***Rules***Players must have 5 years of MLB service to be drafted.

No player may be selected who was not on an active MLB roster in 1994 or before. So anybody who's first day on an MLB roster came in 1995 or after is ineligible to be drafted.

25-man rosters, you will be required to set your rotation and lineups.

Results will be decided by FFA draft in a 7-game series. Seedings, etc will be worked out by some committee.

All participants are asked to take place in a whatifsports.com simulation after the draft and FFA results are held. Cost is $10, and we will use a player's third-best season (determined by WIS.com's "salary system") to formulate the rosters.

THAT SAID, players are to be drafted based on their complete careers, not on just one good season. The WIS.com sim is just an afterthought or a second facet to the whole draft.

Draft will start with a 'stadium selection' in reverse order. So Larryboy has the first selection of his stadium.

I select Milwaukee County Stadium...quite frankly, the stadium doesn't matter all that much, I have a good pitcher's park... great... }=O) I'll get some pitching then...BUT I decided that, as far as parks go, I am going to get the only ballpark I've ever been to and the ballpark that only team I've ever realy cared about played in, so I picked County Stadium since I have Miller Park more than anything else in the whole world (evne though it is kinda pretty)...So, Larry_Boy_44's Team will be playing in Milwaukee County Stadium

Ebbets, Polo, Yankee Stadium, Fenway, Wrigley all on the board, and you take a Triple-A field!?!?!?!!!

Does Spartans know he's up?
I shot him a pm. BTW I'll bet Larry does pretty well this draft. Also no shame in taking the home park. I'm thinking about doing the same (though my home park has a little more name recognition).

yes... did you read what I said about it being my home ballpark? I don't care about stadium...

well, larry surprises absolutely nobody and selects the one park nobody else would have considered.:stillers:

do you really think stadiums matter that much?
not really, just thought it was funny you took that one.maybe I'll select Tropicana Field.

Picking at the bottom I think building for pitching is definitely the way to go, so I'll get one of those crazy enormous old ballparks...

Palace of the Fans

450 feet down the lines. Gonna be fun to watch Ruth, Aaron, Mays, etc. fly out all day here. Plus the name is cool.

Sure they do. You could select a stadium and then draft a team that would be tailored to said stadium. Fenway + righties, for example.:backseatdriver:

this is true, but sadly, nobody who does the voting in the FFA will pay attention to it.

That's why the whatif part was a great idea. I also highly doubt the FFA will pay attention to defense or having a quality bench, but the sim sure will.

Cappy are you going to be updateing picks/teams in the first post? Just wondering, I'll keep closer track if you're not.

This may be a stupid idea, but I thought of it as I logged all those basketball picks (and this draft is over 3 times as big)....how bout setting up a separate "rosters" thread where each owner makes a post and edits in their roster as we pick? Too much?

we can do that.

Cap - I think that Funkley picks stadium, then me... want me to PM you both my options so I dont hold things up?

well this was fun guys, let's do it again next year!
do we have a time limit? For baseball I'm sure we could get some 3rd parties to make skipped picks or take over skipped teams. Seemed like there was still some interest. Plus w/ ballpark...I mean if you pass your 12 hrs. or whatever, what's the big deal. We could just skip and come back.

Cap, I do hope this was dissapointment that Ebbetts is gone, and not disappointment with the pick! If I hear ebbetts ruined anythingggggggggggggggggggggggggggggg!!!!! :D My other pick, while sentimental for me, was far more boring. A trade can be worked out. :P Ebbetts: Not as crazy a park as you might think, there is a little advantage to right as the line is only 298 (with a 20 foot fence maybe, if I remember) - although batters will have trouble hitting homers down the 350+ left field line. A difficult but not especially deep center provides a nice left field power alley before hitting that 350 down the line.A little bit of a batter's park, but not extreme at all. Speed guys should benefit be hitting down the left field line, and there will be slightly above average power numbers but nothing to throw off stats considerably. Go Bums!

Griffith you mean?I will admit, Ebbets was almost "too easy" a pick - but being a NY'er and a Mets fan (I mean really.. Shea???) being the Bums was too hard to pass up.

(Griffith Stadium) plays out as a good park for lefties according to Whatif.
Here's a diagram of Griffith Stadium's fences as they were between 1911-1920. WIS.com uses the 1930 version of this park in their simulation -- the fences were moved in about 8-10 feet all around, making the right field wall especially tempting.I like the architectural interest of an uneven outfield wall, which actually bends to accomodate a row of private residences behind the stadium. I also like the cavernous left field (which does increase extra-base hits struck to left field, but mitigates LF homers) and the ample foul territory.Griffith Stadium is a bit quirky -- it helps some pitchers, but not others; and it helps some batter, but not others.

Good stuff Doug.It would be cool if people could post a link to their stadium, especially any old pics. I dig that stuff. There's a few cool 'stadium' books on the market, that have a bunch of old pictures and facts. Every birthday or Christmas, my mom buys me another coffee-table baseball book, so I have lots of that stuff. If interested in any of that, some of you should check it out. And yes Koya, I wanted Ebbets  Have another in mind, that I likely won't get.
