Serious question...Over at whatif for the sample team they make you take 3 RPs.  They don't appear to let you put in a starting pitcher into these slots.

My question.  Is it possible that we can use SP in these slots?
When I set up my freebie team over there, it looked to me that they allowed exactly that. UCONN, do you concur?
That's what it looked like to me...it does let you take 7 starters and use some of them for relief if you want, but I think you have to use 3 "true" relievers. Seems fair to me.
Well that brings up the whole thing of there are really only 30 years of relievers. I think it kind of defeats the purpose of this whole thing if I have to bring in a true RP, but whatever
I dunno...just going by what it looks like to me. I get your point.

I can't wait for about round 18  larry is just going to be flipping through an old Brewers media guide looking for somebody to pick.

If other people agree, Capella can you e-mail them and see if there's a way around the need for true relievers?

:yes:/  Some good picks this round. My short list is getting torn apart.

bump to the current page. Bogart, Koya, then Funkley

With The Ballpark at Arlington, I need two things: an offense that can score some runs and a top-notch centerfielder. This guys helps me with both:

3.10 - Sliding Billy Hamilton - OF

First defense, I have read that he could get to any ball hit and whatifsports agrees with an A+ fielding range.

Now offense, the guy averaged 172 Runs, 75 RBI, 93 SBs, with a BA of 0.344 and an OBP of 0.455. The guy basically got on base half the times he came up. Finding a third best season for this guy is going to be fun.

Career stats are nice as well as he is in the top 10 all time in, Batting Average (8th), On-base percetage (4th) and Stolen Bases (3rd).

With Henderson and Hamilton anchoring the OF and the top of the order, this team is going to be fun, fun, fun to watch.

I'm going out for lunch soon so if someone has Koya's pick please speak up.
otherwise... SEND A LIST TO SOMEONE!! :rotflmao: :wall: :wall:
this would really be a plus...you (and KOYA!) make 2 picks long before Cappy gets to make his next one....not much chance of him stealing your guy. I sent him a list for rd. 2 and it worked out fine.

as long as you can check in semi-regularly...like me, I'm gonna be at home (or I should be), so I'm not gonna send a pick in (I go home from work at 12 Central, in 35 minutes, but I'm going home, so it doesn't matter)...so... yeah... lolI'll be around all day

I like the idea of getting speed in your outfield w/ some of the huge parks we'll be playing in.
Thanks, that was part of my thinking as well. I know someone mentioned building a team like the 85 Cardinals. I have another team in mind, and so far I building very much like them.

I'm up hmmm there are two guys I'm torn between here, considering who is up before my next pick might be a run on pitchers so I'll go in that direction.

Whith pick #13 in round Three the Curse Reversing Idiots select:

Bob Gibson

Write-up coming just wanted to get the name out ther to keep the pace.

I had Henderson plugged in as a guy I was praying would slip as well. You can argue him as a top 10 player ever imo. Completely changes a game.

Jackie Robinson 2b/IF/OF....he'll play 2nd for me, but could move around in a pinch.
I'm thinking that is a little bit of a reach, he was a great man who did something that deserves a lot of respect...BUT, I am not sure he is one of the top 50 PLAYERS ever... he is probably one of the top 10 MEN who played, did one of the top few things anyone who ever played did...but... unfortunately, breaking the color-barrier doesn't help you win this...

Larry....you are a dumb ###.career .311 hitter who could field and fly on the bases....oh, yeah...missed some of his prime yrs. playing in the Negro league plus put up those numbers w/ more pressure than just about anybody...you think they just handed that guy an MVP, he earned everything he got and did quite a bit. Batting title, lead the league in steals twice, that MVP I was talking about....

Dominant lefty (those are getting scarce) for the Tigers in the 40s, won back-to-back MVPs in 44 and 45. Finished 2nd to Ted Williams in 46 MVP vote, so had the Cy existed in his time he probably would have won 3 in a row.

Now I gotta scramble to come up with my next pick. Lots of options.

Yup ... :wall: Another on that short list with Seaver and Brett.

Sing it, Freddie:

... and another one's down

and another one's down

another one bites the dust!

why? Especially if this is a career thing... he played 10 years...of course, the last 2 weren't anything to write home about...he had ONE season above 100 RBIs, never hit 20 homers, one season above .340 BA, one season AT .440 OB (none higher than that), one season above 30 stolen bases...his best year was great... 1949 30 BRO NL 156 593 122 203 38 12 16 124 37 86 27 .342 .432 .528 313 17 8 22but after that, what? 1952 33 BRO NL 149 510 104 157 17 3 19 75 24 7 106 40 .308 .440 .465 237 6 14 16that would be his second best probably... what's his third?as a major league baseball player, he was not that great of a player... He was a great man... but top 50 player ever?? I'm not sure about that....He belongs in this draft, but I am just not convinced its this high...

Jackie Robinson but... unfortunately, breaking the color-barrier doesn't help you win this...
Larry, look over Robinson's stats carefully. Consider that his longevity numbers were robbed by Robinson having to wait until age 28 to enter the major leagues.
all we can do, though, is look at what he actually did in the majors... Yes, he probably would have had 7 great years if he could have gotten in at 21 rather than 28... but he didn't, and what he did in the majors, I don't think, makes him a top 50 player...
