relievers. OB seems to be a big factor in determining salary of season for hitters. Fisk was too good to pass on again but the BA for the sim is a drag. I'm looking forward to the sim too. I've probably looked up every player taken so far. Fun site to play around with.

depending on how his sim takes these numbers into account, he could kick the crap out of some of our teams using modern hitters.
After playing around with Whatif's sim matchup, I'm pretty sure they don't adjust numbers for eras even the slightest bit.Which is why I stopped caring about the sim awhile ago.
