***OFFICIAL*** FFA MLB Draft (3 Viewers)

OK, I need a lefty in my rotation and the pickins are pretty slim. I found a guys I like and was going to wait to take him but waiting hasn't worked for me on pitchers in past rounds so I'll go ahead and take him.

With Pick #13 in round Nine the Curse Reversing Idiots Select:

Vida Blue

Won both the MVP and Cy young in 1971

Six time All Star

Five times in top 10 Cy Young award

37 career shutouts

2100+ K's

200+ wins

Threw no hitter 1970

Promising career sidtracked by drug issues but he had some great years. Good control pitcher with a live fastball.

Crap!! Nice pick. So much for getting him later.

Baseball presents from Dad are as follows...Franklin glove.Rawlings t-ball batFranklin t-ball set complete with adjustable t.One dozen t-ball soft baseballs. Note to LB. Little Funk not eligible for this draft.

That's a good two week supply.
Cuz he'll lose them over the fence? Didn't think of that.....good point.

Congrats Funk!! I am just waiting for the day I can do the same. Almost bought a glove last week, but seeing as my boy is only 6 months old, its a little premature.

This is actually his 3rd glove. He keeps outgrowing them. His hands are almost as big as Mrs Funk's. Big kid. Power hitter, similar to Foxx I'm thinking.

Not necessary, we were all winners in that draft(larry included  ) had a good time with it. Leave Sigs as is as far as I'm concerned.

Cool. I'm proboably gonna put something in mine. "IWKS=FFA Basketball Champ" or something atleast. Not to hijack too much but liked the team a lot. Once you got Pippen I thought you'd be a team that'd be tought to beat.

I think I'm going to start putting together my active player team for my OOTP simulation. What is the ruling on current players? Something about 1994? Don't want to have to read through the whole thread.I'll just use players that aren't eligible for this draft.

"No player may be selected who was not on an active MLB roster in 1994 or before. So anybody who's first day on an MLB roster came in 1995 or after is ineligible to be drafted."From Cappy's rules.

Gotta have played for five years. I think it's 1876 to present but not sure on the exact start. Must have been active before '94. Chipper played something like 8 games in '93, none in '94, and then played in '95 and was picked so I'm assuming it just means one game in the '94 season or before. Anybody that played their first MLB game in '95 or after '95 is ineligible.

Has anyone thought about what the all post 1994 team would be? I'm interested to see who heads up that list....
so players who didn't play at all in 1993?I would assume that Albert P and Todd Helton would be right at the top.

It'd be players who played their first game in '95 or after if it was the "all ineligible team".edited to add there are also some Negro League players that would be drafted for sure if not for the MLB requirement.

I may put together a Negro League team as well and see how it does in the OOTP sim against my current MLB team and your all-time teams.

C - Gibson1B - Buck Leonard2B - ?3B - ?SS - Pop LloydOF - Oscar CharlestonOF - Turkey StearnsOF - ?SP - PaigeOnce the blanks are filled in this team would rock.

This probably belongs in a separate thread, but i thought it would be interesting to compare a team of Negro League all-timers. None of these guys is eligible for the ongoing MLB draft. All quotes are taken from the Bill James Historical Abstract.

1. Josh Gibson, Catcher.

Probably the greatest catcher in baseball history, and the greatest RH power hitter of any position. James ranks him at the 9th best player of all-time.

2. Oscar Charleston, Centerfield.

Buck O'Neil: he was like Ty Cobb, Babe Ruth and Tris Speaker rolled into one.

KC sportswriter: was so fast he makes Cobb look like a runner with a handicap.

James: regarded by many knowledgeable people as the greatest baseball player who ever lived. James ranks him 4th all-time, behind Ruth, Wagner, and Mays.

3. Turkey Stearnes, Left Field.

Comparable to Ted Williams or Mel Ott. #25 all-time, between Frank Robinson & Rickey Henderson.

4. Pop Lloyd, Shortstop.

Connie Mack said that you could put Honus Wagner and Pop Lloyd in a bag, pull out whichever one and not go wrong either way. #27 all-time

5. Mule Suttles, LF/1B.

#43 all-time.

6. Smokey Joe Williams, Pitcher.

#52 all-time, between Koufax & Feller.

that's enough for now.
here you go, GWB. by the way, i read all your posts now in Hurley's voice. :D

the last handful of picks (how's that for vague?) have been excellent.i think James is wrong about Pie Traynor, ranking him at #15 for 3B.
wrong which way? too high or too low?
James ranks Traynor too low; he's better than #15. Hence, a good pick here.
Thanks. I liked the pick. Went well with the rest of my lineup.
He would have worked well in my lineup too, but like Nipsey I felt there were just too many still on the board and I'm pretty sure I'll still get a good third baseman.

Gotta have Cool Papa Bell in there. Dude could flip the light switch and be in bed and under the covers before the room got dark  And that would be Hugo Reyes to you. Hurley isn't my real name you know.
