I think this draft may be slowly dying in interest.Either that or people are getting in trouble for having a completely unproductive week. :excited:

I told ya'll got unexpectadly called out of town. I was flying back home at 11 eastern. Here now and I'll make my pick.edited to add 11 eastern is sleep and or sex time for some of us as well. I'm not on here 24 hrs. a day. You can usually count on me to be in from roughly 9 to 6 eastern and to pm if I'm close. Yesterday being a rare exception.

WB UCONN. I know it is not like you to bail... did you make that pick from the airport? I thought you passed out next to the computer with your next pick on your lips. (better than having your avatar on those lips  )I motion to go to a 4 hour max next week since we will be 10+ rounds in. We either get a list to Cap or someone or things move along. Anyone with me? I dont want this to lose interest, its been way too fun.

There's still 23 hours and 55 minutes a day to make your pick.

Supposed to snow 6" here today.     :hot:
funk, where you at? we are supposed to get some snow over the weekend here in NY
Minneapolis.
and you are #####ing about 6 in of snow!
Good point but this has been an amazingly mild winter. Could still see the tips of grass in the front yard until today.
I am hoping to see tips of grass over the weekend myself, snow or not.

OK I need a solid lefty off the bench, already have one OF on my bench so I was looking at corner infielders, suprisingly a lot of good ones still out there. Went with a guy who can dazzle with both the Glove and at the dish so. . .

With pick #4 in round 14 the Curse Reversing Idiots select:

Don Mattingly - 1B

MVP 1985

Top Five MVP 4 times

Six time all star

Nine time Gold Glove recipiant

Excellent pick. I have NO room for him, but Mattingly and Hernandez were my two aces in the hole since I assumed I would not go 1B for a long while.editted to add: a true hall of famer, but for 1/2 the time necessary.

Hopefully funk goes quick so i can post my selection, and the make the 11 am cuttoff for my same day dry cleanin.

14.05 - **** "The Monster" Radatz - Closer

Might be a little early for him but I really wanted an old school closer and Radatz is my favorite. Can't let anyone go by in this league so I'm taking him now.

Height of his career was in Boston from 1962 - 1966 during which he saved at least 20 games a year. Possessed a nasty fastball striking 745 batters in 693 career innings.

2 time all star

Top 10 MVP twice.

Top 10 Wins twice.

Top 10 Strikeouts once.

81st all time with 122 saves.

More on **** Radatz.

Nice. I have been debating this pick for 4 freakin rounds now...

One of the all time great top of the order outfielders, who will give my lineup GREAT flexibility. Full write up coming, but I think he had two batting titles to go with four OBP crowns and four walks leads. Even led the league in steals and was in the top 5 often... though it is his on base and DEFENSE I am going for.

Did I mention he was a legendary defensive player?

OF - Richie Ashburn - L hitter (R thrower)

14.07 - Randy Myers - RP

4-Time All-Star and 2-Time Reliever of the Year (1993,1997)

1990 NLCS MVP

347 Saves (6th All-Time)

Looking for a dominant back-end of my staff and Myers as a lefty matches up nice with the righty Quisenberry.

Thought about waiting, but closers are getting thin. Getting the number six guy all time in saves is nice.

Radatz is even better than a closer. He got scads of those long 3-inning saves....

Did anyone else here ever play the arcade game Vs. RBI Baseball in the late 80s? Not the older Vs. Baseball -- the game I'm referring to came out in late 87-early 88 and featured real all-time players from 10 MLB teams.

Great Pick, he was on my closer short list, I thought I could get him later. Astute group we have here, no one is slipping far at all.

Richie "Whitey" Ashburn aka Put Put - CF/RF (with his range might play the deep left at Ebbets)

Lefty Hitter / Righty Thrower

'48-'62 (which I think completes my era's from 1899-present)

Richie Ashburn will be a very important cog in my lineup. He can hit in the 1, 2 or 8 slot a will be a pivotal part of my outfield rotation. His legendary defensive range and arm will provide one of the best defensive outfields in the game, with Griff in center, and Richie at one corner, Kiki Cuyler at the other (in my speed/D lineup).

"Regarded by many as the finest defensive fielder this side of Tris Speaker, Richie Ashburn was a gritty competitor who threw out the Dodgers' Cal Abrams at home plate in the final game of the 1950 season to help the Phillies win the pennant. He twice won the batting title and was an All-Star in his final season, as a member of the 1962 Mets. After his playing career he was a popular announcer for the Phillies, becoming a legend to a new generation of fans. " (baseball page)

.308 career Average (Had the 2nd highest average of the 1950's)

.396 OBP

1198 Walks

GG's would have been his almost every year

2x Top Ten MVP

2x Batting Champ (5 times over .330!)

4 Times OBP Crown (3 Times over .440!)

Triples Crown and 5 Time top 5

SB Crown, 6 Time top 5, 12 Time Top 10

5 Time Top 5 Sac Hits (can also hit second, and move N. Fox to 8 slot)

NEVER had more than 50ks in a season

Most MLB Hits during the 50's

Hall Of Fame and First ever Batter for the Mets

Yeah me too. Perfect defensive replacement OF. He can hit and run the bases as well.

I'll take:

14.09 RP Tom Henke

9.8 K/9 IP for his career. Over 30 saves six times. ERA under 3.00 for seven straight seasons (1987-93).

Speed / Defense Lineup options:1 Ashburn (RF-L) 2 Kiki Cuyler (LF - R)3 Arod (SS-R)4 Mize (1B-L) (will have a lot of guys on base)5 Schmidt (3B-R)6 Griffey (CF-L)7 Hartnett (C-R)8. Fox (2B-L)1 Ashburn (RF-L) 2 Kiki Cuyler (LF - R)3 Griffey (CF-L) 4 Arod (SS-R) 5 Mize (1B-L) (will have a lot of guys on base, again)6 Schmidt (3B-R)7 Hartnett (C-R)8. Fox (2B-L)Shoot, I could even slide everyone down and have Cuyler bat third, which was his favorite place in the lineup... small ball w/ speed at the top, then unreal power/average/speed with Griff, A Rod and Schmidt and the overall best hitter of them all, Mize in the middle somewhere.

This is the guy I had all typed in, before switching to Myers. Was kinda hoping he might come back around. I really love his ERA and WHIP numbers. Very underrated closer IMO.

OF Hack Wilson

Holder of the single-season RBI record.

4-time HR Champ.

Hall of Famer.

SOD.
While not the SOD (you shouldnt be allowed to declare a self SOD anyways), a very solid pick. I had given him a lot of thought, but Sam Crawford won out, and I didnt need another slugger here.

holy ####.he has to be gone.

Nope, he is available and has been. when you look more closely, he had that one AMAZING year, and two very good years, but when all is said and done, had only 3, 30+ homer seasons. Many think he is a marginal HoF'er that got in because of his 56 homers and 190+ RBIs in a season.

Wilson's a great pick. He's been hovering on my list for awhile now but it's not like there's been a shortage of good, power hitting, right handed OF's in this draft. Good selection but he fits in with about 20 other players. The part that makes him cool is the RBI record.
