Well....what the heck. The guy I almost took last time I'll take now.

Almost went Rice there myself, but thought he would slide, guess I was pretty wrong huh.
yep, slide one whole slot. Both Puckett and Rice are great picks. Too bad Puckett is such an #######. I really liked him as a kid.

Yeah he always seemed like such a nice guy when he was a player to. Is "Character" weighted in the Sim? :hophead:

Puckett :own3d: this town in the 80's & 90's. Amazing how far he's fallen and how fast. Clearly was never as nice a guy as people made him seem. HOF womanizer and a complete Richard to most people he came in contact with socially.

A friend of mine managed that restaurant where Puckett alledgedly assaulted that lady. He told me she was loaded and that she's in there all the time trying to pick up ballplayers/wealthy individuals. All heresay I know, but makes me feel at least a little better about Puckett.

That being said, he still cheated on his wife with a few ladies and that ain't cool.

Hit her and threatened her repeatedly too. 1st class **** for that alone. Heard the stories about the bar skank around here but it figures Puckett would be dumb enough to fall in her trap.Certainly a shame and tarnishes slightly how awesome the two WS victories were.

Thanks. I love his company in the adjusted ERA list. Tied with Walter Johnson and Wilhelm, just ahead of Randy Johnson and Ed Walsh.

Quis never got selected in the disease draft did he?
He didn't but would have been a wasted pick IMO. Couldn't compete w/ Gehrig (Gehrig) and Christmas (Christmas/AIDS (or Navidid/SIDA en Espana). Seriously, Christmas could have gone #1 overall.

Brain tumors are pretty pedestrian when competing with that stuff.

What's work? Ok, write up on Kiki "Dont call me" Shirley Cuyler upcoming.I got worried when I saw some old names off the board that he would not make it. Along with Willie Keeler, he was my favorite "7th grade computer sim" player (not a sim, as you actually picthed, swung and fielded, but they all were according to sim'd stats) and one of the all time great names.Oh, he also was one of the stars of his time, a very good defensive player (in reality, cant talk for the sim) and a perfect top of the order batter, from the right side of the plate.

12.07 - Dan Quisenberry - RP
Looking him up at Baseball Reference, and noticed that he went to the University of La Verne. Kid you not.Figured he must be the only MLB player ever from that place, but there turns out to be about 10 players from good ol' La Verne. Who knew?

:makejokesnow:
La Verne in SoCal? we competed against them in a number of sports (however we were D3... do they have a D1 baseball program? maybe a different school)

He was on the list I sent Nipsey last night. Nice pick. Almost always used him on my team in Strat or PTP too. :nerd:

Dude can't field for squat, but I need that kind of bat available to me.

Hazen Shirtly "Kiki" Cuyler (now THATS A HoF name)

Bats Right, Throws Right, Runs like lightning

1921-1938

.321 Career Average

.386 Career OBP

.474 Slugging %

Before Paul Waner hit town, there was the mercurial Hazen Shirley "Kiki" Cuyler. The Pirates were his team, and a fearsome team it was.

Except for the home run ball, this team -- in the image of Cuyler, its biggest star -- did it all.(the Pirates were even fifth in the league in homers, with only Cuyler and shortstop Glenn Wright in double figures at 18 apiece, but homers were rare; Gabby Hartnett was second in the league with 24).

"At his best, Cuyler was a major impact player, Ichiro with twice the power. " (link below)

2nd to Hornsby in MVP once, top 10 two times

Top 50 ALL TIME batting average

4 Time Stolen Base Leader, top 2 Seven Times

Three Time Power Speed Leader!

3 Time Leader Times on Base

2 Time Runs leader, 4 Times top 5

3 Time top two in doubles (Led Once)

4 Time top four in triples (Led Once)

5 Time top ten in RBI

I need a leadoff hitter. Ideally, a righter, to go R/L with Nellie Fox, however that was not most important. What was important:

Get on base.

Hit for VERY high average

Have speed - less for stealing, although I needed someone to steal on occasion, but more to get on base and then score when Griffey, Mize, Arod etc. come up to bat.

Extra base hits - often a leadoff guy will come up to the plate, two outs, man on second (#7 or 8 hitter get on base, pitcher bunts over). To have some pop at leadoff gives you the chance to score that run.

Known for playing with reckless abandon (when motiavated) - ran into numerous outfield walls and teamates. ESPN would have loved this guy.

In 1925, Cuyler had an MVP-type season, although he (justly) finished second in the balloting to Rogers Hornsby. Cuyler just did it all: hit .357, slugged .598, a .423 OBP, 18 homers, 43 doubles, 26 triples (!!), a more-than-respectable 58 walks (remember, walks were scarce; the league leader had 86, and 66 was good for fourth place), and 41 steals in just 54 attempts (a 75.9% success rate compared to 56.5% for the league). Kiki also had 21 assists in right field. By the end of the year, Cuyler's career averages were a .352 average, .562 slugging and .410 OBP.

could there be more than one? i had never heard of it before, so i don't know where it's located.

My pick, OF Ken Williams, put together one of the best 5-year stretches in baseball history.

The left fielder in one of the greatest outfields in baseball history, double-threat Ken Williams was ahead of his time. In 1922 he became the first man to collect 30 homers and 30 stolen bases in the same season, a feat not equaled for 34 years. Despite a late start (he wasn't a regular in the majors until he was 30 years old), Williams slugged 196 homers and batted .319, while leading the American League in slugging, total bases, homers, RBI, and extra-base hits at various times in his career. An aggressive player with few friends outside his own team, Williams earned the distinction of being Ty Cobb's most hated opponent.

He was in the mix over the last few rounds with Kiki, Keeler and Medwick. Some great old players. Burkett was also a fav of mine in the PC game... but Kiki's name is just too damn good.

Im glad that I took four pitchers. Still some decent guys going, but certainly not on par with those of a couple rounds back.

I do recall La Verne having a good ball program. It was very close to my college (Pomona College, in Claremont Cali)
